Dreame X50 Ultra Complete test: design and workmanship

The Dreame X50 Ultra Complete is a real gem. We received our test model in white. Alternatively, the smart household helper is also available in elegant black. The combination of robot vacuum and all-in-one station reminds me strongly of other models from the manufacturer. The newcomer looks like a combination of the flagship Dreame L20 Ultra (Review | € 613.29 *) and the mid-range model Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 (Review | € 499.00 *).

While the rippled surface of the front of the station is reminiscent of the flagship model, the X50 borrows the rounded corners of the all-in-one station from the manufacturer’s mid-range vacuum cleaners. The robot hoover itself uses the classic circular shape. A look at the top side is exciting. Dreame has put the standard LiDAR tower in the limelight like no other manufacturer before it.

Firstly, the tower, which houses the technology required for navigation, comes with a stylish illuminated ring. In the test, this reminded me a little of the light ring of an Amazon Echo Dot with its pulsating light effects in different colors (€ 44.99 *). Another innovation: Dreame has simply placed the control buttons on the top of the tower, which enable rudimentary control of the household helper.

Here, the smart household helper can be started and stopped or sent back to the all-in-one station at the touch of a button. A maintenance flap on the top also gives you access to the inside of the vacuum cleaner. The integrated dust container, for example, can be removed here for easy maintenance.

The camera unit with LED, which is used for obstacle detection, is located at the front of the robot hoover. At the back are the charging contacts and the “tank hatch”, which is used to fill the robot’s integrated water tank. On the side, Dreame places the hatch through which the smart household helper’s dust container is vacuumed. The underside is reminiscent of conventional vacuum robots.

In addition to the two mop pads, the side brush and main brush are also located here. The latter comes in the form of a promising double brush. This reminds me of the brush on the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra (Review | € 749.99 *). However, while Roborock uses two solid rubber brushes, the Dreame uses one solid rubber brush and one brush with rubber blades and bristles.

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete Test: Exciting climbing capabilities

At first glance, not much has changed with the X50 Ultra Complete robot hoover. But if you take a closer look, it becomes clear that Dreame has implemented some exciting innovative ideas here. Firstly, the smooth running of the smart household helper. Dreame has opted for a wheel design that uses new shock absorbers to prevent annoying jerking.

dreame x50 ultra complete test

This ensures extremely quiet operation. In drive-only mode with the suction and wiping function deactivated, you can hardly hear the vacuum cleaner. Things get really exciting with the new ProLeap system. This involves two additional legs with small wheels located on the underside. With their help, the robot hoover can overcome obstacles up to 6 cm high.

Here the smart household helper starts to cross a high threshold and lifts its nose

The X50 lifts the extendable legs, which raises the nose so that it can easily cross higher thresholds. There should be no need to worry about the longevity of the innovative system. According to Dreame, 30,000 cycles should be possible. Dreame also shows its innovative spirit with the LiDAR tower.

This has not only been pimped up with control buttons and a light ring. The turret can also be lowered, which reduces the overall height to a low 89 mm. Dreame has thus skillfully eliminated the previous Achilles heel of models with LiDAR turrets. Many of them do not reach the area underneath flat furniture because they are too high.

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete test: Suction station with UV lighting

As befits a current flagship model, the Dreame X50 Ultra Complete also comes with a matching all-in-one station. And it has a lot to offer. Let’s start with the work during the cleaning process. The station has a fresh water tank that supplies the robot hoover’s integrated water tank with fresh water before the cleaning tour begins.

dreame x50 ultra complete test

In addition, the vacuum cleaner returns to the All-in-One station at regular intervals during cleaning. Here, the mop pads are rinsed thoroughly with water. This is not just to remove the collected dirt from the mops.

They are also briefly washed through so that dirt adhering to them is not spread across the floor. Extensive cleaning of the mop pads follows the end of the cleaning tour. Here, the pads are thoroughly cleaned in a hot water wash (80°C) and then dried with hot air.

The Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat (Review | € 822.82 *) has already proven how well this works. The procedure is sufficient to kill almost 100% of all bacteria and thus prevent the formation of unpleasant odors.

On top of this, Dreame also gives the mop pads UV exposure. The UV light is also used to open the 3.2 liter dust bag. The X50 Ultra Complete can also park its mop pads in the station if required.

This is particularly helpful when driving over carpets to prevent accidental moistening of the carpeting. The smart household helper also offers the AceClean Dryboard system to keep the parking lot or washboard of the station clean. A total of 20 spray nozzles with hot water ensure that dirt cannot build up in the first place.

To further intensify cleaning, the Dreame automatically adds cleaning agents to the fresh water. We are familiar with this principle from the Eufy S1 (Review | € 899.00 *) and the Eufy S1 Pro (Review | € 999.00 *). Given the extensive features of the AiO station, maintenance is extremely simple. According to Dreame, you only need to replace the dust bag with a new one every 100 days or so.

It is also up to you to regularly empty the dirty water tank and refill the fresh water tank. If you want to save yourself the work with the water tanks, you can also connect the smart household helper to the fixed water connection. It is then automatically supplied with fresh water and the dirty water is drained automatically.

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete test: Navigation and obstacle detection

The X50 Ultra Complete comes with state-of-the-art LiDAR navigation. The retractable laser tower enables detailed and fast mapping of your home. The results are more than impressive. In its 360-degree analysis, the Dreame not only scored points for speed, but also for accuracy of detail. After mapping, you can view the results in the app and edit them if necessary.

