Previously, only four people could participate in a video call over WhatsApp at the same time. As wabetainfo.com reports, this will be expanded soon.
Notes on the expansion can be found in the new WhatsApp Messenger Beta for iOS 2.20.50.23. Here, text modules have already been incorporated that speak for a higher limit. However, it is not apparent how many people the limit will be raised to. The only thing that is clear is that all participants in the conversation then need the current version of WhatsApp, which introduces this function. It can still take a few weeks before this happens.
It is not known whether WhatsApp has worked on it because of the corona crisis or whether it was on the agenda anyway. However, video conferencing services are currently experiencing a boom and Google has recently increased the limit for Duo to 12 people. WhatsApp will certainly not go any higher, because it has to remain clear.
Update 21.04.2020: The limit in the beta was raised from 4 to 8.
