Xiaomi 13 Ultra with Leica camera unveiled

With the Xiaomi 13 Ultra, the manufacturer has officially unveiled its new flagship smartphone for 2023. The highlight is once again the camera system that was developed together with Leica. The main camera relies on a 1-inch sensor, while the ultra-grade WQHD+ display with excellent color accuracy is also supposed to be suitable for editing and the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 ensures a convincing performance.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra in detail

The flagship camera Xiaomi 13 Ultra adds a new top model to the Xiaomi 13 series and aims to rival the vivo X90 Pro in terms of image quality. For this, Xiaomi once again collaborates with Leica.

A compact size, large aperture, high imaging performance, reliability and durability should distinguish the new camera system. The lens uses an ultra-high-order polynomial design that enables design precision in the nanometer range. Combined with the multi-layer coating, glare and ghosting are said to be reduced.

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra is equipped with a quad-camera system with Leica optics lenses covering focal lengths of 12mm (ultra-wide angle), 23mm (wide angle), 75mm (telephoto) and the new 120mm (super telephoto). The in-sensor zoom covers a focal length range of 46mm to 240mm.

The 50-MP main camera with Sony MX989 sensor offers an aperture of f/1.9, while the telephoto and ultra-wide-angle camera, both also with 50 megapixels, also offer an enormous depth of field with an aperture of f/1.9 and are very fast. The 50-MP super-telephoto camera has an aperture of f/3.0 and features optical image stabilization (OIS).

Professional image editing of RAW files should also be possible directly on the smartphone with the Xiaomi 13 Ultra. The main camera supports 50MP RAW, which offers higher image resolution, while also offering multi-frame 14-bit UltraRAW, which takes data directly from the computing pipeline and offers better resolution and dynamic range.

Display, Battery and Technology

Otherwise, the Xiaomi 13 Ultra relies on a 6.73-inch pro-grade WQHD+ display that is said to boast accurate color reproduction and peak brightness of up to 2,600 nits. It resolves at 3,200 x 1,440 pixels and offers an adaptive frame rate between 1 Hz and 120 Hz. Dolby Vision is supported as well as HDR10+, HDR10 and HLG.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 is the latest high-end chip from Qualcomm that combines excellent performance with strong energy efficiency. The smartphone supports up to 16 GB of LPDDR5x RAM and UFS4.0 storage of up to 1 TB as well as FBO (File Based Optimization). The Xiaomi 13 Ultra also features a USB 3.2 Gen 1 interface and can achieve DisplayPort video output of up to 4K 60Hz.

Xiaomi’s in-house developed Loop LiquidCool technology is said to keep the smartphone cool even under continuous load. 4K videos with 60 fps are supposed to be possible without any problems and without frame rate drops.

The battery has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. Charging is possible via USB Type-C with up to 90 watts, and 50 watts are possible wirelessly. Two speakers are installed, which also support Dolby Atmos.

Price and availability

The Xiaomi 13 Ultra will initially be released in China before the end of April and is expected to appear in various international markets, including hopefully Germany, “in the coming months”. Prices and a concrete date will be revealed soon.