When it comes to obstacle detection, Dreame uses an RGB camera with structured 3D light. The images are analyzed with the help of AI, which Dreame calls AI Action. This enables the robot to recognize over 200 different objects. This also includes the droppings of pets. Speaking of pets. Even though many cats and dogs are anything but fans of robot hoovers, the X50 is very pet-friendly.

Cleaning at night? No problem thanks to the LED on the camera unit

The household helper not only automatically avoids people when it detects them. It also detects and avoids animals. What’s more, the robot’s low operating volume ensures less stress for four-legged friends. Another new feature is the pet search mode. This allows the X50 to search for pets if desired. Once the animal companion has been tracked down by the vacuum cleaner, a photo is sent to the user. The Robo can also be used as a mobile surveillance camera with its integrated camera.

Not only chair legs, but also small obstacles are skillfully avoided

The X50 Ultra’s obstacle detection performed well in the test. Even flat obstacles such as socks, exercise books or LEGO bricks were reliably detected. The vacuum cleaner even avoided flat cables. Here, the Dreame can easily keep up with a Narwhal Freo Z Ultra (Review | € 899.00 *) or a Samsung BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI Steam (Review | € 839.00 *).

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete Test: Dreame App

The Dreame app is one of the clearest software solutions on the entire robot hoover market. It is therefore hardly surprising that the Dreame X50 Ultra Complete also cut a fine figure in this respect.

The first step is to set it up. The X50 is first transferred to the home network. This is followed by the first mapping. Now you can make a variety of settings on the robot hoover and the suction station. This not only includes the suction and mopping performance.

You can also define no-go zones or invisible walls. And these are just a few examples. The app scores with a wide range of setting options. At no time do you lose the overview.

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete test: cleaning performance

Appearance, navigation and app operation may be important aspects when evaluating a robot hoover. However, the core competence of a good robot is and remains its cleaning performance. As the X50 Ultra Complete can not only vacuum, but also mop, we looked at suction and mopping performance separately.

Suction power

We already briefly mentioned the special double brush design in the design section. Roborock calls the technology “HyperStream Detangeling DuoBrush”. The combination of a rubber brush with bristles and a pure rubber brush is designed to clean both hard floors and carpets perfectly.

The rubber brush with bristles should ensure deep cleaning, especially on carpets. If hair gets tangled, it is combed out by the second brush, which rotates in the opposite direction. The concept worked excellently in the test.

As the owner of a dog that likes to shed a lot of hair, I have already pushed many a robot vacuum to its limits. This was by no means the case with the X50. Hair didn’t even get tangled up here. Dreame has given the Dreame a special carpet mode for carpeted floors.

This not only increases the suction power. With a maximum suction power of an impressive 20,000 Pascal, even long-pile carpets can be cleaned effectively. To increase the cleaning performance even further, the robot hoover moves more slowly on carpets and covers the area twice.

The extendable side brush ensures impressive corner cleaning

Dreame installs “SideReach” for extensive corner cleaning. This feature enables an extendable side brush. When the X50 reaches a corner, it quickly extends the arm with the side brush and removes the dirt from the corner area. This works just as well as with the Roborock Qrevo Master (Review | € 1,299.00 *).

Mopping performance

When it comes to wiping performance, Dreame models are among the best on the market. So I was all the more excited about the performance of the Dreame X50. And I was by no means disappointed. The Dreame can remove even stubborn stains from your hard floors – even from the edges.

This is made possible by the tried-and-tested MopExtend technology. Here, the robot vacuum simply extends its mop with an exit depth of 4 cm. This allows the smart household helper to mop along floor-to-ceiling furniture or skirting boards without leaving a dirty edge.

When the Dreame mops a carpet, it can quickly park the two mop pads in the All-in-One station. This prevents your carpets from getting damp. However, you don’t have to do this for short-pile carpets. After all, the X50 can raise its mopping pads by 10.5 mm so that they don’t touch the carpet at all.

Incidentally, the Dreame can lift more than just its mopping pads. Thanks to TripleUp Tech, the Robo can lift both the side brush and the main brush by up to 10 mm. The big advantage of this is not only that the main and side brushes do not leave streaks on damp floors during the mopping process.

What’s more, the brushes remain dry and do not soak up any liquids. This prevents unpleasant odors that can form in the dust bag when the dirt is damp. Settings for this and the other functions can be made in the app.

Conclusion

The Dreame X50 Ultra Complete sets new standards in the field of robot vacuum cleaners and mopping robots. With an impressive suction power of 20,000 Pascal and the innovative double brush design, it is particularly impressive on carpets and hard floors alike. Pet owners benefit from effective hair removal and powerful obstacle detection, which reliably avoids even flat objects such as cables or socks.

dreame x50 ultra complete test

A highlight is the ProLeap system, which allows the robot to climb obstacles up to 6 cm. The lowerable LiDAR navigation also makes it possible to clean under low furniture – a weak point of many competitor models. The comprehensive all-in-one station scores points with hot water and UV cleaning as well as a low-maintenance design that even supports a fixed water connection. The Dreame app rounds off the overall package: Intuitive to use and feature-rich, it allows you to adjust suction and mopping settings and create no-go zones.

dreame x50 ultra complete test

Combined with features such as MopExtend for edge areas and the ability to lift brushes and mop pads, the X50 Ultra Complete delivers a sophisticated and powerful performance. In short, the Dreame X50 Ultra Complete is a state-of-the-art robot vacuum that combines innovation with excellent cleaning performance and is particularly suitable for households with carpets and pets. Anyone looking for an uncompromising smart household helper will find the best robot vacuum on the market today.
