The vivo X90 Pro is an exciting flagship smartphone that wants to inspire photographers and videographers, not least thanks to the cooperation with Zeiss. The market launch is scheduled for as early as the end of March 2023.
The vivo X90 Pro in detail
The successor to the X80 Pro from last year has a lot to make up for. That’s because the camera smartphone launched in July 2022 at an inflated price and wasn’t even available for several months afterward.
The new vivo X90 Pro is ready to take things up a notch, at least from a technical point of view. The focus is of course once again on the camera system, which was developed together with Zeiss and is supposed to ensure impressive photos.
“The result is a setup of triple main camera with improved light sensitivity, natural color processing and image stabilization,” promises the manufacturer in the announcement.
The highlight of the device is the 50-megapixel main camera, which relies on Sony’s 1-inch IMX989 camera sensor. It also comes in quite fast with an aperture of f/1.75 and combines 3.2 μm pixels in a 4-in-1 configuration, capturing and processing more light per pixel.
Compared to the predecessor, the X90 Pro is said to capture up to 54 percent more light. Add to that a professional-quality portrait camera that comes with a focal length of 50 millimeters and relies on the IMX758 sensor at an aperture of f/1.6.
The third camera in the bunch is a 108-degree wide-angle camera with especially low distortion, which should also allow macro shots with its 12 MP Sony IMX663 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture. The whole thing is optically stabilized with CIPA level 4.
Thanks to the ZEISS T* coating, reflections and lens flares on the lenses are also reduced, which should lead to clearer photos.
What technology does the vivo X90 Pro offer?
The vivo X90 Pro relies on the MediaTek Dimensity 9200 chip, which is supported by the vivo V2 chip. It is said to have achieved 1.26 million points in the AnTuTu benchmark, which is a strong score.
In addition, there are 12 GB of LPDDR5X memory and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 memory. Additionally, the virtual 8 GB vivo Extendend RAM and UFS Deep Defragmentation enable better multi-tasking performance and fast data processing. For effective cooling, the smartphone resorts to a vapor chamber that covers an area of 4,002 mm².
“In addition, an innovative frame design reduces heat transfer from the CPU to the frame, keeping the areas where hands touch the phone when held horizontally up to 2° C cooler during heavy use,” according to vivo.
The display offers a diagonal screen size of 6.78 inches and is made of a new luminescent material that is said to reduce blue light. High-frequency pulse-width modulation is also said to drastically reduce screen flicker at a frequency of 2,160 Hz.
The DCI-P3 color space is covered to a full 100 percent, which means that shot images can also be displayed and edited accurately. This is also where the ZEISS Natural Color 2.0 function comes into play, which is supposed to display colors lifelike.
Charging with 120 watts
The vivo X90 Pro’s 4,870 mAh battery is charged at a rate of 120 watts via cable or even wirelessly at up to 50 watts. In fast charging mode, the smartphone should thus be charged to 50 percent in just eight minutes and ten seconds.
Even in balanced mode, a complete charging process only takes 29 minutes according to the manufacturer.
In terms of design, the smartphone relies on a horizontal band, called Skyline, which builds on the vegan leather covering of the back. Corning Gorilla Glass makes the X90 Pro particularly robust, while the display is additionally protected by the latest SCHOTT Xensation Up protective glass.
Price and Availability
The vivo X90 Pro is scheduled to be available in Germany at the end of March 2023. The manufacturer has not yet named prices, but plans to reveal them shortly.
