vivo X Fold+: New high-end foldable launches in China

The manufacturer has unveiled an exciting new foldable smartphone, the vivo X Fold+, which is the quasi-successor to the X Fold from April 2022. The model, which is exclusively available for the Chinese market, leans visually on the aluminum design of its predecessor. New features include a security chip, Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, and battery and camera improvements.

Unlike the X Fold, the new vivo X Fold+ relies on the improved Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC, which not only offers a bit more power, but is also much more efficient. It is manufactured in the 4 nm process and is significantly less susceptible to overheating.

At the same time, it also ensures better battery runtimes in current smartphones due to the more efficient design. However, Vivo did not stop there and also increased the battery capacity of its foldable.

The battery now has a capacity of 4,730 mAh without changing the size and weight of the device. The X Fold had a capacity of 4,600 mAh at that time. According to vivo lab tests, this improves the overall battery runtime by over 20 percent. The X Fold+ charges even faster compared to its predecessor, as it features the wired 80W and wireless 50W vivo FlashCharge.

It allows to charge the battery from 1 to 70 percent battery capacity in just 18 minutes wired, a full battery charge is possible in just 35 minutes. Wirelessly, the smartphone can be fully charged in 53 minutes thanks to vivo FlashCharge technology.

Especially practical: The scope of delivery also includes a gallium nitride (GaN) charger with two USB-C ports. This allows two devices to be charged simultaneously and in parallel.

Improved 120 Hz display

The Vivo X Fold+ also features an improved foldable display: both the outer and inner displays now have a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The inner, unfolded 8-inch screen now has an even higher resolution of 2,160 x 1,916 pixels, topping the X Fold’s Full HD+ resolution.

The large inner display also provides an improved split-screen view: Up to four apps are possible at the same time with two windows on the split screen. Another new feature is the so-called Speaker Mode for PowerPoint presentations. Here, the lower part of the screen shows the notes, the upper part the presentation.

The foldable smartphone is unlocked via a 3D ultrasonic fingerprint sensor on both the inner and outer display. Like its predecessor, the design of the X Fold+ is characterized by square and round shapes. In addition to the blue and gray colors, the X Fold+ is available in a striking red.

Improved Zeiss cameras

Once again, the cameras on the X Fold+ have been developed in conjunction with Zeiss and build on the expertise of the flagship camera smartphone Vivo X80 Pro – which, unlike the Foldables, is also available in stores. The larger lens, which features the signature ZEISS T* coating, reduces glare and improves the visible light transition. This ensures even higher image quality and even more accurate reproduction of colors.

“The model features a full-focal length quad camera including a periscope camera that offers 5x optical zoom, 60x digital zoom and optical image stabilization,” the manufacturer said in the press release, though it did not provide specific details.

Vivo X Fold+ price and availability

The foldable smartphone Vivo X Fold+ is currently intended exclusively for the Chinese market and is unlikely to appear in Europe. The manufacturer did not name a price. The quasi-predecessor X Fold was offered for 8,999 yuan, which is equivalent to about 1,295 euros.
