Vodafone Giga 5G+ with more speed thanks to frequency bundling

Vodafone’s 5G network has been growing steadily since its launch around three years ago. Today, at the Hannover Messe, the network operator gave an update on the status of network expansion. And also talked about Vodafone Giga 5G+. The 5G standalone variant is available at more locations and will be even faster thanks to a pooling of frequencies.

Vodafone Giga 5G+ goes full throttle

The standalone variant Vodafone Giga 5G+ was only launched in this country in March of this year. At the start, the speeds of the first 5G standalone network in Germany initially dropped. However, Vodafone was aware of this.

At the beginning, the standalone 5G network, which does not operate as an add-on to the LTE network, was able to achieve data rates of around 700 Mbit/s – significantly less than the 1 Gbit/s possible in combination with the LTE bands.

However, as they have now announced at the Hannover Messe, they are taking advantage of the bundling of different 5G frequency bands to achieve an increase in speed. At a total of 400 5G+ locations, 1,000 Mbit per second will be achieved in the Vodafone network with immediate effect.

5G+ network with particularly low latency

After all, around 10 million people of the total 50 million users on Vodafone’s 5G network are already using Giga 5G+. And thus also the additional advantage of lower latencies in the Vodafone Giga 5G+, which are just 10 milliseconds in the standalone network.

In addition, the standalone network is particularly energy-efficient, as the network operator announced in March: “By dialing directly into the Giga 5G+ network, you consume up to 20 percent less power when surfing with your smartphone.” Another advantage: the Giga 5G+ infrastructure transmits at full 100 percent with renewable energies.

Provided you have the right smartphone

In order to benefit from the speeds in Vodafone Giga 5G+ you need, in addition to the tariff, also a corresponding smartphone that meets the technical requirements in the first place.

Here, too, Vodafone has a few models to choose from. Of the total of 60 5G-capable devices, 25 smartphones already support the 5G+ standard, according to the network operator. These include, for example, the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE, iPhone 13 (Pro/Mini/Pro Max), Xiaomi 12 (Pro) or the Oppo Find X5 (Lite/Pro).

Vodafone Giga 5G+ is easily activated via the MyVodafone app with a single click on the corresponding button. Wherever Giga 5G+ is available, the device is registered automatically.
