You can now make calls on WhatsApp Web directly in your browser: voice and video calls—both one-on-one and in groups—work without a desktop app and without any additional installation. Meta introduced this feature on July 28, 2026, along with four other new calling features. The rollout is happening gradually, so you may need to be patient depending on your region.
Making Calls on WhatsApp Web: Calls in the Browser Without an App
Until now, this was only possible via the mobile apps or the desktop version. Now, all you need is a compatible browser to make or answer calls—no downloads, no setup required. This is especially handy on a university computer, a work laptop without installation privileges, or for anyone who prefers to stay in the browser anyway. Linux users benefit as well.
When making calls on the web, you have access to the same features as on your other devices: screen sharing, reactions, and a dedicated “Calls” tab with a complete call history and favorites. Calls are end-to-end encrypted, have no time limit, and are free—so you get the same private experience you’re used to with WhatsApp.
Call handoff, waiting room, and HD video: additional features
In addition to web calls, the update brings four more improvements. These apply to all platforms and are also rolling out gradually:
