XMG Studio: High-end desktop PC for audio and video production revealed

Manufacturer XMG has introduced a new high-end PC aimed specifically at professional audio and video producers. The XMG Studio relies on current high-end CPUs from Intel up to the Core i9-12900K and graphics cards up to the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3090 and is almost completely free configurable. Even under full load, the strong airflow should provide convincing cooling and quiet operation.

XMG Studio in detail

In the basic configuration, the new XMG Studio desktop PC relies on an Intel Core i5-12600K, with a maximum of a Core i9-12900K installed in the top model. All models use the Asus Prime Z690-P D4 motherboard, which has been specially tested for its compatibility for audio and video editing.

The Studio can either run with Intel’s integrated graphics chip or be equipped with an Nvidia GPU, with options ranging from the GeForce RTX 3050 to the RTX 3090. In addition, there is between 16 GB and 128 GB of DDR4-3200 RAM from the Vengeance LPX series from Corsair.

Up to three M.2 and 2.5-inch SSDs as well as a configuration option for a conventional 3.5-inch hard drive are available. The power supply comes from Seasonic’s Focus Plus series, optionally with 80 PLUS Gold or Platinum certification and an output of between 550 and 1,000 watts.

Strong airflow for quiet operation

All of this finds a place in the XMG Studio in the Fractal Design Torrent Compact case, which is characterized by its particularly high airflow. Two 180 mm fans are already installed ex-factory. The standard configuration provides for an additional Noctua NF-A 12×25 PWM in 120 mm format at the rear, optionally also in the black Chromax variant. Two additional 120mm fans mounted on the bottom of the case can be selected upon request.

The CPU is cooled by a Noctua NH-U12A, which can be selected either with brown-beige fans and a silver heatsink or in the completely black Chromax version. XMG equips the fans with a specially adapted curve that is supposed to offer the optimal balance between strong cooling performance and quiet operation under full load. The high-end desktop PC consistently does without RGB lighting so as not to distract from the work.

Compatibility tested across the board

XMG claims to have tested the Studio for maximum compatibility in all areas, as “audio users in particular do not yet fully trust Microsoft’s new Windows 11 operating system”.

For this purpose, the XMG Studio was tested with Windows 11 in all offered configurations with common hardware peripherals and software for audio-visual content creation. It is promised that ASIO drivers for professional audio interfaces, DAWs and VST plugins, as well as programs for game development and from the VR, VJ, streaming and other content creation areas “in the broader sense run without restrictions” should run.

Prices and Availability

The high-end desktop PC XMG Studio can be freely configured via bestware.com, as always with the manufacturer. In terms of basic features, the computer relies on Intel’s Core i5-12600K with integrated graphics, an Asus Prime Z690-P D4, two 8 GB Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4-3200, a 500 GB Samsung 980 SSD and a 550 watt Seasonic Focus Plus power supply. The starting price here is 1,169.00 Euros including VAT.

Upgrades of the CPU, GPU, working and system memory, as well as the power supply are possible for an additional charge. In addition, many other individualizations can be made in the configurator and the computer can be equipped with up to three M.2 SSDs, three normal SSDs and one HDD if desired, so that almost no wishes remain open here. In addition, every desktop PC comes with a 36-month manufacturer’s warranty. The XMG Studio is available for order now. More information can be found on the product website.
