The Dangbei DBOX02 Pro presented at IFA 2025 promises great cinema for the living room at a price that could make TV buyers pause for thought. With native 4K resolution, 2,000 ISO lumens brightness and integrated Google TV, the Chinese laser projector positions itself as a fully-fledged TV replacement. Unlike bulky ultra-short throw projectors or low-light budget models, the DBOX02 Pro combines flexibility with performance: automatic setup in seconds, image sizes of up to 300 inches and gaming in 4K or even 240 Hz in Full HD. But can a projector for around EUR 1,100 really keep up with modern smart TVs?

Dangbei DBOX02 Pro Review: design and workmanship
The Dangbei DBOX02 Pro presents itself as a compact, modern projector that deliberately does not hide behind lifestyle elements, but instead focuses on a clean and very high-quality design. With dimensions of around 247 × 263 × 216 mm and a weight of just under 4.8 kg, the projector is absolutely high-quality.
The matt surface in rich black with discreetly rounded edges and a slightly curved front section gives the device a contemporary aesthetic with a touch of retro charm. The finger-repellent coating is particularly successful, keeping the housing clean even after frequent adjustments. It’s just a shame that Dangbei doesn’t have a lens cover. This means that the lens magically attracts dust.
The all-round grille conceals two 12-watt Harman Kardon loudspeakers, while the high-quality lens conveys a premium impression thanks to its deliberate framing. A real highlight is the seamless, 360-degree rotatable and 120-degree tiltable stand, which even allows ceiling projection without having to deal with cumbersome screw feet.
The connections are clearly arranged at the back, although the power connection is hidden so deep in the stand that you have to search for it the first time. Compared to ultra-compact lifestyle projectors such as the Xgimi Halo or MoGo 4, the DBOX02 Pro is not quite as portable, but offers significantly more flexibility than classic ultra-short throw projectors that require a fixed installation.
Connections and operation of the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro
The connectivity of the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is contemporary and well thought out. There are two HDMI 2.1 ports on the rear, one of which supports eARC. Ideal for connecting external sound systems.
There is also a USB 2.0 port, a 3.5 mm jack connection and a LAN port for a wired network. The wireless connectivity is also very modern. In addition to dual-band Wi-Fi 6, the DBPOX02 Pro also supports Bluetooth 5.2, which is excellent for fast media streaming as well as for connecting wireless headphones or speakers.
The Google TV operating system is directly integrated and offers smooth navigation and useful recommendations without being intrusive. All common streaming apps are pre-installed, which makes access much easier. The supplied remote control (even including batteries, which is a rarity) is neatly designed and intuitive to use. You don’t have to wade through a manual to find your way around.
The numerous comfort functions such as automatic eye protection, which dims the laser beam as soon as someone walks through the projection area, and HDMI-CEC for automatically waking up connected devices are positive highlights. Although the advertised one-click dust removal ensures clean optics, it simply blows the dust into the room, so you’ll have to keep dealing with it. Nevertheless, a practical feature in everyday life.
The Dangbei DBOX02 Pro in practice
Setting up the DBOX02 Pro is impressively straightforward and shows that Dangbei has clearly focused on suitability for everyday use. After plugging it into the socket, all you have to do is point the projector roughly towards the wall and the technology takes over. The combination of autofocus, automatic keystone correction, geometry adjustment and screen alignment works so precisely and quickly that you can get started straight away. The device even recognizes obstacles in the projection area and adjusts the image accordingly so that decorative objects or pieces of furniture do not interfere with the display. The real-time keystone correction is particularly fascinating: if you turn the projector during projection, the image automatically readjusts itself to remain perfectly aligned.
Thanks to laser phosphor technology, the projector starts up almost immediately. No slow start-up, no patient waiting for full brightness. With around 2,000 ISO lumens, the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is bright enough for daylight use, which in practice means: soccer in the afternoon, YouTube sessions with open curtains or movie marathons are possible without any problems. The flexible throw ratio of 1.27:1 enables picture sizes of 100 to 120 inches from typical living room distances. At a distance of around four meters, even 150 inches are possible and if you have eight meters of space, you can theoretically go up to 300 inches. However, only very few people have that much space available.
