Edifier T5 Review: design and workmanship
- elegant design
- Impeccable workmanship
- All cables included
The Edifier T5 comes to your home safely packed in a bulky cardboard box. In addition to the subwoofer itself, the manufacturer includes two different cables: an RCA-to-RCA cable and a 3.5 mm RCA audio cable, thanks to which you can operate the woofer with almost all audio sources. A mains cable and the obligatory operating instructions round off the scope of delivery.
Visually, the T5 makes quite an impression and, with its black MDF wood look, fits perfectly into a cozy living room ambience as well as in office or gaming environments. There is a glossy plastic air outlet on the side, while rubber feet on the underside ensure a secure stand. With a size of 278 mm x 300 mm x 336 mm, it is also not too bulky, but weighs an impressive 8.56 kg.
The pleasantly grippy housing is framed at the front by a silver frame, which provides a harmonious accent. There is also a fabric cover with the manufacturer’s logo, which can be easily removed if required. In addition to its harmonious design, the Edifier T5 also impresses with its outstanding build quality.
Connections and commissioning
- simple commissioning
- Versatile connectivity
- practical rotary controls
The Edifier T5’s connections are all located at the rear. Two RCA ports are available here in addition to the connection for the mains cable. In addition to the power switch, you will also find the controls and a status LED at the rear.
Connecting the T5 is child’s play. The subwoofer can be connected to devices that have a subwoofer connection. Here you use the 3.5 mm to RCA cable. Alternatively, if your soundbar, speakers or TV set does not have such a port, use the RCA-to-RCA cable to connect the woofer to the source via the left-hand connections and to the soundbar or speakers via the right-hand connections.
And that’s it: connect the power, switch on and you’re ready to go. Sound adjustments can be made using the controls on the back. Edifier offers two rotary controls here:
The one on the left (“Volume dial”) regulates the volume of the woofer, while the one on the right (“L.P.F.”) adjusts the low-pass filter. While the first control adjusts the volume of the subwoofer itself (in relation to the overall sound including speakers), the low-pass filter can be used to adjust the volume and width of the bass. A value of around 100-120 Hz is recommended here in the test (i.e. quite far to the right on the dial), with which I was able to achieve the best results.
To level the sound of the Edifier T5 perfectly, you have to play a little with both controls and adjust them so that the bass doesn’t overpower the other frequencies, but doesn’t drown them out either. But don’t worry: once this value has been found, nothing else needs to be adjusted.
There is also a “Phase selection” control at the rear, which can be used to adjust the orientation either at 0° or 180°. This makes it possible to align the output of the subwoofer with that of the main speaker. You use this switch when you have the T5 in the position in which you want to use it. Then simply decide which of the two settings sounds better.

The Edifier T5 has an output of a full 70 watts and a frequency response of 38 Hz to 160 Hz. That’s plenty of oomph to provide even smaller speakers with a powerful bass foundation.
Once connected, the T5 is also extremely powerful – at least if you have set everything correctly using the two rotary controls. In terms of sound, the whole thing is pretty impressive, not only because of the comparatively low price, but also the manageable size.
The bass reproduction of the T5 is extremely precise and detailed, even down into the low bass segment. Even at quite low volumes, the sound of music, games or movies and series can be noticeably expanded and improved. That really blew me away.
At high volumes, it is no problem to make the entire interior dance along. Despite “only” 70 watts of power, the Edifier T5 is extremely powerful. It really blows you away. Thanks to the stepless adjustment, the acoustic presentation can also be quickly and easily adapted to the content. For example, more low bass for rock music and movies, but less for games and acoustic music. An excellent solution.
The price-performance ratio is particularly impressive in my eyes. In combination with fairly “cheap” speakers – in my case the Edifier Studio R1280DB, which cost around 100 euros – an impressive sound stage can be created that plays well above its price class and doesn’t have to hide from 2.1 sound systems costing 400-500 euros.

Edifier T5 Review: Conclusion
The Edifier T5 is a pretty impressive subwoofer at an extremely attractive price. Despite its compact dimensions and “only” 70 watts of power, it produces an incredibly detailed and lively bass that greatly enhances the sound of even inexpensive speakers or soundbars.
The subwoofer feels particularly at home in small and medium-sized rooms up to 30 or 40 square meters and delivers more than enough reserves.
The infinitely adjustable volume and low-pass filter deserve special praise, allowing the sound to be perfectly adapted to your own preferences (and preferences). The simple yet elegant design is also pleasing. If you want to take your home cinema or gaming sound to the next level, the Edifier T5 is the perfect choice.
