Scope of delivery

  • contains one active speaker and one passive speaker
  • a USB-C cable, a 3.5 mm jack cable, a 3.5 mm jack to RCA cable and two speaker stands are also included

The Edifier M60s are delivered in a white cardboard box. On two of the four sides of the box, features such as Hi-Res Audio and LDAC (Hi-Res Audio Wireless) are listed alongside pictures of the speakers. The other two pages list further features and the technical data.

The box contains the speakers, the speaker stands and a smaller box with additional accessories. In addition to a speaker connection cable, a power cable and a user manual, the small box also contains a USB-C cable, a 3.5 mm jack cable and a 3.5 mm jack to RCA cable for connecting devices. The scope of delivery is very extensive overall.

Design and workmanship

  • Small dimensions
  • Very attractive design
  • Very good material quality and workmanship

The active loudspeaker and the passive loudspeaker are visually identical except for the back. In the oak color variant, the front and rear of the speakers are black, while the other sides are oak. The black front has a high-quality appearance. However, the oak-colored sides appear less high-quality up close, as the surface looks very artificial. In the black and white color variants, the speakers are completely in the selected color.

The front of the Edifier M60 is almost completely black, with the gold Edifier logo below the mid-woofers providing a contrast. The mid-woofers have a diameter of 3″ (76 mm) and use almost the entire 100 mm width of the cabinet, the tweeters above have a diameter of 1″ (25 mm).

The rear of the Edifier M60 is black and has a bass reflex port at the top. The inputs, the output for the connection to the passive loudspeaker and the power connection are located underneath the active loudspeaker. There is no on/off switch or output for a subwoofer. In addition, two logos indicate support for Hi-Res Audio and LDAC (Hi-Res Audio Wireless). On the passive speaker, only the output for the connection to the active speaker is located under the bass reflex port.

The other sides, which are oak-colored in our color variant, are monochrome. There are three illuminated touch buttons on the top of the active speaker for operating the speakers. There are four rubber feet on the underside of each speaker.

Despite their small dimensions, the Edifier M60s weigh 3.07 kg, i.e. ~1.5 kg per speaker, making them significantly heavier than cheaper speakers. Edifier uses plastic for the material. The material quality and workmanship of the speakers are very good, apart from the very artificial-looking surface of the oak color variant.

Operation and setting options

  • Operation via illuminated touch buttons
  • Edifier ConneX app enables further settings

The Edifier M60 can be operated via three illuminated touch buttons on the active speaker. The illumination of the touch buttons is activated when you approach the top of the speaker. A long press on the on/off button switches the speakers on and off, while a short press changes the source. The color of the on/off button also indicates the selected source. Further actions are performed using gestures, although these are not clearly described in the operating instructions. Swiping from left to right and from right to left changes the track, while placing your hand on the speaker pauses or resumes playback.

The Edifier ConneX app is available in English for smartphones. The app displays the paired Edifier devices and enables further settings. The source, sound effects and volume can be adjusted on the start page of the app. In the other settings, you can adjust the codec and the lighting and sensitivity of the touch buttons, among other things.

Practical test and sound quality of the Edifier M60

  • Wired and wireless connections possible
  • Very good operation via the illuminated touch buttons

Pairing and connecting the Edifier M60 worked quickly and reliably in the test, and the connection was stable even across several rooms within buildings. The wired connections and changing the source also worked quickly and reliably.

The operation of the Edifier M60 via the touch buttons was convincing in the test. The position of the buttons is clearly visible thanks to the status LED, which also indicates the selected source. The illumination of the buttons is activated quickly and is sufficiently bright. Thanks to the simple press and gesture control, the speakers are very easy to operate despite the small number of buttons.

The Edifier ConneX app enables further settings such as adjusting the sound effects or selecting the codec. The speakers can also be switched off via the app, but unlike the Edifier WH950NB headphones we recently tested (our review), scheduled switch-off after a set period of time is not supported. The scope of the app’s settings for the speakers is rather limited overall.

Playback quality

  • Balanced, natural and detailed sound
  • the bass could sometimes be more powerful with rock music and games …
  • … but is more powerful than expected for the small dimensions

The sound of the Edifier M60 is very good despite its small dimensions and is convincing in the test. Overall, the sound is balanced, natural and rich in detail, with clean reproduction of both high and low frequencies at medium and high volumes. The low frequencies are more powerful than expected, but the low volume of the speakers becomes clear at higher volumes.

In our opinion, the speakers are very suitable for desktop and music playback. The music sounds very good and very dynamic overall, also due to the rather short distance, and the bass and volume are sufficient. The speakers are suitable for all music genres, although the bass could be more powerful for rock music. At greater distances and higher volumes, the low volume becomes apparent again.

The speakers are also impressive when playing games. The sound is natural and rich in detail, voices are very easy to understand and effects are easy to locate. With certain effects such as explosions, the bass could sometimes be more powerful. An additional subwoofer or an output for a subwoofer would be desirable here.

The sound in the sound effects can be adjusted to your own preferences via the app. In addition to the neutral monitor mode and the other, more dynamic modes for music, films and games, you can also adjust the equalizer yourself.

Edifier M60 test: Conclusion

Overall, the Edifier M60 proved to be a very good active-passive speaker combination in the test. We rated the very good, balanced, natural and detailed sound and features such as the wireless connection and LDAC (Hi-Res Audio Wireless) as positive despite the small dimensions. In addition to the very good sound, the speakers also offer a very appealing design as well as very good material quality and workmanship. Operation via the illuminated touch buttons was also impressive in the test.

On the negative side, we rated the very artificial-looking surface of the oak color variant. Beyond that, there are only minor points of criticism considering the size. The bass of the speakers could be more powerful in places and there is no output for an additional subwoofer.
