Bot Z10 Pro – Dreame’s latest vacuuming and mopping robot in test

The Chinese manufacturer Dreame Technology, which specializes in cleaning devices, was founded back in 2015. Since 2017, the company has been part of the Xiaomi Ecological Chain and has also become more well-known outside of China. In May, they now introduced the new vacuuming and mopping robot lineup, which includes the L10 Pro, Z10 Pro and W10 Pro models.

We were provided with the Dreame Bot Z10 Pro for the test. The vacuuming and mopping robot has a suction station and, in addition to this, offers high-precision navigation via LiDAR, a maximum suction power of 4000 Pa and a battery life of up to 2.5 hours, which, according to Dreame, should be enough for up to 250 m². How the latest model from Dreame performs in the practical test, we clarify in the following test.

Scope of delivery

The scope of delivery of the Dreame Z10 Pro includes, in addition to the vacuuming and mopping robot itself and the suction station, the associated power cord, a side brush, another dust collection bag (one is already inserted in the suction station), a cleaning tool and a comprehensive user manual. For the wiping function, the water tank and wiping cloth are also included. The wiping cloth is made of microfiber and can be washed and therefore used multiple times.

Thus, a basic equipment is available for the first time. Later, however, then at least further dust collection bags, but possibly also other accessories must be purchased.

Design and workmanship

While the majority of robot vacuums are white, Dreame goes for black on the Z10 Pro, though it’s more of a dark shade of gray. The top of the robot is glossy, and below it is the dust bin, which you don’t have to empty, but should clean regularly. The glossy surface looks classy on the one hand, but it also has the disadvantage that you can see dust on the robot very well. On the other hand, the navigation tower and the controls are made of matte plastic. The three controls are also illuminated in white. The matte gray plastic is also used on the underside of the robot, with only the orange of the brush and rubber lips providing a contrast.

The suction and charging station is also matte gray. Since the robot is emptied and charged from below, the station has a ramp that the robot moves onto after each cleaning. When the robot is charging, an LED below the Dreame logo lights up. Here, too, the robot relies on rather discreet white illumination. The power cord can also be wound up on the back of the cleaning station if the full length is not needed. By the way, this is plugged in and not permanently installed, which makes the user a bit more flexible.

Overall, the design convinces us. We like the color choice, although the gray extraction station in front of a classic white wall is of course rather eye-catching. However, it is up to each individual to decide whether and where it fits into the home. The only small point of criticism here is the glossy surface. Here, we would have liked a matte gray, which is not so susceptible to dirt or where it is not so noticeable, better for purely practical reasons. Besides that, the matte gray of the Z10 Pro also looks very appealing.

The material quality and workmanship of the robot vacuum and charging station are also impressive. The plastic leaves a good and high-quality impression, and we did not notice any flaws in the workmanship.

Setup and app

The setup and startup of the vacuum robot is done with the help of the Xiaomi Home app, at this point it becomes clear again that Dreame, like many other Chinese companies, belongs to the Xiaomi Ecological Chain. We add a new device to our home within the app and look for the Z10 Pro. Alternatively, we scan the QR code from the instructions and save ourselves the manual search. The app guides us through the few and simple steps.

If the connection fails, you should temporarily change your router settings. In our case, the connection only worked after deactivating the 5 GHz WLAN. After setting it up, you can of course enable it again.

The map of your apartment forms the home page of the app. This is created automatically during the first cleaning, and multiple layers are also possible. The robot scans the surroundings for this and in most cases also recognizes when the room is changed. The created map can also be edited by the user. Thus, rooms can be further divided, if the Dreame Z10 Pro has combined several, or forbidden zones can be set up. The latter are especially handy in households with children or animals to avoid sucking up toys or small parts, another example would be walk-in showers.

The app offers a wide range of functions. Even though the default settings should already fit most people, we recommend that you simply click through completely in the beginning and adapt the Dreame Z10 Pro to your circumstances. Among other things, you can adjust the suction power and the water flow rate within the app. If you want to vacuum different floors, you can also activate the performance boost for carpets. This increases the suction power on carpets and reduces it back to the standard setting when the robot has left the carpet. In addition, cleanings can be scheduled, the automatic emptying can be adjusted, including DND mode, which only allows the quite loud emptying during the day, and much more. If the robot does not reach certain parts of the apartment on its own or if you want to go back to a spot that has already been cleaned, you can use the remote control within the app, which allows manual control. In addition to these many functions, the app also points out the service schedule and thus ensures that you keep an eye on the wear and tear of the parts or even their cleaning.

The robot vacuum notifies you of the start, the end of cleaning, the completion of positioning, use of the water tank and other things via speech. Speech and volume are customizable. After the end of cleaning, you also receive a push message with information about the cleaning on your smartphone.

Suction and wiping

In addition to the high suction power of up to 4000 Pa, the robot vacuum has a rotating brush with rubber lips on the underside. This ensures that more dirt is captured and also absorbed. If you have long hair or pets, you should clean them regularly, since the suction power can decrease significantly when they are more dirty. For the wiping function, the Dreame Z10 Pro has a flat tank and a wiping cloth. The tank is filled with water and the cloth is moistened. Then both are attached together at the back of the robot. After the wiping process, the tank should be removed again and the cloth cleaned.

