ZTE Axon 30: Smartphone with under-display front camera unveiled

The Chinese manufacturer ZTE has officially unveiled the Axon 30 smartphone. The Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G does its job inside, but the special feature is the front-facing camera that is completely hidden under the display.

ZTE Axon 30: What’s inside

After the Ultra 30, ZTE presents another smartphone model with exciting features in the Axon 30. From a technical point of view, the device can convince with a Snapdragon 870 5G processor, either 6 or 12 GB RAM and 128 / 256 GB storage.

Like the predecessor Axon 20, the new version also relies on a front-facing camera that is installed below the display and is completely covered. It offers 16 megapixels, which should speak for a good quality, and is located below the AMOLED screen (without a notch or punch hole). According to ZTE, the image quality of the selfie camera, which was criticized in the predecessor, has improved significantly, but a test will have to prove whether that is actually the case.

Keyword display: This comes up with a 21.5:9 ratio and reaches a resolution of 2,460 x 1,080 pixels. Furthermore, 100% of the DCI-P3 color space is covered, and DC dimming is also supported. The screen diagonal is 6.92 inches, while a refresh rate of 120 Hz and a touch sampling rate of 360 Hz are achieved. In terms of acoustics, DTS:X is supposed to ensure a particularly good sound.

Quad camera with 64 megapixels

A quad camera is used on the back of the ZTE Axon 30, whose main camera resolves with 64 megapixels. This is joined by a super-wide-angle camera (8 megapixels), a macro camera (5 megapixels) and a depth sensor (2 megapixels). Optical image stabilization should prove especially useful for video recordings.

The battery of the ZTE Axon 30 comes to 4,200 mAh and can be charged quickly with 55 watts. ZTE did not reveal whether wireless charging is on board. The smartphone is equipped with Android 11 as the operating system, which the manufacturer superimposes with the MyOS 11 launcher.

Price and availability

So far, the ZTE Axon 30 has only been announced for the Chinese market. There, the variant with 8 / 128 GBytes costs the equivalent of just under 286 Euros. The model with 12 / 256 GBytes is priced at the equivalent of 403 euros. Sales will start on August 3, 2021, and details about the worldwide launch date and price will be provided shortly.