In everyday life, you can simply place the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro on a sideboard, coffee table or shelf. The ceiling mounting option is also very practical and offers additional flexibility for real home theater setups without having to sacrifice the ability to rotate. At maximum brightness level (level 10), however, the ventilation becomes clearly audible, which was quite annoying.
On the positive side, reducing the brightness to level 9, i.e. only slightly less, made the fan almost inaudible without the picture quality suffering noticeably. In gaming mode at high refresh rates, the fan also turns up, but this can be easily compensated for by turning up the excellent speakers.
Image and sound quality
The picture quality of the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is undoubtedly the greatest strength of the premium projector. It is impressive across the board and shows that Dangbei is serious about its TV replacement claim. The native 4K resolution (3840 × 2160 pixels) delivers impressively sharp details, while the color reproduction appears vivid without oversaturating colors and delivering an unnatural image.
HDR10+ support provides additional dynamic range and the high brightness of around 2,000 ISO lumens makes the picture usable even in mixed light without any problems. A real advantage over many competitors. Like most bright DLP projectors, the DBOX02 Pro does not achieve cinematic black levels, which is simply due to the technology and design. It is not as advanced as real OLED televisions.
The motion display is smooth and streak-free, which is particularly noticeable in fast action scenes and sports broadcasts. The Dangbei DBOX02 Pro is particularly interesting for gamers thanks to the HDMI 2.1 connections: 120 Hz is possible in native 4K resolution, and even up to 240 Hz at 1080p. The response time in gaming mode is between 10 and 20 ms.
Although this is not at the level of dedicated gaming projectors such as the BenQ TK700STi with its 4 ms, it is completely sufficient for most gamers and significantly better than many home entertainment projectors. An unusual advantage: the keystone correction also works in gaming mode, which is by no means standard for gaming projectors and ensures that you always get the best picture even in intense battles.
The audio quality also deserves high praise. The integrated 2×12-watt Harman Kardon speakers surprised me positively in the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro test. Of course, they are no substitute for a soundbar or even a surround system, but they are significantly better than many competitors. They create an immersive audio experience.
Dialogue sounds clear, the mid-range is balanced and the bass response is remarkably powerful by projector standards. The volume is easily sufficient for medium-sized rooms without sounding distorted or strained. If you still want to use external audio, you can easily connect additional devices via eARC, Bluetooth 5.2 or the jack output.
Dangbei DBOX02 Pro Review: Conclusion
After using the Dangbei DBOX02 Pro extensively, it’s easy for me to categorize it: this is a projector that is seriously suitable as a TV replacement. The combination of high brightness, effortless setup, real 4K sharpness and well thought-out suitability for everyday use makes it one of the most well-rounded solutions in the home entertainment sector.
Compared to the competition, the Xgimi Horizon Ultra is ahead in terms of black levels and Dolby Vision support, but costs almost twice as much and is more complex to set up. Although ultra-short-throw projectors offer deeper black levels and more cinematic picture quality, they require special screens and fixed installation.
The trade-offs are transparent: the black levels of the DBOX02 Pro are at a good level instead. However, no one should expect true OLED blacks. At maximum brightness, the fan is also clearly (and annoyingly) audible. Anyone looking for absolute portability will also not be happy with the almost 5 kg weight. But considering the overall performance, I can live with these limitations.
- Strong 4K picture
- High-quality finish
- Good speakers
- High frame rate
- Intuitive operation
- Reliable auto setup
- Modern connections
- Loud at maximum brightness
- Black levels only good
- Quite large and heavy

92/100
Compact 4K projector with excellent picture quality, intuitive operation, high frame rate and rich speakers that can easily replace your TV.
It is advisable to reduce the brightness to “9”. At max 10 I did not mind the fan, my piece sounds almost as loud, but the color has visibly shifted towards blue. It is also good to say that at “9” the projector’s power consumption is 110 watts. Because I like saturated colors, I increased the saturation to “65”. Overall, I am very satisfied for the price and can definitely recommend it.
