Plextor has launched a new SSD series with the M9Pe series in early 2018. The new SSDs compete with Samsung‘s unprecedented competition. It is the fastest SSD from Trextor to date and is available both as an add-in card version and as an M.2 plug-in card. In our test we will deal with the Plextor M9PeG with 512 GB. This is the M.2 plug-in card with pre-installed heat sink.
BiCS 3 from Toshiba is used as flash memory. The TLC Flash is 64-layer and, although it is TLC Flash, offers a high speed. A Marvel 88SS1093 controller is responsible for the control, as with all previous Plextor NVMe SSDs. This one is a bit older and tends to overheat. However, we could not detect any disturbing temperature development in the M9PeG test. Interesting is however the LPDC (Low Density Parity Check) error correction used by Plextor, by which the TLC-Flashg reaches an MLC-like life expectancy. The PX-512M9PeG we tested thus achieves a TBW (Total Bytes Written) of 320 TB. The SLC buffer technology PlexNitro not only accelerates but also increases endurance.
