VW ID. Buzz probably comes at an RRP of 60,000 euros

Electric cars are becoming increasingly popular. So it’s hardly surprising that prices are slowly but surely rising as well. The latest example is the long-awaited VW ID. Buzz. The all-electric VW bus is to be launched at a much higher MSRP than originally expected.

Nearly 60,000 euros for the e-bus

Of course, no one expected the VW Bus with electric motor to launch at a bargain price. After all, it is not only the electric motor that makes the vehicle attractive. The size is also a huge selling point in view of the current run on vans. However, the e-bulli, which will be launched in September, is likely to break many family budgets at around 60,000 euros. And here, according to information from Automobilwoche, we are only talking about the entry-level price. With all the panic, of course, one must not forget that there is still the attractive “innovation premium” in this country. This then pushes the entry price to just under 50,000 euros.

Like a VW bus, only electric

Quite obviously, VW does not want to change the customer base with its ID. Buzz by no means change. In addition to its use as a conventional commercial vehicle, the e-bus is namely also intended to serve as a genuine “family carriage” and “camping companion”. The so-called “California” version of the VW bus is particularly popular. It offers just about everything you need for a camping trip. So it’s no surprise that the ID. Buzz is to be launched in a special California version. According to VW, however, this will not be the case until 2025.

Conversion to electric drive also possible

The basis of the VW ID. Buzz is the so-called MEB platform. This is also used in VW’s ID.4. But it is not only the platform that the two vehicles share. The e-bus and Volkswagen’s e-SUV are also expected to share the same engine. In addition to an output of 152 kilowatts, the battery is said to offer 77 kilowatt hours. Incidentally, anyone who fancies driving a VW bus with an electric drive won’t have to wait for the ID. Buzz. You can also have your conventional VW Bus converted into a fully electric vehicle. With conversion costs of 65,000 euros, however, you are probably better off buying a new vehicle from VW.
