AVM FRITZ!DECT 440 in test – small, smart device

AVM also offers various other smart home elements in addition to its thermostats. The FRITZ!DECT 440 is a push button with an e-paper display and a total of four buttons. Even more, it shows the temperatures of thermostats or the general room temperature. And there’s even a small, interesting feature on top.

AVM supplies the FRITZ!DECT 440 with a metal wall mount. There is also a matching adhesive pad for mounting, in case you don’t want to screw the bracket on. Since the DECT 440 is equipped with a magnet, the button is very easy to take off and accept.

Massive features in a small device

The push button offers plenty of features, albeit somewhat hidden. AVM devices are easy to integrate, whether it’s the FRITZ!DECT 500 light bulb or the FRITZ!DECT 301 thermostat button. The power sockets can also be switched via the buttons. The integration is also done quickly via the Fritz!Box interface.

The DECT 440 can also be integrated into various smart home systems. Whether Home Assistant, openHAB or Home Connect Plus. Unfortunately, it is so far a point that is integrated, and one of the most interesting. The button has its own sensor for the temperature and humidity in the room on board.

The DECT ULE radio standard is used for connection. Among other things, this ensures a battery life of one year. And after that, the AA batteries can be easily replaced.

To configure the DECT 440 push button, a Fritz!Box is almost mandatory. Via the Smart Home app, we can only view the temperature and humidity including statistics. The MyFritz! app only shows us the temperature. Via the interface of the Fritz!Box, we can determine which function should be stored in which display. For the test, we have stored the thermostats.

The push button can be mounted flexibly due to the included adhesive pad. A central location is therefore advisable, especially if several devices are to be controlled via the FRITZ!DECT 440. The integration of the thermostats works without problems. In the standard view, the respective temperatures are also displayed, after pressing a button, the desired room temperature can then be set.

Conclusion

That AVM’s smart home products limit you in compatibility with other manufacturers is no secret. However, should you want to move in the DECT standard, you are already well provided for with AVM. With the DECT 440 you get a really good extension to control or even just to overview your devices.
