About a year after the ultra-light Urtopia Carbon One, the manufacturer launches its second e-bike, whose features and design language are no less impressive. The new Urtopia Chord aims to be a fusion of art and technology and is said to be inspired by a piano.
The Urtopia Chord in detail
The first-generation product from the manufacturer Urtopia, namely the Carbon One, was able to excite us almost completely in the course of our test. Now the company is following suit and presenting its second, no less impressive e-bike, the Urtopia Chord.
The Chord is available in either white or black, and with a high step-in as well as a flatter, lighter step-in as the Urtopia Chord X. The normal model is aimed more at the more advanced rider. The normal model is aimed more at sizes from 170 cm to 195 cm, while the Chord X is suitable for 160 cm to 185 cm.
Just like the first model, the second e-bike is also based on a reduced, minimalist design and a refined appearance. The result is a modern city e-bike whose 325.8 Wh battery is attached to the down tube, for example, and can be easily removed. A range of up to 120 kilometers is realized in Eco mode. In the fastest mode, the Sport mode, up to 50 kilometers are still possible with maximum pedal assistance.
The battery itself weighs 2.22 kilograms and features a fast-charge mode, thanks to which it can be fully charged in just three hours. The Urtopia Chord weighs a total of 21 kilograms and relies on a sturdy 6061 aluminum frame.
It is also equipped with a torque sensor, 8-speed gears from Shimano and hydraulic disc brakes from Tektro. The permissible total weight is 130 kilograms.
It is driven, EU-koform, by a 250-watt rear-wheel motor, which provides a torque of 45 Newton meters and allows pedal assistance up to a maximum of 25 km/h.
Smart features
One of the Urtopia Chord’s special features is its smart dot-matrix LED display, which is centrally mounted in the handlebars. It features a fingerprint sensor that can be used to unlock the e-bike and only then move it.
In addition, the display has a built-in navigation device that allows navigation entirely without the aid of a smartphone. Music playback and control via Bluetooth is also possible directly via the display. OTA updates can also be performed over here, while the Urtopia Chord can be controlled via voice. The manufacturer also installs a GPS anti-theft device. The e-bike also has an integrated eSIM module.
Mudguards and a stand are also preinstalled ex works or included in the scope of delivery. At the front, the manufacturer mounts a 20 lux bright headlight, which is StVZO compliant and brightly illuminates the path in front of you.
Another safety feature goes by the name of ARES (Advanced Rear Early-indication System), which combines a bright red taillight with a pair of projection lights that can virtually act as turn signals to indicate direction changes. Additional settings are available via the free Urtopia app, available for download on iOS and Android.
