TUF Gaming M4 Air: Ultralight and water-resistant mouse from ASUS

ASUS has introduced an exciting new mouse under its gaming division with the TUF Gaming M4 Air. It weighs a mere 47 grams and offers a water-repellent IPX6 protective coating, which is supposed to make the gaming mouse particularly durable.

The TUF Gaming M4 Air in detail

Weighing in at just 47 grams, the TUF Gaming M4 Air lives up to its name. The heart marks a specially tuned optical sensor (type PAW3335), which comes to a resolution of 16,000 dpi and is adjustable in four levels. In addition, the M4 Air offers a maximum speed of 400 IPS, an acceleration of up to 40 G and a polling rate of 1,000 Hz, which should be extremely palatable to most gamers.

The low weight is realized by the so-called “air-shell design”, where the surface consists of a hollowed pyramid-shaped frame. ASUS thus promises a new haptic experience where the hand experiences maximum control while increasing comfort. This is also said to reduce fatigue. To what extent the design offers an advantage over other commercially available honeycomb patterns, however, remains to be seen in a detailed test.

More freedom of movement

The TUF Gaming M4 Air was designed with weight reduction and freedom of movement in mind. The TUF Gaming Paracord is made of soft and slightly flexible fibers to minimize snagging. Tangling, knotting or tangling of the cable and the associated sluggish mouse movements are said to be a thing of the past.

The mouse feet made of 100% PTFE are also supposed to provide excellent gliding properties on all surfaces. The special plastic and the positioning of the feet ensure smooth control, as well as resistance-free operation.

The TUF Gaming M4 Air features six tactile and programmable buttons that allow you to customize the control to any gaming style. 3 built-in memory profiles also allow for customization to suit personal preferences.

The left and right buttons are separated from the top cover, resulting in reduced actuation force and travel for faster clicks. A DPI switch lets you adjust sensitivity on the fly, while two strategically placed buttons on the left side and a clickable scroll wheel provide additional control options. Overall, the M4 Air comes in at dimensions of 126 x 63.5 x 39.6 mm and is ambidextrous.

Water-repellent and antibacterial

Another special feature: the special outer shell of the TUF Gaming M4 Air features an IPX6 water-repellent protective coating to protect it from accidental spills and sweaty palms. To keep the TUF Gaming M4 Air hygienic, the surfaces and side buttons are protected by the new ASUS Antibacterial Guard Ionic Silver treatment.

Positively charged silver ions (Ag+) combine with the cell walls of negatively charged microbes and bacteria, disrupting their internal functions and preventing further growth. According to an ISO 22196 test from Taiwan’s SGS testing center, Antibacterial Guard inhibits the growth of bacteria by more than 99 percent over a 24-hour period.

Price and Availability

The TUF Gaming M4 Air is available in stores now. The manufacturer’s MSRP is 54.90 euros.
