For years, Ecovacs has been one of the best-known manufacturers of vacuum and mopping robots—and with the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone, the company is unveiling its new flagship model. The robot was first unveiled to the public at CES 2026 in Las Vegas, and has been officially available in Germany since mid-April 2026. Anyone familiar with our review of the Ecovacs Deebot X11 OmniCyclone knows that Ecovacs has already taken a major step toward maximizing maintenance convenience with its bagless OmniCyclone technology. The X12 builds on this and adds an innovation that sets it apart from almost all competitors: an integrated FocusJet spray function that pre-treats stubborn stains with water before the mopping roller comes into play. Our test shows whether this really works as well in practice as Ecovacs promises, and where the robot has its limitations.

Design and Build Quality of the Ecovacs Deebot X12 OmniCyclone
Visually, the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone clearly draws inspiration from its predecessor’s design, but the darker color scheme gives it a more modern and high-quality look. The housing is cleanly finished and conveys the impression of a premium device. The most striking design feature is the two FocusJet nozzles on the front of the robot—they are functionally necessary but hardly noticeable visually. Right next to them are the sensors for navigation and obstacle detection.
Positive: By omitting a traditional LiDAR tower on the top, the robot maintains a height of 9.8 cm, which is beneficial when navigating under low furniture and is impressively slim for a device with a mopping roller. In our test, for example, it had no trouble fitting under a 10-cm-high coffee table. On the underside, in addition to the extendable OZMO ROLLER 3.0 mopping roller, there is also the main brush, for which Ecovacs uses a combination of traditional bristles and rubber.
The ZeroTangle 4.0 main brush is designed to actively direct hair toward the suction opening via a fan with a side airflow, thereby preventing tangles. Unfortunately, unlike the roller, the side brush is not extendable. We’ll address how this affects corner cleaning later. Joining the X12 OmniCyclone on the side is the eponymous OmniCyclone Station, which is also finished in elegant black and looks high-quality. With dimensions of 380 mm × 493 mm × 465 mm, however, it requires a sufficiently large space.
Nevertheless, thanks to its sleek design, it blends in quite well visually with the living room. The fresh and dirty water tanks can be easily removed and cleaned from the top. The front provides access to the dust bag and the cleaning solution tanks. Similar to the Dreame Matrix 10 Ultra, various cleaning agents can be used simultaneously here to enable customized floor care. The lower section houses the robot garage with a removable washing tray.
Setup and Commissioning
Setup is done via the Ecovacs HOME app, which is available for both Android and iOS. After setting up the station, plugging in the power cord, and placing the robot inside, you scan the QR code under the device cover—the app then guides you step by step through the setup process. This is quick and hassle-free. After pairing, the robot first performs a full mapping of the home. In the process, it automatically creates a floor plan of the premises. If this doesn’t fit, changes can be made via the app afterward.
Ecovacs App
The Ecovacs HOME app has a clear layout and offers a wide range of settings. After mapping, the generated map can be customized: for example, rooms can be merged, carpeted areas marked, virtual boundaries set, and furniture placed. The sensitivity of obstacle detection and edge detection can also be adjusted—handy if you have different needs in your daily routine.
If you don’t want to worry about the cleaning intensity, you can delegate the whole process to the AI. On board is the AI agent AGENT YIKO 2.0, which analyzes the living environment, evaluates usage habits, and automatically creates suitable cleaning schedules based on this data, while continuously optimizing suction power, water flow, and route guidance. In practice, YIKO 2.0 works reliably, but doesn’t seem fully mature yet. For instance, the suggested routes occasionally deviated from what one might have considered sensible.
Convenient voice control via popular smart assistant systems is also possible. The X12 OmniCyclone is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant, allowing for easy voice control. For those with a smart home system, this provides a flexible connection point.
Navigation and Obstacle Detection of the Ecovacs Deebot X12 OmniCyclone
For navigation, the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone relies on AIVI 3D 4.0 technology, which combines multidimensional sensors, an RGB camera, and dToF laser navigation. Route planning is systematic and anything but chaotic. Here, the Deebot always knows what step to take next and never seems confused or aimless. First, the robot scans the edges of the room, then works through the remaining area in even parallel paths.
This works flawlessly in open areas. Its dynamic driving style is striking: the X12 moves briskly through the apartment, but sometimes brakes and accelerates very abruptly. Occasionally, it stops briefly, scans its surroundings, and then continues on—this behavior is particularly noticeable in areas with a lot of furniture. For obstacle detection, the Ecovacs relies primarily on its RGB camera. Overall, the system leaves a decent, but not perfect, impression.
The robot reliably detects typical everyday items such as shoes, thicker cables, or even smaller objects. However, there were occasional collisions with very small or flat objects. This is a problem that Ecovacs can still resolve with future software updates. The TruePass system handles thresholds up to 2.4 cm—sufficient for many homes, but not a top-tier performance in the premium segment. For households with several higher door thresholds, this can be a limiting factor.
