Up to 8 percent more gaming FPS: Colorful introduces X3D AI Turbo for Ryzen X3D

AMD is once again raising the bar for gaming performance with its new Ryzen X3D processors – and motherboard manufacturers are responding with their own optimization functions. Colorful has now announced the so-called X3D AI Turbo, which was specially developed for Ryzen X3D CPUs. According to the manufacturer, noticeable performance gains can be achieved without manual tweaking in the BIOS. Initial internal measurements indicate higher frame rates and more stable frametimes, although the function is initially only available on selected mainboards.

X3D AI Turbo: Automatic optimization for Ryzen X3D

With the X3D AI Turbo, Colorful is pursuing a similar approach to other motherboard manufacturers in the AM5 ecosystem. The function is integrated directly into the BIOS and is designed to automatically select the optimum performance setup for Ryzen X3D processors using predefined, AI-supported profiles. In the background, customized Precision Boost Overdrive parameters and targeted clock and voltage adjustments are used, which are specially tailored to the thermal and electrical properties of X3D CPUs.

The aim is to save users tedious manual fine-tuning. After activating the mode, the mainboard analyzes the quality of the respective processor and automatically selects a suitable profile. This is intended to enable higher boost clocks under gaming load without jeopardizing stability or efficiency. The focus is clearly on games, where the large 3D-V cache structure of the X3D models already offers advantages and additional optimizations can be particularly effective.

X3D AI Turbo currently only supports the Ryzen 7 9800X3D and the newer Ryzen 7 9850X3D. In contrast to similar solutions from other manufacturers, the function is therefore clearly limited to X3D CPUs. It is used entirely via the BIOS; no additional software is required under the operating system.

Measured values, compatibility and realistic classification

In its own tests, Colorful speaks of up to 8.3 percent higher average frame rates and an increase in 1% lows of around 16 percent. Measurements were taken with a Ryzen 7 9850X3D in combination with a GeForce RTX 5070 Ti in the game Valorant, among others. The improved 1% lows are particularly relevant, as they have a direct impact on the perceived smoothness of the game and reduced stuttering.

However, as with all manufacturer benchmarks, the actual performance gains are likely to depend heavily on the game in question, the GPU, the drivers and the remaining system settings. In GPU-limited scenarios, the effect is naturally less pronounced, while CPU-heavy e-sports titles could benefit more. In addition, X3D AI Turbo is currently only available on two motherboards – the CVN B850M ARK Frozen and the CVN X870E ARK Frozen. An expansion to other models has not yet been confirmed.

One positive aspect is that Colorful does not require any aggressive manual intervention with this feature, but instead relies on predefined profiles. This reduces the risk of misconfigurations, but is no substitute for individual fine-tuning for enthusiasts who want to control every percent of performance themselves.

Conclusion

With X3D AI Turbo, Colorful provides a convenient way to get additional gaming performance out of Ryzen X3D processors without much effort. The promised gains of around 8 percent on average and significantly better 1% lows sound plausible, but should be considered realistically. The function is currently limited to a few motherboards and CPUs, but could become an interesting option for X3D systems with broader support. Prices for compatible mainboards vary depending on the model, the function itself is part of the BIOS and does not incur any additional costs.
