Dreame SF25 Review: Pricey organic bin space-saver

With the Dreame SF25 food waste disposer, the manufacturer Dreame is launching a kitchen appliance that processes organic kitchen waste directly in the household. The aim of the appliance is not only to shred food waste in order to prevent overfilled organic waste garbage cans. As the waste is dried at the same time, the risk of unpleasant odours is also minimized. In the Dreame SF25 test, we took a closer look at this expensive kitchen helper.

Dreame SF25 Review: design and workmanship

There is no doubt that the Dreame SF25 food waste disposer is an expensive kitchen gadget. But you can feel this immediately when you lift the appliance out of the packaging. The SF25 makes a very high-quality impression. It doesn’t crack or creak at any point. The high material quality is underlined by the weight of 8 kg.

Despite the high weight, Dreame has opted for a slim, compact housing which, thanks to the neutral beige color scheme and modern design, should blend in well in pretty much any kitchen. There is a transparent viewing window on the top through which you can watch the SF25 at work. Thanks to the high-quality coating on the inside, the window does not mist up.

For an additional overview, the SF25 has an LED display on the top. Here you can see, among other things, how long the current shredding process will continue. The touch-sensitive, illuminated controls are intuitively illustrated and easy to reach. Personally, however, I would have preferred physical buttons.

After all, the keys on the SF25 sometimes react somewhat unreliably when your fingers are wet. Inside is a three-blade system that is used in the shredding process. The inlet for an activated carbon filter is located at the back of the appliance. This is designed to ensure that no unpleasant odors escape from the container. The filter can be easily rinsed under running water.

Dreame SF25 Review: Shredder for the patient

Before we throw the first waste into the gullet of the kitchen gadget, let’s first clarify how the SF25 works. This is quickly explained. In a way, the shredder is a support for your waste garbage can, which is intended for organic waste. This means that food scraps are first thrown into the SF25 and not into the organic waste. There they are then shredded with the help of a three-blade system that offers a full 750 watts of power.

Dreame SF25 Test

The whole process is done simply by pressing a button. During the shredding process, the SF25 dries the waste. It could hardly be more convenient, as everything happens fully automatically at the touch of a button. For the test, my vegetable waste from cooking didn’t end up in the organic waste for once, but first in the SF25. In addition to potato peelings, I also threw in a bell pepper stalk and eggshells and started the process. I could see through the viewing window how the leftovers were shredded.

In my test run with potato peelings, it took 6 hours

As the three-blade system moves quite slowly, the process also takes some time. It took a total of 6 hours to dry the potato peelings. As the appliance works independently, this naturally does not mean any loss of convenience for the user. However, the SF25 also requires electricity to do its job. According to Dreame, the consumption per use is just under 0.56 kWh per use.

Dreame SF25 Review: Great result and easy maintenance

The device is operated using the touch-sensitive buttons on the top of the device. However, there is no app. I didn’t miss it, but I can well imagine that some people would like to follow the whole thing remotely. Once the device is finished, you can take a closer look at the impressive end result. And this is really impressive.

Even harder residues such as egg shells or bell pepper stalks were reliably shredded. If you then look at the result in comparison to the original leftovers, the benefits of the SF25 become clear. It significantly reduces the volume of your waste. So if you are struggling with a notoriously full organic waste garbage can, this may be an effective solution to the problem.

We used potato peelings, among other things, for the test

The reduced volume is not only due to the chopping process, but also to the drying process. Dreame uses an activated charcoal filter to ensure that no unpleasant odors arise in the long term. This works absolutely reliably, so I couldn’t detect any unpleasant odors. I would also like to emphasize the low operating volume.

Potato peelings after 6 hours of chopping and drying

The appliance operates at just under 27 dB, which means you can sometimes forget that the SF25 is even working. You’ll gladly put up with the hours of drying time. But what about cleaning? Even though Dreame has fitted the SF25 with an activated charcoal filter, odors can naturally arise after a while. After all, this is still food.

The 2.5 liter bucket can be easily removed for emptying

Regular cleaning is essential to prevent this from happening in the first place. But don’t worry: it’s not only child’s play, it’s also done quickly. The container for the shredded food waste can be easily removed and cleaned under running water. The same applies to the activated charcoal filter, which only needs to be replaced every 6 months or so. With the special cleaning program, you can even pour water into the container and let it heat up. In a way, the SF25 cleans itself.

Conclusion

The Dreame SF25 is clearly aimed at users who want to dispose of their organic waste in a more convenient, cleaner and space-saving way – and are prepared to dig deep into their pockets to do so. In the test, the food waste disposer impressed above all with its high-quality workmanship, sophisticated design and simple, fully automatic operation. From the first touch to daily use, the appliance makes a clear premium impression, and the SF25 scores with excellent shredding and drying results in everyday use. Even hard food waste such as eggshells are reliably processed and the volume of waste is significantly reduced. In combination with the effective activated charcoal filter, odors are kept to a minimum, which is a great advantage, especially in smaller kitchens.

The appliance also works extremely quietly, making it barely noticeable even over several hours. However, the long program duration and the comparatively high energy consumption during daily use should be criticized. The touch-sensitive buttons also do not always respond reliably, especially with wet fingers. An app connection is also missing, even if it was not necessarily missed in the test. The biggest catch, however, remains the high price. With an RRP of just under 400 euros, the Dreame SF25 is undoubtedly a luxury kitchen appliance that should be carefully considered. However, if you regularly have to deal with an overflowing organic waste garbage can, value hygiene, convenience and quiet operation and are not afraid of the price, the Dreame SF25 is an extremely effective and convenient food waste disposer that reliably fulfills its purpose.
