Xiaomi to launch MIUI 13 globally in Q1 2022

Besides the new devices of the Redmi Note 11 series, Xiaomi also has another announcement to make. The latest version of the in-house operating system MIUI 13 is to be launched soon.

Comprehensive software update

MIUI 13 seems to bring some new features with it. For example, Xiaomi promises that the latest operating system will primarily offer a performance boost for many devices. On top of that, the so-called “Liquid Storage” is used with MIUI 13, which is supposed to save the flash memory of the Xiaomi devices. Furthermore, the so-called “Atomized Memory” sounds extremely exciting. This is supposed to improve performance by automatically closing applications that are running in the background.  The feature set is rounded off with “Focused Algorithms” and “Smart Balance”. While the former ensures efficient priosation by the CPU, the latter is supposed to increase the battery’s endurance. The so-called “Sidebar” also sounds exciting. This is used for conveniently switching between the opened apps and is supposed to be uncomplicated to open.

Differences between China and Europe

Actually, the surprise about MIUI 13 is not too big. After all, Xiaomi already announced its extensive update at the end of last year in China. However, at that time they only talked about the innovations coming to Chinese users. The launch event for Europe understandably focused on the European audience. Since we already know from the past that the Chinese company likes to differentiate between China and the rest of the world when it comes to updates, the excitement was still high.

It now turns out that the presentation for Europe lacked some features that Xiaomi announced for Chinese users. Especially the support of Google’s “Material You” will be sorely missed by some in our region. However, this is probably due to the fact that many unannounced features are simply tied to Android 12. However, MIUI 13 will initially only be rolled out for Android 11 in this country. So, with upcoming updates, the feature set should also become broader.

Rollout in the first quarter of 2022

But when will the time come? Xiaomi spoke at the launch event about MIUI 13 being rolled out in the first quarter of 2022. The company wants to focus on the following devices first:

  • Xiaomi Mi 11 | Mi 11i | Mi 11 Ultra
  • Xiaomi Mi 11 Lite | Mi 11 Lite 5G
  • Xiaomi 11T | Xiaomi 11T Pro
  • Xiaomi 11 Lite 5G NE
  • Redmi Note 11 | Redmi Note 11S
  • Redmi Note 11 Pro 4G | Redmi Note 11 Pro 5G
  • Redmi Note 10 | Redmi Note 10 JE
  • Redmi Note 10 Pro
  • Redmi Note 8 (2021)
  • Redmi 10
  • Xiaomi Pad 5