When cleaning, you can choose between the entire apartment, individual or even several rooms, and area cleaning around the perimeter of the robot vacuum cleaner. Vacuuming worked very well in everyday use. With the default setting, all rooms with laminate or tiles were cleaned thoroughly and without residues. Carpets, on the other hand, require more suction power, so we activated the performance boost for carpets, which then also removed pet hair for the most part. The detection of carpets worked very reliably in the test, and even leaving them was quickly registered by the robot. The robot also overcame small steps with a height of up to 2 cm without any problems. Thanks to the extensive sensor technology, steps and other things are detected so that the Z10 Pro does not fall down anywhere. We found the robot’s volume to be pleasant for a vacuum cleaner with the standard setting. Strong and Turbo are significantly louder, but were only used on carpet, as we otherwise found the suction power to be sufficient. With the Light setting, the robot vacuum cleaner is once again significantly quieter, but the suction power also decreases noticeably. Overall, we found the Standard mode with the performance boost for carpets to be optimal.

The Dreame Z10 Pro also left a good impression when mopping, even though it did not convince nearly as much as when vacuuming. Thanks to the adjustable water flow rate, the robot is suitable for all floors. On medium, the robot still mops rather damp than wet, so the floors were dry again shortly after in summer temperatures. Dirt was reliably removed for the most part, but in some cases, especially with harder stains that were already a bit older, there is simply a lack of pressure that the robot cannot exert on the floor. The wipe is only pulled over the floor and thus removes rather light stains. The Z10 Pro is thus well suited for regularly mopping the apartment, but most people, especially people with children or pet owners, will probably not be able to avoid mopping the floor themselves from time to time. We therefore see the mop function more as a supplement to the mop, but by no means as a replacement.

The recognition of objects worked very well in the test. When creating maps and driving around the apartment, the Dreame Bot Z10 Pro reached all accessible places. There were no problems even under tables, between chairs and other objects. The obstacle avoidance functioned reliably, was sometimes almost too good or sensitive. While this is of course very advantageous for pets’ toys or small parts, we sometimes had the problem that larger accumulations of dirt, e.g. larger amounts of litter in front of the cat toilet, were bypassed. However, this happened very rarely. In addition, you have to decide as a manufacturer, of course, whether it is preferable to leave some dirt or possibly suck up things that should not be sucked up. The former is probably the better choice in most cases, so this is a bit annoying but also justifiable.

The battery life lasts up to 2.5 hours and thus for up to 250 m² according to Dreame. In testing, the battery consumption per square meter was a bit higher, but also varies greatly depending on how much free space is available and how many objects have to be maneuvered around. Overall, we rate this as good and more than sufficient. It takes 3 hours until the 5,200 mAh battery is fully charged. This is also good, as most people probably let the vacuum suck once or twice a day at most, so there is more than enough time for charging.

Suction station

The suction station also serves as a charging station and proves to be very practical in the test. While most robots pick up dust and dirt up to a volume of 400 ml and then need to be emptied, the suction station offers a volume of 4 liters. The dust bag of the station thus lasts for up to 65 days, according to Dreame. After a little over 3 weeks of daily use, it is still not nearly full. Emptying by the user is thus much less frequent. However, we would have liked an emptiable and thus reusable container instead of a bag even better.

When the robot vacuum is not in use, it parks in the suction station. After it has completed its cleaning tasks, it returns to the station, empties itself and then charges. Within the app, it is still possible to specify at which times and after how many cleanings the robot’s dust container is emptied. Especially the DND mode proved to be very practical, since vacuuming is very loud and we want to avoid this noise at least in the evenings and at night. Moreover, the vacuuming works reliably, we did not find any residues in the container of the robot.

For reliable positioning, Dreame also advises ample space around the suction station. Strictly speaking, this means at least 50 cm to the left and right of the station and at least 1.50 m in front of it. In the test, considerably less space proved to be sufficient. Even if there were objects directly next to it, the positioning worked. However, you should have at least one meter of free space in front of it, since the vacuum cleaner moves out a bit. Furthermore, the station’s surroundings should not change much. If you move furniture and other things, the robot does not recognize the surroundings, scans them again and creates another map. If this problem occurs it is also possible to reload the old map.

Conclusion

The Dreame Bot Z10 Pro leaves a very good impression in the test. Material quality and workmanship are convincing, this includes the suction station. It is noticeable that value is placed on high quality and in which class Dreame wants to position the device. Besides the robot itself, the Xiaomi Home app is also convincing. The setup is fast and uncomplicated, the range of functions is large and the settings are well thought-out. While many manufacturers convince with the technology, but then fail with the app, Dreame has to be highlighted positively here for once.

We found the suction power to be very good in the test, and the noise is also relatively low. In our household with two longhaired cats, only a few hairs remained on the carpet. However, we have to admit here that we also have to go over it several times with a larger corded vacuum to really remove everything. The suction station also convinced us and also takes away further work. Whether you need it or not is something everyone has to decide for themselves. While the Dreame Z10 Pro is consistently convincing when it comes to vacuuming, we see the wiping as a nice feature that works more or less well and also helps in everyday life, but the Bot Z10 Pro is clearly more of a vacuuming robot than a wiping robot. Prospective buyers should take this into consideration before making a purchase. In terms of mapping, the detection of furniture and objects, there is nothing to complain about, apart from the fact that the robot is almost a bit too cautious in parts and therefore skilfully bypasses coarse dirt in very rare cases.

Overall, the vacuuming and mopping robot leaves a very positive impression, even if we still see some room for improvement in some areas.
