Polestar 2 is now available in three variants

The popular Polestar 2 is no longer available in just one version. The electric car experts are expanding their model range to include two more variants of the sporty racer. Until now, anyone interested in a Polestar 2 could only choose one engine and battery configuration. The vehicle came standard with a 78 kWh battery and a powerful dual motor. In addition to a maximum range of 480 km, customers were to be convinced with a performance of 408 hp. Let’s take a look at what the two new models can offer.

All good things come in threes

Tesla has led the way and the competition is following suit. So now Polestar also wants to offer several versions of its popular second-generation electric car with different battery or motor power. One of the two new versions is based on an improvement of the WLTP value. This is to increase from 480 km so far to 540 km. But for the increased range, the engine performance has to be weakened. The output of the single engine installed here shrinks to 231 hp. Another new version is to come with a 64 kWh battery and an engine output of 224 hp. In this combination, the third version is supposed to have a maximum range of 440 km and thus be the most affordable. For the two new variants of the Polestar 2, the company has dropped some features like the autopilot from the standard equipment. These have to be added as part of the optional equipment if you are interested in the assistance systems.

As a result, you can now buy the Polestar 2 in three different versions:

  • Standard Range Single Motor (41,930 euros)
  • Long Range Single Motor (44,930 euros)
  • Long Range Dual Motor (47,930 Euro)

Optional special equipment

Regardless of the version, you can still opt for different optional equipment. However, the popular Performance Package is reserved only for the powerful versions with dual engine. For 6,000 euros, you get practical additional features here, such as an improved chassis. In all three trim levels, you can get both the Plus package (4,500 euros) and the Pilot package (3,500 euros). Both packages were previously included as standard in the version with the Long Range Dual engine. Now you have to reckon with a surcharge here, too.

In addition to visual features, the Plus package also includes additional functions that focus on comfort. In addition to a huge panoramic glass roof, the premium package also includes a high-quality sound system from Harman Kardon with 13 speakers. Also included are fully electrically heated front seats with a memory function and a heated steering wheel. These and other features are probably made possible not least by the renewed heat pump.

Unlike the Plus package, the Pilot package focuses on safety rather than comfort. Thus, safety and assistance systems are part of this package. The Driver Assistance system offers adaptive speed control as well as a lane-keeping function. On top of that, the Driving Assistant ensures that the Polestar 2 reliably keeps its distance from the vehicle in front. Reliable brake support, a blind spot warning system and a 360-degree camera are also part of the comprehensive Pilot package.

New models available now

If you’re currently on the hunt for an electric car, you can now get your hands on the Polestar 2 configurator. According to the manufacturer, we will probably not be able to take a look in the flesh until September in Polestar’s stores. Polestar’s move is probably not reminiscent of Tesla’s strategy by chance. After all, the US electric car manufacturer also offers its Model 3 in three different versions. This is in direct competition with the Polestar 2.
