Not included as standard, but available separately, are an odor inhibitor for the dirty water tank and an additional, replaceable battery. Setup takes just a few minutes: attach the handle to the main unit, place the charging station in a suitable location with a power outlet, and you’re done. Unlike many robot vacuums, you don’t need to go through a complicated initial setup via an app—the mopping vacuum is practically ready to go as soon as it’s unboxed. You just need to fill the fresh water tank once before the first use and add the cleaning solution according to the instructions.

Design and Build Quality of the Dreame T16 Pro Heat

In its basic layout, Dreame sticks to the classic mop-and-vacuum design. The handle is at the top, the main unit—including the motor, dirty water tank, and display—is in the middle, and the cleaning unit with the fresh water tank and cleaning roller is at the bottom. However, Dreame has omitted the practical nozzle on the cleaning unit that is now standard on some of the competition’s flagship mop vacuums. Unlike many other mop vacuums, though, the T16 Pro Heat is extremely slim.

Thanks to a height of just 9.85 cm, the T16 Pro Heat glides into spaces that are inaccessible to many other mop vacuums. Combined with its 180° design—which allows the mop vacuum to lie flat on the floor—it can even reach under low sofas or sideboards. One slight drawback: You won’t find any LED lighting on the front of the T16 Pro Heat to illuminate dark corners or the area under furniture.

The main unit weighs about 6.2 kilograms and measures 275 x 270 x 1,170 mm. Together with the charging station, it adds a few more centimeters in height. In your hand, the T16 Pro Heat feels like a high-quality product, just as you’d expect from Dreame’s premium devices.

The materials feel high-quality, the gaps and seams on the housing are neatly finished, and nothing creaks or feels flimsy. A GlideWheel system on the rear wheels handles propulsion. Intelligent algorithms control the wheels so that pushing and pulling should feel noticeably easier than with purely passively rolling mop-and-vacuum cleaners.

This is a crucial comfort feature that really makes a difference with mopping robots that have a full water tank, especially when mopping larger areas in one go. The charging station itself, measuring 322 x 359 x 1,236 millimeters, is compact enough to fit even in smaller hallways or kitchens without taking up too much space.

Features and Operation

At the heart of the edge cleaning system is the so-called WhaleSweep AI robot arm, which, according to Dreame, represents the latest generation of the company’s proprietary robot arm technology. It extends automatically as soon as the mopping vacuum reaches an edge or corner, allowing it to reach dirt that a rigid mopping roller would otherwise miss.

With a 17-mm stroke, the arm is designed to work significantly more effectively than Dreame’s previous solutions. While the first generation used only a rigid dual-edge brush and the second generation (GapFree) offered a 7 mm stroke, the WhaleSweep arm is designed to reliably capture even larger particles in corners. Two additional scrapers on the arm are also designed to prevent water spots or streaks from forming.

To detect the level of dirt, Dreame relies on multispectral sensors, which, according to the manufacturer, are five times more sensitive than the thermal detection used in older models or the blue-light detection used by other manufacturers. Depending on the detected level of dirt, the T16 Pro Heat automatically adjusts suction power, water volume, and cleaning solution dosage—both during mopping and during self-cleaning at the docking station.

The device can be controlled either directly via the handle, via voice commands in multiple languages, or through the DreameHome app. In addition to custom cleaning settings, you can also set reminders for replacing filters and wear parts in the app.

An LED display on the device itself shows the battery level, current mode, and status in real time, so you don’t necessarily have to reach for your smartphone for basic operation. I have to admit, though, that I was a little disappointed with the display. After all, on previous Dreame models, it was always significantly larger and, as a result, much easier to read.

Hot Water Against Grease and Edges

The T16 Pro Heat’s key feature is the ThermoRinse function, which continuously flushes the mopping roller with water heated to up to 90 °C. The idea behind it: Cold mopping water often just spreads grease across the floor, while hot water dissolves it directly, and the 30,000 Pa suction power immediately picks up the dissolved liquid along with the dirt.

