WhatsApp can now be used with multiple smartphones

WhatsApp regularly provides its users with a new firmware update. The changes made by the brand-new software often have to be searched for with a magnifying glass. But that is not the case with the latest update. The popular messenger has quietly introduced the option of linking an account with multiple smartphones. However, owners of an iPhone are left out of the new feature.

WhatsApp offers new “linked devices” feature

As part of the latest update for WhatsApp, the new feature was introduced to link several Android phones with just one account. With this, the messenger from tech company Meta turns its back on its “one smartphone policy”. The surprising thing about the new feature is the fact that the company has not informed its users about it at all. Neither a blog post, nor an announcement via other social media channels has taken place. Not even in the update notes of the Google Play Store can be seen that the new feature has found its way into Messenger.

Apple stays out

Thus, there is another way to be able to use a WhatsApp account with multiple devices at once. After all, so far you could already use WhatsApp Web or WhatsApp Desktop to use the messenger in parallel with the smartphone also on PC and notebook. Multiple smartphones, on the other hand, were not possible. If you want to use the new feature, you should first download the most recent version of WhatsApp on your device. If it’s the device that doesn’t have WhatsApp yet, don’t enter your phone number on the setup home page right away. Instead, tap on the three dots in the upper right half of the screen. There you then select “Link device”.

Now, the app will give you a QR code that you should scan with your main smartphone that has the active WhatsApp account on it. For this, you tap on the three dots in the top corner here as well. There you select “Linked devices”. Now tap on “Link device” and the camera of your primary smartphone will scan the QR code. Now the synchronization of data begins, so that you are also up to date on your secondary device. To check which devices are linked to your account, you can take a look at the list of connected devices on a primary device. On the other hand, if you call an iPhone your own, you’re looking at nothing this time. After all, the multi-smartphone feature is only available for Android users for now.
