Dreame Pocket Neo 2 Review: 300 Grams with Plenty of Power Behind It

The Dreame Pocket Neo 2 is lightweight enough for travel, but our test will still have to show whether 1,300 watts and speeds of up to 70 m/s make it more than just a compact emergency hair dryer. According to the manufacturer, it weighs just 300 grams, can be folded into three different shapes, and comes with not only an anti-frizz nozzle but also two auto-wrap attachments. My review unit in Titanium Gold looks more like a compact styling gadget than a classic travel hair dryer. But is the power output sufficient, how practical is the folding design, and are the curling attachments more than just a nice gimmick for on the go?

The name “Pocket” fits like a glove

The most noticeable difference from a regular hair dryer isn’t so much the motor as it is the joint in the handle. The Pocket Neo 2 can be folded not just once, but into three different positions. Dreame refers to the N, 1, and 7 shapes: When folded, it’s as compact as possible; for normal blow-drying, the shape resembles a 7; and for the curling attachments, the handpiece can be straightened out.

At first, this sounds a bit like marketing hype for a hinge, but it makes perfect sense when you actually use it. When folded straight, the Neo 2 takes up considerably less space than a classic hair dryer with a fixed handle.

Weighing just 300 grams without the cord, it’s also exceptionally light. For me, though, the hinge itself is more interesting than the number on the scale. After all, this is the component that’s constantly under stress when folding the dryer in and out.

What’s Included: Dreame Keeps It Simple with the Pocket Neo 2 This Time

Compared to the large AirStyle sets with seven or eight attachments, the contents of the Pocket Neo 2 box seem almost sparse. Aside from the hair dryer, the bag contains only an anti-frizz nozzle and two auto-wrap attachments.

For a device that’s explicitly designed to take up minimal space, I don’t think this limitation is a bad thing at all. A diffuser, multiple brushes, and additional styling nozzles might look better on the spec sheet, but they’d also negate half the benefit of the pocket design.

Titanium Gold suits this little hair dryer quite well

Visually, the Pocket Neo 2 stands out clearly from typical travel hair dryers. My test unit comes in Titanium Gold, which makes it look more like a smaller version of the larger Dreame stylers. The design is understated but not boring, and the comparatively slim handle complements its light weight well.

Dreame also sticks to a simple concept when it comes to the attachments. They attach magnetically to the air outlet, so there’s no need to screw or unlock anything when switching them out.

5 modes, but no clutter of buttons

When it comes to operation, Dreame keeps the Pocket Neo 2 relatively straightforward. Two airflow settings are available, along with five temperature options: cool air, warm air, hot air, an alternating hot/cool cycle, and instant cool air.

The latter is particularly useful for the curling attachments. A preheated strand of hair can be cooled immediately before being removed from the attachment. The alternating hot/cold mode, on the other hand, is intended more for normal drying when you don’t want to use a high temperature continuously.

Dreame Pocket Neo 2 Review: How Does the Hair Dryer Perform in Real Life?

Small and lightweight is nice, but it’s only of limited help to me with a hair dryer if I end up standing in front of the mirror for what feels like an eternity afterward. My thick head of hair is therefore a pretty good stress test. My thick head of hair is therefore a pretty good stress test for the advertised 70 m/s. And indeed, the little Neo 2 feels significantly more powerful when drying than you’d expect from a classic travel hair dryer.

70 m/s from a 300-gram hair dryer

For the first round, I start with freshly washed and towel-dried hair. I skip using any attachments at first and simply let the Pocket Neo 2 show what it can do on its own.

Dreame itself claims it can dry short hair in about 40 seconds. My hair is obviously not the right test case for that. For me, it took about 3 to 4 minutes until it was mostly dry. Given the amount of hair I have, that’s still an impressive result and practically on par with a standard high-speed hair dryer. As a result, the small Neo 2 feels much less like a travel hair dryer than its size would suggest.

The anti-frizz nozzle turns the travel hair dryer into a mini styler

The included anti-frizz nozzle is the attachment for smoother lengths and less flyaway hair. It concentrates and directs the airflow more precisely than the open-air setting, making it ideal for finishing touches.

It works really well on my hair. Especially on the top layer of hair, you can clearly feel as you run the nozzle over it how it smooths the strands and visibly tames flyaways. The effect isn’t just visible in a direct comparison—you can actually feel it while using it. That’s why I think the anti-frizz nozzle is a really cool tool.

Auto-Wrap—of all things—on a small travel hair dryer

The other two attachments make the Pocket Neo 2 more interesting than a standard compact hair dryer. As with the AirStyle, a strand of hair is drawn toward the cylinder by the airflow and automatically wrapped around it. To change the direction, you’ll need to switch the attachment.

This time, the difference lies in the device itself. For Auto-Wrap, the Pocket Neo 2 is positioned completely straight. This transforms the classic hair dryer shape into an elongated styling tool that’s much easier to hold naturally while wrapping.

For this test, I worked some curling gel into my still-damp hair. With my rather thick hair, this really helps with hold. Auto-Wrap works very well with the Pocket Neo 2, though it takes a little practice to get the hang of it. Especially at first, you have to get a feel for how close the strand should be to the attachment and how to hold the device while doing so. Once you get the hang of it, the airflow reliably wraps the hair around the attachment. With my hair type, the waves turn out rather soft but hold much better with curling gel.

