Twitter: Elon Musk sends fighting message to advertisers

The round-robin at Twitter continues. After the newly appointed CEO Elon Musk has already earned a bad reputation among the staff, it now continues with the advertising customers. Thus, the controversial tech billionaire is apparently putting even well-known customers of Twitter under massive pressure.

Threat of public reputation damage

A few days ago, what many Twitter users and employees have feared for weeks came to pass. Elon Musk is the new chief of the short messaging service. After an extensive wave of layoffs has already rolled in over the workforce, the service’s advertisers are now apparently facing bad times as well. At least those who want to terminate their cooperation in view of the new Twitter boss. Thus, Elon Musk threatens these with a “thermonuclear name & shame” if they will not row back from their stance. The Tesla CEO is referring to the fact that in the wake of the change of power at the social network, many big-name advertisers such as VW immediately ended their ad placements.

Future of Twitter uncertain

Musk is apparently very angry about the actions of the previous advertising partners, who are now “going rogue”. Otherwise, the rapid-fire, which he fired with his comprehensive threat can not be explained. The new Twitter boss is not only threatened with the departure of wealthy customers. On top of that, it is more than questionable who would want to advertise on a platform that threatens such consequences as damage to reputation. What is certain is that the Tesla boss is cutting into his own flesh with such an approach and will make the short message service far less profitable even in the short term. After all, advertising partners are Twitter’s most important source of income.

The fact that Musk wants to pay for the verification of an account in an expensive subscription model with “Twitter Blue” will not change anything. Sometimes you get the feeling that Elon Musk himself has realized that the purchase of the short message service was a big mistake. However, in view of the impending high penalties, the step was inevitable for him. Now he seems to be driving the social network slowly but surely to the wall. Whether he is doing this intentionally due to frustration or is pursuing an unknown master plan to bring Twitter back to the top is anyone’s guess.
