PNY SSDs: LX2030 and LX3030 bring up to 54,000 TBW

Mining is becoming increasingly interesting for PC users and professional crypto hunters. The memory manufacturer PNY now wants to meet this trend. With its LX2030 and LX3030, the company is launching two flash memories that are specifically suited for Chia mining. Especially the parameters of the Total Bytes Written (TBW) are supposed to cause a stir with up to 54,000. We take a look at the new storage solutions for crypto fans.

The perfect mining SSDs?

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Mooncoin and Co. – cryptocurrencies are becoming increasingly popular. So it is hardly surprising that mining around the digital currencies is increasing more and more. However, you also need the right hardware for mining at home. In addition to a powerful graphics card, the lifespan of the SSD, which serves as a data carrier, also plays a major role. How durable a flash memory is can best be seen from the TBW value. The higher it is, the longer the SSD can serve as a reliable storage medium. In May, an entirely new cryptocurrency, “Chia”, was launched.

PNY took this as an opportunity to launch two SSDs, the LX2030 and LX3030, which are said to be suitable for mining the new currencies. The larger the storage space in the LX3030, the higher the important parameter of the TBW turns out to be. The top model in the form of the LX3030 with 2 TB of storage is said to be able to offer a proud 54,000 TBW. In the 1 TB version, the value is 27,000 TBW. The LX2030 still offers a very good 10,000 TBW in its 2 TB variant. For comparison: conventional SSDs for classic consumers usually only manage around 1,000 TBW.

Some details about the technology are still missing

The two upcoming SSDs in the M.2 form factor are to be equipped with the modern PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. In the course of this, PNY promises speeds of a maximum of 3,200 MB/s (read) and 2,400 MB/s (write) for the LX3030, and 3,200 MB/s (read) and 1,000 MB/s (write) for the LX2030. Unfortunately, PNY does not give us any further details about the technology. As part of a press release, “PNY’s LX series SSDs utilize an advanced AI engine, LDPC and Flash I/F to improve NAND endurance.”

The Chia Coin has brought renewed movement to the crypto market.

However, it can be considered a set that PNY will rely on a controller from industry leader Phison for its upcoming SSDs. After all, the controller expert worked closely alongside PNY during the development of the two “mining SSDs”. Nevertheless, this is only speculation. One has to wait for a detailed data sheet on the part of the manufacturer here.

The competition does not sleep

Of course, the increasingly popular mining does not bypass other manufacturers. For example, the company Sabrent also offers storage solutions with its SSDs of the “Plotripper Pro” series, which can offer up to 54,000 TBW. We are curious how these developments will affect the classic consumer market.
