Vivo X51: Big player from China wants to shake up German smartphone market

Manufacturer Vivo from the Far East will not be known to everyone. Not yet. Like Xiaomi, the Chinese technology company now wants to conquer the European market. The Vivo X51 is to be the first. This is to conquer the hearts of consumers with 5G and an extraordinary gimbal camera.

Competitive market

You can slowly lose track of the German smartphone market. This is not by chance. After all, there are more and more manufacturers that are active in this highly competitive market. Vivo is a new player who now wants to get into the ring. Even though the company is unknown to many of us, it is by no means a small company. For example, Vivo was able to sell a proud figure of 110 million units in the last fiscal year. The Chinese are now celebrating their premiere on the German smartphone market with the X51.

A very special camera

In order to attract attention at all, you need a unique selling proposition. With the Vivo X51, this should clearly be the camera. It has a very special stabilizer. This is more or less a miniature version of a gimbal. Accordingly, it should be able to work much more effectively than a classic optical stabilizer as we know it from most other devices. As a result, the X51 should be able to record very smooth moving images. Vivo himself emphasizes that the special camera should be able to score especially under bad lighting conditions. The reliable stabilizer should not only be able to record smooth videos, but also wobble-free photos. The other figures of the quadruple camera also look convincing. The main camera of the Vivo X51 has a 48 megapixel sensor. The quadruple camera is further composed of a portrait camera, an ultra-wide angle and a fivefold telephoto lens. Of course, the Chinese smartphone also offers a front camera. This has 32 megapixels to offer.

Performance of the upper middle class

Although the Vivo X51 comes in a flagship guise, the interior is not quite “state of the art”. Features of the X51 include a Snapdragon 765 from Qualcomm. We know this one from the upper middle class. Nevertheless, the processor should be able to cope with most everyday demands with its good performance. You shouldn’t forget that a powerful processor often also takes its toll on the battery life. Accordingly, Vivo probably chose the solid processor for a good reason. In combination with 8 GB RAM and a 256 GB internal memory, the other specs of the inner workings read well.

Vivo is particularly proud of the gimbal camera of its X51.

Vivo announces fat fingers the fight

Anyone who holds a beautiful, brand new smartphone in their hands is quickly annoyed by the first fingerprints on the glass surface. Vivo would like to solve this problem on its X51 by using a frosted glass. This is located on the back of the device. Otherwise, the combination of glass and metal is protected against splash water according to IP53 certification. Overall, the OLED display offers a size of 6.56 inches diagonal. It has a resolution of 2,376 x 1,080 pixels and is slightly curved at the sides. This provides for a nearly borderless design. The X51 is said to offer a refresh rate of 90 Hertz. If you want to save battery power, you can also reduce the refresh rate to 60 Hertz. Speaking of battery. Vivo is donating a battery with a total capacity of 4,315 mAh for the upcoming smartphone. The Smartphone can be charged via USB-C with a capacity of up to 33 watts. The Chinese smartphone is not supposed to offer wireless charging. But there are features like modern 5G and Dual-SIM on board.

Price and availability

Unlike competitor Xiaomi, Vivo obviously does not want to enter the German market with a price hammer. With a UVP of 799 euro the X51 comes even to a flagship price into our counters. Considering the average processor, this pricing policy is somewhat questionable. But for the money one gets also some offered. In addition to the special image stabilizer, Vivo can also score points ex works with matching headphones, a USB-C adapter and a suitable protective cover.
