VW ID.Buzz: Price of the e-bus apparently leaked

The cat is out of the bag. Although Volkswagen wanted to keep the starting price of its ID.Buzz secret until the official pre-order period, it has now been revealed. But it wasn’t the carmaker itself that was to blame. Instead, a responsible authority has apparently let the cat out of the bag.

No affordable family bus

VW will launch its long-awaited ID.Buzz at a starting price of 65,000 euros. If you subtract the €7,500 innovation premium, you ultimately end up with around €57,500. The attractive purchase premium is also the reason why the price secret of the ID.Buzz was revealed. After all, the responsible authority Bafa has already included the all-electric VW bus in its list of vehicles eligible to receive the purchase premium for e-cars. According to the list, the ID.Buzz Cargo will go cheaper. The customized VW bus for tradesmen is expected to land at an eventual price of just under €47,000 after deducting the innovation premium.

It is questionable whether VW will take a similar approach with its upcoming ID.Buzz as it did with the successful ID.3 and ID.4 models, which received a special edition at launch. We assume that VW will also use a special edition for its ID.Buzz, which fans have been longing for, but it is still unclear whether this will also match the version from the Bafa list. However, earlier information indicates that a standard version of the electric family bus could also be launched at a lower price after a few weeks. After all, an entry-level price starting at 55,000 euros was always communicated under the table.

In the fall, the first ID.Buzzes will leave the delivery line

Those who are already longing for their personal VW bus with electric drive probably won’t have to wait too much longer. In March, for example, it was announced that the first models of the e-bus would go on sale as early as fall 2022. The specifications of the so-called Pro version sound promising and whet the appetite for a test drive. The powerful ID.Buzz is said to have an impressive torque of 310 Nm. In view of a 150 kW electric drive on the rear axle, this is not surprising. On top of that, VW relies on a high battery capacity of 82 kWh. We are curious whether the price leak will come true when the pre-order period starts.
