Valve remains tight-lipped about the price and release date of the Steam Frame. Behind the scenes, however, the company appears to be continuing its preparations for the VR headset’s launch: A dedicated compatibility category for the device has now appeared in the Steam Store.
New “Great on Steam Frame” Category in the Steam Store
Valve has added the “Great on Steam Frame” category to the Steam Store. It is intended to highlight games that are compatible with the upcoming VR headset—following the same principle already used for the compatibility labels for Steam Deck and Steam Machine.
So far, the new category contains only four entries: Portal 2, Into the Black, Aperture Hand Lab, and The Lab. The list is still manageable, but it shows that Valve is actively preparing the store for the hardware’s launch.
Further Signs of an Imminent Launch
The new category isn’t the only clue to emerge in recent weeks. Valve had already begun assigning official compatibility ratings for the Steam Deck to individual games, and now lists the accompanying wireless adapter as “released” behind the scenes. Taken together, these details suggest that Valve is increasingly finalizing the software ecosystem surrounding the headset, even though an official announcement date has yet to be set.
The Steam Frame is part of a larger hardware push by Valve, which includes not only the VR headset but also the Steam Machine and a redesigned Steam Controller. While the Steam Machine has been delayed several times recently, it remains unclear exactly when shipments of the Steam Frame will begin.
