Xiaomi Mi Router AX9000: Affordable tri-band Wi-Fi 6 router with 2.5 Gb LAN presented

The Chinese manufacturer Xiaomi has presented its first tri-band Wi-Fi 6 router, the AX9000. The new model is supposed to be ready for even the most demanding tasks thanks to three WLAN bands, twelve antennas, and a WAN/LAN port with 2.5 Gbit/s.

The technology of the Xiaomi Mi Router AX9000

Those who are considering switching to the new Wi-Fi 6 standard will get their money’s worth with the Xiaomi Mi Router AX9000. It transmits on the 2.4 GHz band, as well as on two 5 GHz bands – one of the channels can also be reserved specifically for gaming.

The new Wi-Fi router with Wi-Fi 6 (IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n/ac/ax) looks like its direct competitor from ASUS, the Asus ROG Rapture GT-AX11000, and has a futuristic design.

Theoretically, speeds of 4.8 Gbit/s and 2.4 Gbit/s (5 GHz) as well as 1,148 Mbit/s (2.4 GHz) are possible. According to the manufacturer, the combined gross transmission speed is 8.35 Gbit/s in the best case.

Xiaomi promotes the router specifically for users who want to connect a variety of devices to it. Those who like to stream 4K videos, surf the web and play games at the same time should benefit from optimized data traffic. A 5 GHz radio channel with 160 MHz channel width can be reserved specifically for gaming use, which is supposed to provide the highest possible speed for pure data transmission.

Power under the hood

The device is powered by a Qualcomm hexa-core processor with up to 2.2 GHz clock rate (4x A53 with 2.2 GHz and 2x 1.7 GHz). To ensure that the device does not get too warm even under maximum load, Xiaomi installs an active cooling solution via fan in the Mi Router AX9000.

The installed working memory is also lush with 1 GB RAM. According to the manufacturer, this should ensure a lag-free and low-latency data exchange at all times. The 270 × 270 × 174 mm (L×W×H) device is equipped with four Gigabit ports and a USB 3.0 port for external data media.

Price and Availability

The Xiaomi Mi Router AX9000 is said to be available exclusively from the in-house online store. The RRP is €249.00. It is not yet clear when the sales launch will take place.
