VW ID.3 facelift comes with revised interior

Volkswagen has certainly succeeded in entering the electric car market. After all, the carmaker celebrated a record number of registrations last year with its VW ID.3. Almost two and a half years after the release of the successful electric car, the manufacturer is now presenting the facelift. It will not only offer a more refined interior. On top of that, the Wolfsburg-based company wants to have tweaked the software.

At first glance, no changes

The term facelift actually suggests a visual change. If you take a look at the revised VW ID.3, however, it looks very familiar. This is not surprising. After all, very little has changed on the body. For example, the shapes are almost identical to those of the electric car first presented at the 2019 International Motor Show. Only the bumpers have been improved. These are now said to offer an improved cW value of 0.263. Otherwise, only the colors have changed in some places. For example, the lettering at the rear is now white. Dark Olive Green is a new color in the portfolio of possible paint finishes.

The technical specifications of the electric car, which has now been available for two and a half years, are also virtually unchanged. That means you once again have a choice of two different batteries in the VW ID.3. You can choose between a 58 kWh or a 77 kWh battery. Within 35 minutes, you should be able to charge the small battery from 5 to 80 percent. The larger one, on the other hand, is supposed to reach the magic mark of 80 percent after just under 30 minutes. Provided you connect it to a charging station with 170 kW power. The performance is again identical in both versions. The e-motor shines with 150 kW. VW gives a range of 426 km for the small battery and 546 km for the large one.

VW ID.3 facelift with high-end interior

Experts were sure that the interior of the previous VW ID.3 was not adequate for the price called. For this reason, Volkswagen has obviously put its main focus on the interior in its facelift. And this is noticeable at first glance. For example, the door panels are no longer made of cheap hard plastic. Instead, the materials are now supposed to feel much softer and thus of a higher quality. VW has also decided against using leather for the steering wheel. In this way, the Wolfsburg-based company wants to convey the lasting impression that an electric car should offer, if only for marketing reasons.

Fine-tuning also seems to have been given to the software. For example, it should now finally allow over-the-air updates (OTA), which is now the case with just about every reasonably modern car. On top of that, VW promises more power, which should primarily be seen in a smoother performance. By the way, an e-route planner is also supposed to be included in the basic equipment. This is supposed to be able to automatically calculate the optimal charging stops. This is particularly advantageous for longer journeys. Furthermore, the VW ID.3 now also wants to offer Plug & Charge at selected charging stations. We know this feature, among other things, also from the group brother Skoda Enyaq.

Price does not correspond to a “Volkswagen”

Already with the VW ID.3 in its original version, the outcry was loud about the high price. It is all the more shocking that the group now wants to raise the price of its compact electric runabout yet again. In view of the marginal improvements, the base price of a hefty 43,995 Euros is by no means justified. You have to ask yourself whether this car really deserves the name Volkswagen. The Wolfsburg company really has to be careful that the competition, some of which offer much lower prices, doesn’t gallop away. You can find more info on the vehicle at the official website of VW.