The three shapes are actually quite useful

After several uses, the joint is more than just a nice little feature for me. For normal blow-drying, I use the Pocket Neo 2 in its classic “7” shape; for Auto-Wrap, however, it’s much easier to maneuver. When fully folded, it really shows off its true advantage and takes up surprisingly little space in your bag.

The straight “1” shape does take some getting used to at first, though, because the heavier dryer head is offset to the side above the handle. As a result, the balance feels different at first compared to a classic styler. After a short adjustment period, though, this hardly gets in the way while styling and doesn’t detract from the design’s practicality.

So you won’t be constantly switching between all three positions. But each one serves a clear purpose—and that’s exactly why the folding design feels less gimmicky in everyday use than it might sound at first.

Just how travel-friendly is the Pocket Neo 2 really?

When it comes to weight, Dreame gets a lot right. 300 grams is light for a hair dryer, and when folded, the Neo 2 takes up significantly less space than a device with a fixed handle. The included pouch also keeps the dryer and the three attachments together.

There is one thing to keep in mind when planning a trip, however: Dreame specifies the Pocket Neo 2 for 220 to 240 volts at 50/60 Hz. The manufacturer does not mention a switchable dual-voltage mode. This isn’t a problem for travel within many European countries, but for countries with different mains voltages, you should check beforehand. After all, a simple plug adapter doesn’t change the mains voltage.

For me, this is an important factor to consider when evaluating a hair dryer that’s explicitly designed for travel. The Pocket Neo 2 is undoubtedly small enough to fit in a suitcase—but that doesn’t mean you should plug it into just any outlet worldwide without a second thought.

Noise Level and Temperature During Drying: The Dreame Pocket Neo 2 in the Test

The Pocket Neo 2 is pleasantly lightweight yet feels surprisingly powerful when blow-drying. At the highest air setting, you can even feel the airflow slightly in your hand because the small hair dryer works slightly against your own movement. This doesn’t make it unwieldy—rather, you quickly realize that there’s a lot of power packed into its roughly 300 grams. This became quite clear when I set it down: on the highest setting, the Pocket Neo 2 moved a bit on its own on the surface.

Despite this power, the sound remains pleasant. My dog had never been blow-dried before, but she was surprisingly relaxed when I introduced her to the Pocket Neo 2. To me, too, the sound isn’t particularly shrill or intrusive.

The Neo 2 is similarly unobtrusive when it comes to temperature. The NTC sensor regulates the heat in the background, while the individual settings are clearly distinguishable. Even during extended use, it didn’t get uncomfortably hot for me. Overall, this fits well with the character of this small hair dryer: high airflow, light weight, and yet pleasantly controllable.

Is that a lot of money for a travel hair dryer?

According to the MSRP, the Pocket Neo 2 costs 129 euros, making it significantly more expensive than the small foldable hair dryers you can find for a few euros in almost any electronics store. However, Dreame doesn’t intend to compete with those models on a technical level. Its motor power, airflow, and Auto-Wrap feature position the Neo 2 more as a compact, high-speed hair dryer with a few styling capabilities.

The question of price therefore depends heavily on why you’re buying it. If you only plan to take a hair dryer on vacation twice a year, 129 euros is harder to justify. On the other hand, if you travel frequently, prefer a compact device at home, and actually use the curling attachments, you’ll get much more than just a basic travel hair dryer.

Dreame Pocket Neo 2 or Pocket Pro 2?

The Neo 2 isn’t the only model in Dreame’s new Pocket series. Above it sits the Pocket Pro 2. Both models weigh around 300 grams, can be folded into three positions, and feature a motor with up to 110,000 rpm and an airflow of up to 70 m/s. The main difference lies in the accessories.

If you don’t need the diffuser or the additional styling nozzle anyway, the Neo 2 gives you the essential technology for 40 euros less. The Pro 2, on the other hand, is the more interesting option for anyone who wants more styling options on the go. Conclusion on the Dreame Pocket Neo 2

The Pocket Neo 2 captures the essence of a travel hair dryer quite well: it’s lightweight, folds down small, and comes without a bunch of unnecessary extras. At the same time, with 1,300 watts, an airflow of up to 70 m/s, and the two Auto-Wrap attachments, it offers significantly more than a typical small hotel hair dryer.

I think the three attachments are well-chosen for this concept. The anti-frizz nozzle complements regular blow-drying with a more precise finish, while the Auto-Wrap feature lets you create soft waves on the go without having to pack a separate styler. However, if you need a diffuser and an additional styling nozzle, you’ll have to opt for the more expensive Pocket Pro 2.

At 129 euros, the Pocket Neo 2 is, of course, significantly more expensive than a standard travel hair dryer. In return, you’re not getting a shrunken-down standard hair dryer, but a device that remains unusually compact when packed and still offers a range of styling options. The only downside is that it’s limited to 220 to 240 volts—which means that, ironically, on long-distance trips, this little Dreame isn’t easily usable everywhere. For travel within Europe and as a compact hair dryer for home use, however, I find the concept quite sound.
