With dimensions of 46 x 27.9 x 25.4 cm and a weight of 29.2 kg, the AiO system is not exactly a lightweight. The practical carrying handles that Anker has integrated into the sides make transportation easier. All in all, the dimensions are the same as its predecessor. The Solarbank 3 Pro is only 3 cm higher. In view of the numerous improvements, this is not a major increase in size.

We will explain later what has been improved. On the front of the system is a black bar with a high-gloss finish and two control buttons. However, the Anker SOLIX app is essential for comprehensive control. We will also go into this later. The four pairs of MC4 plugs are located at the rear, via which the power collected by the PV units is fed into the storage system.

Speaking of storage. The expansion batteries can be conveniently plugged in via the port on the underside. You can connect up to five additional BP1600 (€ 599.00 *) and BP2700 (€ 899.00 *) batteries.

Anker SOLIX Solarbank 3 Pro test: Quick commissioning

The Anker SOLIX Solarbank 3 Pro is a genuine all-in-one solution. This means that you not only save on tangled cables, but also benefit from simple installation. This is mainly due to the fact that Anker has integrated the inverter into the storage system.

Your only task is to connect the storage system to a socket in or on your house or apartment using a mains cable. The outdoor socket on the balcony, terrace or garden is of course ideal for this.

You can then connect the solar panels via the four pairs of connections and continue with the smartphone. Add the system via the Anker SOLIX app and you’re ready to go. This is true plug and play and ensures a pleasantly uncomplicated entry into the world of PV energy.

Anker SOLIX Solarbank 3 Pro test: Differences to its predecessor

Visually, the Solarbank 3 Pro looks like a scalding hot rehash of the Solarbank 2 Pro. But appearances are deceptive. On closer inspection, it becomes clear that Anker SOLIX has given the third generation an extensive technology update that is not immediately apparent.

More storage capacity and bidirectional charging

One of the most significant improvements is certainly the increased storage capacity. Without additional batteries, the SOLIX Solarbank 3 Pro already offers a storage capacity of 2.7 kWh. This is a significant increase compared to its predecessor. At 1.6 kWh, the Solarbank 2 Pro offers considerably less. In view of the small increase in size of just 3 centimeters, this is really something to be proud of. If that’s not enough, you can benefit from the modular design.

This enables extensive storage expansion. If you make the most of it and plug in five BP2700 expansion batteries, the total capacity of the balcony power station system increases to a whopping 16 kWh. What we really like is the extensive compatibility. This means you can also use the extension batteries of your Solarbank 2 Pro with the third generation. One really cool improvement is the option of bidirectional charging.

This means that the Solarbank 3 Pro can not only be charged with electricity from solar energy. Charging via mains power is also possible. This makes a lot of sense, especially in the age of dynamic electricity tariffs. To ensure that your PV system is always up to date, Anker SOLIX accesses data from Nord Pool. At times of low electricity prices, the system can then charge your storage system to provide electricity for times when there is little sunshine.

Up to 64 kWh storage capacity in parallel operation

If even 16 kWh is not enough for you, the storage capacity can be expanded even further. According to Anker SOLIX, it will soon be possible to connect several Anker SOLIX Solarbank 3 Pro models together. It should be possible to connect a total of four systems, making a theoretical total capacity of 64 kWh possible.

By combining several solar banks, you can set up a genuine PV system (Image: Anker)

In this way, you can quickly turn your balcony power plant into a genuine PV system. However, this not only increases the total capacity of the system, but also the output. The total output of the Solarbank 3 Pro in the basic configuration is 1.2 kW. If four systems are connected together, this becomes 4.8 kW. This also corresponds to the parameters of a fully-fledged PV solution for the roof.

You can also supply external devices with power via the emergency socket

.

However, connecting multiple systems is not for the uninitiated. It should then be mandatory to hire an expert for the installation. You do not have to consult the local electrician and/or experts for the installation of PV systems. Instead, Anker wants to offer an in-house installation service in the future.

Input power increases to 3.6 kW

If you take a look at the back of the Solarbank Pro 3, everything looks familiar again. You will find a total of four pairs of MC4 connectors. The four MPPTs are connected downstream of these. But if you look at the technical data, you will notice a decisive difference. While the maximum input power of the predecessor was 2,400 W, it is now 3,600 W.

In theory, this means that you can connect a maximum of eight solar modules with 450 watts each. However, this is only theoretically possible. According to current legal regulations, only a maximum of 2,000 W is possible in Germany. However, it is quite conceivable that these restrictions will change in the future. The mere possibility of this makes the Solarbank 3 Pro a future-proof solution.

However, you must also pay attention to the actual feed-in power. The maximum in Germany is 800 W. However, you don’t have to worry about the legal consequences. After all, the integrated inverter ensures that no more than 800 W can be fed into the grid in the first place. However, if you operate the Solarbank 3 Pro as a genuine PV system, you are not bound by these limitations.

Anker SOLIX Solarbank 3 Pro test: Anker SOLIX App

The Anker SOLIX app is of course also used in the third generation for the comprehensive control and monitoring of the balcony power plant system. It impresses with a great overview, a modern look and lots of setting options. But we already know this from the predecessor. One really exciting new feature, however, is “Anker Intelligence”. Anker SOLIX relies on the support of artificial intelligence.

The support provided by the AI is quite extensive and pays off especially after prolonged regular use. Anker Intelligence learns over time and is able to make helpful predictions. In addition to your usual power consumption, the typical input power and other data is also available. Thanks to access to weather forecasts, Anker Intelligence can also determine how the system will work best in the future.

Anker Intelligence really comes into its own when combined with a dynamic electricity tariff. If the system is fed with sufficient data through the integration of various smart components, Anker Intelligence can switch between drawing electricity from the grid and from solar panels. For example, if the weather forecast predicts bad weather for the next few days, the system prepares itself by charging with the cheapest possible grid power.

The AI calculation allows you to see in advance how much surplus solar energy will be collected. This is particularly advantageous for owners of an electric car or e-bike. For example, you can integrate a smart socket into the system, which is activated when there is a surplus of energy and outputs the surplus electricity to charge the battery. If you want to take advantage of Anker Intelligence, you will also need a smart meter. The compatibility of Anker SOLIX with models from other manufacturers is pleasing.

Conclusion

With the SOLIX Solarbank 3 E2700 Pro, Anker impressively demonstrates how well thought-out a modern balcony power station can be in 2025. The combination of high battery capacity, simple plug-and-play installation, robust workmanship and intelligent control via app makes it one of the most advanced solutions currently available on the market. In particular, the possibility of modular expansion – both in terms of storage and system performance – ensures that the Solarbank 3 Pro is not only attractive for beginners, but also for ambitious users with greater requirements.

Technical highlights such as bidirectional charging, up to 64 kWh of storage in parallel operation and the integration of AI-supported energy management via Anker Intelligence clearly show that this system is not only made for the present, but is also equipped for the future.
