Xiaomi Pad 5: Cheap iPad clone currently at a bargain price

Xiaomi’s new tablet is here and is a real challenge. The aluminum look and clear edges of the new Xiaomi Pad 5 are clearly based on Apple’s tablet in terms of design. However, Apple does not have to fear that the buyers of its popular iPad will run away. Xiaomi rather creates a reference in the field of all Android tablets. Samsung must therefore dress warmly.

The display measures 11 inches

In terms of display size, Xiaomi opts for the current standard in the tablet market segment with 11 inches. However, anything but standard is the refresh rate of a whopping 120 Hz.

This should ensure that any moving images flicker wonderfully smoothly across the display. Xiaomi installs four speakers in its tablet so that the HDR standard Dolby Vision is not the only way to enjoy the moving screen content. The quad stereo speaker even gets a certification as a Dolby Atmos capable sound device.

Ordinary performance under the hood

To ensure that the Pad 5 is up to all challenges, Xiaomi installs reliable processor power in the form of the Snapdragon 860. The chip, which comes from Qualcomm, was manufactured using the 7 nm process and manages to reach a clock speed of 2.96 GHz.

While you rarely snap a photo with your tablet, Xiaomi is going for good camera performance despite that. On the back, there is a 13 MP strong camera and on the front, an 8 MP camera also enables video conferencing.

Fast charging with 22.5 watts of power

Until recently, OnePlus was considered the non-plus-ultra as far as fast charging of a battery is concerned, Xiaomi now seems to be the blocking tip in this important discipline. This is especially evident in the new smartphone flagship Xiaomi 11T Pro. It is therefore hardly surprising that the Chinese also provide their Pad 5 with a fast-charging feature. The 8,720 mAh battery is supposed to last for a long time, but the 22.5 watt power adapter is used when it is empty. With its help, the battery can be recharged quickly.

Matching stylus

A big selling point of the Android competitor Samsung has always been the stylus integration. Of course, Xiaomi also offers such a handy input device in its Pad 5 with its Smart Pen. With a total of 4,096 pressure levels and a touch sampling rate of an impressive 240 Hz, even graphic designers should be thrilled.

As we know from the iPad, the stylus can be conveniently attached magnetically to the side of the tablet, where it also charges its battery. Unfortunately, the stylus is not included in the scope of delivery, but has to be purchased separately. In view of the low price for the Pad 5, however, that would have been highly surprising.

Price and availability

The Xiaomi Pad 5 will be available in stores starting today, September 23, 2021. The MSRP of the tablet, which is available in Pearl White and Cosmic Grey, is 399.90 euros. However, you can currently get Xiaomi’s challenge to the competition for only $299 (6 GB RAM + 128 GB flash storage) or $349 (6 GB RAM + 256 GB flash storage) via Aliexpress.