In test scenarios involving butter, cream, oil, and sauce, Dreame claims to have achieved complete stain removal. In practice, kitchen floors in particular benefit from this approach. After all, experience shows that oil, butter, and other grease stains tend to accumulate there. In practice, this worked really well.

Stubborn grease stains were removed without leaving any residue. But the hot-water method also pays off with other stubborn stains. In testing, the T16 Pro Heat passed all my challenges with flying colors. For extremely dried-on stains, you do have to go over them several times, but that’s not a big deal.

Comparable hot-water wet-vacuum cleaners from Dreame’s own lineup, such as the H15 Pro Heat (Review | € 399.00 *), our previous tests have already shown impressive results for everyday cleaning. On smooth hard floors such as tiles or sealed hardwood, hardly any streaks or water residue remained.

Nearly perfect edge cleaning

Edge cleaning performance was good depending on the test situation, but it wasn’t perfect. This is exactly where the T16 Pro Heat’s new WhaleSweep arm is designed to outperform older Dreame models. It’s clear that the new arm performs better than previous generations. Nevertheless, I occasionally noticed that the rubber lip left visible streaks in some spots.

This could become a minor issue, especially on glossy tiles, for very demanding users. However, many individual factors always play a major role here. In addition to water volume, water pressure, and flooring type, the level of limescale in the water is certainly a key factor here. Personally, I was completely satisfied with the cleaning results.

For households with pets—in my case, two long-haired cats—it’s also interesting to see how reliably pet hair is picked up without getting tangled in the roller. Here, Dreame relies on a dual-scraper system that includes an elastic TangleCut 2.0 scraper, which is designed to continuously remove hair from the roller while mopping.

According to the manufacturer, this system is supposed to almost completely prevent hair from getting tangled. In similar Dreame models with comparable anti-tangle systems, this approach has so far proven quite reliable in practice—even after several passes with large amounts of hair, the roller on the T16 Pro Heat remained largely free of hair.

Battery Life and Maintenance

Dreame specifies up to 70 minutes of runtime for the T16 Pro Heat in Eco mode, which is said to be sufficient for about 500 square meters. If you mop continuously with hot water, the runtime naturally drops significantly—the manufacturer lists only 22 minutes in this case, since heating and maintaining the water’s temperature require additional energy. In practice, this figure turns out to be very optimistic. For me, runtime in hot mode was more like 15 to 20 minutes.

In my opinion, however, this is perfectly sufficient, since using the hot water mode is the exception rather than the rule. Convenient: The 5,000 mAh battery can be completely removed. Replacing it takes just a few simple steps. If you have an optional second battery, you can continue working immediately without interrupting your cleaning, while the empty battery charges separately.

According to Dreame, it takes about four hours to fully charge a battery. After cleaning, the charging station takes over maintenance: The roller is washed with water at 95 °C and then dried with equally hot air. According to TÜV test data cited by Dreame, the self-cleaning process is said to kill a very high percentage of common germs and bacteria.

An optional odor inhibitor is designed to keep the dirty water tank fresh for up to 21 days, which is a useful extra, especially if you don’t empty it regularly. After the self-cleaning cycle, the roller looks like new and feels pleasantly fluffy. Accordingly, the self-cleaning system works exceptionally well.

Who is the T16 Pro Heat designed for?

The T16 Pro Heat is clearly aimed at households with mostly hard floors that regularly have to deal with stubborn, greasy, or dried-on dirt—such as in the kitchen, hallway, or for pet owners. Those with primarily carpeted floors will naturally benefit little from the hot water function and should instead opt for a traditional vacuum cleaner or robot vacuum. For very large living spaces that need to be mopped continuously with hot water, it’s also worth considering the optional second battery, given the 22-minute runtime in hot-water mode.

Price, Availability, and Competition

The Dreame T16 Pro Heat is now available for an MSRP of 629 euros via the official Dreame website and select retail partners. As is often the case with newly launched Dreame devices, it’s worth comparing prices before buying: Shortly after its market launch, identical models began appearing at other retailers at slightly different prices.
