Windows 11 now available as ISO

The first details about Windows 11 have already leaked to the public a few months ago. Now, the latest version of the popular operating system from Microsoft is officially available as an ISO download for the first time. In particular, this is the “Insider Preview Build 22000.160. What initially sounds extremely promising, shows only marginally new.

First ISO for Windows 11

The ISO now available is the first system image of Microsoft’s new operating system. This does not correspond to the latest build of version 22000.160, but can now be easily installed by ordinary consumers to catch a first glimpse of the new Windows. In particular, the available ISO is build 22000.132. Once installed, it should be possible to update the now dusty build to the new version.

Not much new

Until now, it was possible to download two official beta versions of Windows 11. However, these were special developer versions that were not reserved for the general public. But is there anything new with the ISO that is now available? Not much has changed. Only small changes, such as a fine-tuning of the “Alarm & Clock” application, have been made. We have taken the revisions once from Windows.

Changes and Improvements:

The new Clock app for Windows 11 with Focus Sessions has begun rolling out to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. See this blog post for all the details!
We have been testing the ability to see estimates for how long a restart for updates would take in places like the power menu under Start, in restart notifications, on the Windows Update Settings page and inside the Windows Update icon that shows up at the lower right of Taskbar. We are making a small adjustment for this feature so that it only shows on PCs with SSDs. If your PC has a standard HDD, you will no longer see estimates. We hope to bring estimates back to PCs with HDDs once we iron out a few more bugs.

Fixes:

Taskbar:
We fixed an issue where the “location in use” icon was showing in the Taskbar sometimes even though the usage was blocked by your preferences.

There’s still a lot to come

If you take a look at the release notes from Microsoft, it quickly becomes clear that the software giant still has some work to do. After all, the list of lingering bugs is still relatively long. It is really amazing that Microsoft has only revised small things like the icon display despite the extensive problems. However, one feature that we really like about the up-to-date ISO is the ability to christen one’s system. Here, you already get the feeling that it won’t be too long before Windows 11 launches. We are curious!
