With the Magic, BOYA has already launched an outstanding and extremely versatile wireless microphone. Now the manufacturer is following up: The tiny BOYA Mini 2 promises a convincing sound in a compact format. In this test, we find out whether it succeeds.

BOYA Mini 2 Review: design and workmanship
At just 5 g, the BOYA Mini 2 is one of the lightest wireless microphones ever. Its minimalist, modern housing makes it particularly discreet and suitable for everyday use. The dimensions of the transmitter (23.2 x 22.4 x 10.1 mm) make the device almost disappear; the same applies to the USB-C (2.5 g) or Lightning receiver (3 g), both of which are included in the scope of delivery.
The only downside is that the charging case only has space for one of the two receivers. So you either have to leave the other one at home or carry it separately.
A sturdy metal clip is integrated into the case, which ensures a secure hold on any clothing. The black finish and high-quality plastic edging make a robust impression, although the device was primarily designed for mobile use and less for harsh outdoor conditions.
The included charging case weighs just 29 g and, together with the microphones, enables an operating time of up to 30 hours. The case is slim (67.4 x 48.4 x 22.5 mm) and fits easily into any trouser pocket. Ideal for on the go, vlogs, spontaneous interviews or streaming jobs.
Setup and operation
As with the Magic, the BOYA Mini 2 is a prime example of plug-and-play convenience. The transmitter and receiver are automatically connected via an interference-resistant 2.4 GHz digital frequency. Installation does not require any pairing, apart from plugging the receiver into the mobile device, as the system recognizes the connection immediately. Operation is further enhanced via the “BOYA Central” app. The functions include:
- Adjustment of amplification (gain) and EQ profile
- Low cut filter (75/150 Hz) to reduce wind and impact noise
- Adjustment of the microphone sensitivity
- Activation of the safety track function (a backup audio track with -12 dB)
- Selection of mono/stereo mode
The microphone is operated directly via a multifunctional button that can be used to switch between normal operation, strong (-40 dB) or light (-15 dB) noise reduction and mute. An RGB LED indicates the status: blue for connected, green for recording, red for low battery or mute.
This means that the Mini 2 not only scores with intuitive and reliable operation, but also with an extremely practical companion app that proves to be very practical and helpful during use.
Battery life of the BOYA Mini 2
The battery life is approx. 6 hours (without noise suppression, approx. 4.5 hours with active noise suppression), which is an impressive figure considering its tiny dimensions. In combination with the charging case, use for up to 30 hours is possible. The microphones are fully charged in around two hours.
The microphone automatically goes into energy-saving mode when inactive. The system supports Android and iOS devices, Mac/Windows computers and numerous action cams, making it extremely flexible to use.
Impressive sound quality in the BOYA Mini 2
The BOYA Mini 2 impresses in practical tests with crystal-clear, detailed recording quality in 48 kHz/24-bit resolution, which is particularly important for demanding voice recordings such as podcasts, interviews or voice-overs. The frequency transmission is between 20 Hz and 20 kHz – voices are reproduced neutrally and without annoying peaks or dullness.
The built-in AI-supported noise cancellation (in two stages) reliably eliminates ambient noise without impairing speech intelligibility. We were particularly impressed by the strong mode in the test, which reduces noise by up to 40 dB.
Street noise or loud ambient noise in particular is effectively filtered out without any significant impact on speech intelligibility. In conjunction with the foam attachment, wind noise is also filtered out very well, making the microphone very suitable for outdoor use.

In the practical test, the combination of a strong limiter, 80 dB signal-to-noise ratio and safety track ensures that even unexpected level peaks or very loud voices do not become a problem: A second audio track is recorded at -12 dB so that clipping can be ironed out afterwards.
The BOYA Mini 2 is capable of processing sound pressure levels of up to 120 dB SPL and remains stable and distortion-free even in extremely loud situations. The latency is only 25 ms – there is no visible or audible delay, even when recording video. Thanks to digital transmission, the signal remains stable at a distance of up to 100 meters.
A particularly practical feature is that you can choose between mono and stereo recording. In mono mode, both channels are combined; in stereo mode, the left and right channels are recorded separately – ideal for two-person interviews.
However, during the BOYA Mini 2 test, both audio signals were also combined into one audio track in mono mode when using two transmitters. So if you are planning an interview, for example, the voices of both speakers are recorded on one audio track, which makes subsequent editing somewhat more difficult.

Small but powerful: With the BOYA Mini 2, the manufacturer delivers a convincing wireless microphone that combines an impressive sound with compact dimensions. We were particularly impressed by the AI-supported noise suppression in the test, which effectively suppresses ambient noise without significantly altering the voice reproduction.
This makes the BOYA Mini 2 a compact all-rounder for content creators who value maximum flexibility, direct control via app, very good voice quality and uncomplicated operation. And who are looking for a particularly handy and lightweight solution that doesn’t have to hide behind big names like DJI or Rode.
