The Aiper IrriSense 2 is no ordinary lawn sprinkler. The new 4-in-1 system from Chinese smart home specialist Aiper combines a control unit, sprinkler system, electric valve, and fertilizer dispenser into a single device, aiming to replace several traditional irrigation components at once. Following its predecessor, which we’ve already tested extensively—our Aiper IrriSense review back then revealed a few weaknesses—Aiper has now stepped it up. The company announced the IrriSense 2 at CES 2026 and officially launched it in Germany shortly thereafter. We tested it in the garden for a few days and will tell you who this system is best suited for.

Design and Build Quality of the Aiper Irrisense 2
Visually, the IrriSense 2 stands out clearly from traditional lawn sprinklers and flat sprinkler heads. Its slim, upright column shape allows it to be positioned neatly at the edge of a lawn without getting in the way. This is especially appreciated by those who use a robotic lawn mower. The device sits outside the mower’s path and doesn’t need to be repositioned for every mowing cycle. On top of that, this positioning ensures that no annoying dry patch remains on the lawn.
The black plastic surface gives a high-quality impression, even though little is officially disclosed about the exact material composition. The rotating spray head turns up to 360 degrees and can be set to any angle via the app. A small plastic lip then breaks up the water stream to ensure the most comprehensive coverage possible. On the top is a gauge that allows you to read the water pressure of the incoming water.
Setup: Quick and tool-free
Aiper advertises an installation time of about 15 minutes. Even though setup is a breeze, it took me closer to 30 minutes. In my opinion, however, that’s still significantly faster than other professional irrigation solutions that first need to be buried and require complex hose routing. The device is anchored in the ground with a ground spike, the garden hose is connected, the power cable is run to the nearest outlet, and then you can start setting it up via the Aiper app.
The app guides you through the Wi-Fi setup and subsequent mapping of the garden via a configuration wizard. The mapping itself is the heart of the setup: using the app, you manually rotate the spray head while marking the boundaries of the area to be watered within the app. This works intuitively, but requires a bit of patience to ensure the zones are positioned precisely.
Especially along edges that are close to flower beds, paths, or patios, it’s worth mapping carefully and making adjustments if necessary. It’s helpful that you can create up to 10 separate irrigation zones—each with its own schedules, plant types, and watering volume settings. This was significantly more limited in the previous model and is now one of the most noticeable improvements.
App Control and Smart Features
The Aiper app is the central hub of the system. It features a clearly structured layout with live overviews of water usage, zone analytics, and schedule management. Particularly handy: via the Weather-Sense Response System, the IrriSense 2 automatically takes weather data into account. As soon as the built-in rain sensor detects five minutes of continuous rainfall, irrigation stops for the current day. In addition, when Wi-Fi is active, weather forecasts are integrated, allowing the system to act proactively—if rain is forecast, it reschedules planned watering cycles; during dry spells, the cooling mode can be activated.
Three different watering programs are available: area, line, and spot watering. This makes the IrriSense 2 significantly more flexible than its predecessor and is a real added value, especially for gardens with narrow strips of lawn or irregular shapes. The app does not currently offer native integration with existing smart home systems such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home. However, given the system’s independent weather-based automation, this is hardly noticeable in everyday use—the system simply decides on its own when and how much to water.
Watering performance of the Aiper IrriSense 2
In practical use, the IrriSense 2 demonstrates its strengths on open, contiguous lawn areas. The EvenRain technology, which according to the manufacturer simulates natural rainfall, actually distributes water more evenly than a conventional circular sprinkler—no jet that over-saturates one side while leaving the perimeter dry. With a water pressure of at least 2 bar and an open area of around 100 m², we observed the first positive results on the lawn after two weeks: The distribution was significantly more uniform than before with a manually positioned sprinkler.
However, it’s important to note: The advertised maximum coverage of 445 m² requires really good water pressure. If you’re working with a connection that has relatively low pressure, you should lower your expectations a bit. If you notice that the edge areas aren’t being fully reached, you should first increase the pressure at the main valve before making adjustments in the app.
For gardens with many nooks and crannies, areas behind walls, or divided sections with obstacles, the concept of a single central installation point reaches its physical limits. An app cannot magically remove obstacles in the way. If you have a garden like this, you should assess the situation very honestly before purchasing and look for an alternative with multiple sprinklers.
Fertilizer dispenser: The special extra
One of the most interesting features is the integrated nutrient dispenser. The IrriSense 2 can dispense liquid fertilizers or treatments via the irrigation water on a timed schedule and as needed.
This saves a separate step, especially for homeowners who fertilize their lawn regularly. The dosage can be configured via the app. In practice, this is a useful addition—though you’ll need to keep an eye on the reservoir and refill it regularly.
Improvements over the predecessor
Anyone familiar with the first IrriSense will quickly notice the improvements. The original app version was unstable, map changes weren’t reliably applied, and flexibility in zone management was very limited. The IrriSense 2 is significantly more refined in all these areas. The software feels more stable and well-thought-out, zone changes can be entered cleanly, and the three irrigation modes provide noticeably more control. Aiper has clearly responded to user feedback—which is commendable.
Conclusion: Who is the Aiper IrriSense 2 worth it for?
The Aiper IrriSense 2 is a significantly more mature product than its predecessor—and you can tell in everyday use. If you have an open garden with a lawn area between 100 and 445 m², can accommodate a water connection and a nearby power outlet, and don’t want to deal with complex underground wiring, this is a smart all-in-one solution that actually delivers on its promises. However, sufficient water pressure is a prerequisite. The combination of zone control, weather-based automation, and the integrated fertilizer dispenser is truly impressive in this price range.
For very large or unusually shaped properties with many obstacles, however, the system falls short of its potential—not because the technology is inferior, but because a single central spray point physically cannot work miracles. In such cases, permanently installed systems with multiple sprinklers would be the better choice. But for those with a clearly defined lawn who are finally tired of standing there with a hose, the IrriSense 2 offers a compelling entry point into smart garden irrigation—and it’s a perfect fit for our irrigation system guide.