Suction power of the Ecovacs Deebot X12 OmniCyclone
The suction power of the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone looks solid on paper: 22,000 Pascals is a respectable figure in the premium range, even if many competing models in the flagship segment now advertise higher numbers. However, practical experience is far more important than impressive technical specifications. And here, the X12 OmniCyclone leaves a positive impression. This is especially true for cleaning on hard floors. Dust, crumbs, and other debris are reliably and thoroughly picked up.
In a stress test, I scattered a mixture of oatmeal, rice grains, and coffee beans on the floor. This debris was picked up almost entirely by the Ecovacs. The X12 also performs well with pet hair on smooth floors, with the ZeroTangle technology noticeably reducing tangling. On carpet, the results are equally impressive: fine dust and grains of sand are thoroughly vacuumed up.
On deep-pile carpets, however, performance drops slightly, and in some cases, hair even got tangled in the brush. For homes with mostly hard floors and occasional short-pile carpets, the X12 is still a very good choice. Owners of deep-pile carpets should keep these weaknesses in mind. Mopping performance of the Ecovacs Deebot X12 OmniCyclone
This is where the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone really shines. The 27 cm wide OZMO ROLLER 3.0 mopping roller covers a significantly larger area compared to the previous generation. According to the manufacturer, in pure mopping mode, the robot achieves twice the cleaning performance of its predecessor; in combined vacuuming and mopping mode, overlapping passes ensure particularly thorough results. Since we already liked the performance of the mopping roller on the X11, this didn’t really surprise me. I was much more excited about the FocusJet technology.
This is undoubtedly supposed to be the highlight of the smart household helper. Two nozzles on the front of the robot spray water or cleaning solution directly onto detected stains even before the mopping roller passes over them. Dried-on residue, coffee stains, or caked-on food scraps—all the things that traditional mopping robots often struggle with. In our test, this actually worked really well. The X12 not only wiped away fresh ketchup stains with ease.
Even when the stains had dried, it was able to remove them with virtually no residue. The pre-treatment is therefore noticeably effective even on stubborn dirt, clearly setting it apart from many competing models. Edge cleaning is also largely impressive. The TruEdge 3.0 technology, featuring an air-suspended roller and an extended reach of 2.58 cm, does a great job here. It ensures that the robot wipes quite effectively right along furniture edges and baseboards. However, dirt residue remains in corners and along edges, as the roller does not operate right up to the edge.
During carpet cleaning, the mop roller automatically lifts by 15 mm—an important feature for protecting carpets from moisture. While this may be sufficient for short-pile carpets, those with long-pile carpets should first let the X12 OmniCyclone vacuum the carpets and only then proceed to wet mopping. Base station
The OmniCyclone station is the technical heart of the entire system—and in many ways a real highlight. After each cleaning, it automatically performs several tasks: it empties the robot’s dustbin baglessly (PureCyclone 2.0 Auto-Empty technology), washes and dries the mopping roller with 63°C hot water, fills the robot’s internal water tank with fresh water, empties the dirty water tank, and automatically dispenses the cleaning solution. When it comes to hot-water cleaning, however, Ecovacs lags slightly behind the competition.
Other current flagship models, such as the Roborock Qrevo Curv 2 Pro, now rely on hot water cleaning at a full 100°C. Those with a penchant for sustainable technology will appreciate the station’s 1.6-liter dust bin. This container works entirely without a dust bag and, according to Ecovacs, lasts for about 48 days without needing to be emptied manually. The bagless design not only reduces waste but also ensures that there are no ongoing costs.
The fresh and dirty water tanks are easy to remove, clean, and reinstall. One small caveat: Both tanks—fresh and dirty water—should be rinsed regularly, as residue can build up otherwise. However, this is standard for all devices in this class. Conclusion on the Ecovacs Deebot X12 OmniCyclone
The Ecovacs Deebot X12 OmniCyclone is an impressive device that particularly stands out for its mopping performance and innovative FocusJet spray function. If you regularly struggle with stubborn stains in your home, this is a tool that truly delivers in this area. Add to that the convenient and low-maintenance OmniCyclone station, which makes daily use significantly more pleasant than with bagged systems. The suction power is solid, navigation works reliably, and the app offers enough flexibility for customization. On the other hand, there are a few things you should be aware of.
The maximum climbing height of 2.4 cm is below average for a device in this price range. The AI features and obstacle detection deliver good performance, but they haven’t yet reached the perfect flagship level. And on high-pile carpet, weaknesses become apparent in both suction power and the issue of hair tangling. Furthermore, in our view, the high price of the Deebot X12 OmniCyclone is not justified.
