WhatsApp Communities: Messenger app gets new group feature

WhatsApp has unveiled a new feature for its Messenger app, which starts now. WhatsApp Communities were introduced earlier this year and can be used immediately. This allows users to organize their own groups – for example, for companies, apartment buildings, schools and much more.

WhatsApp is launching its Messenger with an exciting new groups feature. WhatsApp Communities offer more ways to organize compared to group chats, and multiple groups can be created within a community.

The new feature has been officially unveiled in a blog post. “Communities like neighborhoods, parents at a school and businesses can now bring multiple groups together in one place to organize group conversations on WhatsApp,” WhatsApp said.

The Communities will start immediately worldwide and should be available to every user over the next few months. For this, there will be a new tab within the chats, with which you can create a community or add existing groups.

Organization by admins

Furthermore, WhatsApp communities will be organized by administrators, who can, for example, send important information to all members and groups within a community.

In companies, for example, it should be possible to create different groups within a community for the various departments, which can all be provided with new information at the same time via important messages from the admins. Existing group chats can be easily added to a new community.

WhatsApp communities get their own tab within the app, you can find this at the top of the screen on Android and at the bottom on iOS. Within the tab, all the communities you belong to are displayed along with the corresponding groups.

New features for polls and more

In addition to the communities, WhatsApp spends his Messenger app many other features. Thus, it is henceforth possible to create polls within chats. In addition, video calls can be made with up to 32 people, while groups can now have up to 1,024 members.

The new features can be used in any group, just like the emoji reactions, the sharing of larger files and the admin delete option – but are mainly aimed at the new communities.
