Eufy S1 test: Is the slimmed-down version also convincing?

In early summer 2024, Anker launched the Eufy S1 Pro (Review | € 1,149.00 *), a genuine flagship in the field of robot hoovers. It did a few things differently to the competition. In addition to a column-shaped all-in-one station, which features Eco-Clean ozone disinfection, the manufacturer did not use a mop pad or mop surface. Instead, the smart household helper uses a wide cleaning roller. However, the extensive features naturally come at a price. Anker is therefore launching a slimmed-down version of the vacuum cleaner to appeal to price-conscious buyers. In the Eufy S1 test, we find out whether the household helper is convincing despite its reduced features.

Eufy S1 vs. Eufy S1 Pro

Before we get down to business, let’s first clarify the differences between the Eufy S1 and the Pro model. After all, you have to make a few compromises for the significantly lower price. Firstly, there is the Eco-Clean ozone disinfection. The Eufy S1 Pro subjects the water in the fresh water tank to an ozone treatment, which is designed to kill bacteria in the water before the cleaning process.

The Eufy S1 does not feature water disinfection using ozone

In Germany, the usefulness of this feature has to be questioned anyway. After all, German tap water is known for its cleanliness. Subsequent disinfection is therefore not really necessary. In my practical test, the feature scored more with its stylish swirling effects in the fresh water tank than with a stronger cleaning performance.

The Eufy S1 also lacks the 3D Matrix Eye

Anker has also dispensed with a display on the all-in-one station. However, the practical control buttons remain on the station. But it’s not just the station that differs. The new basic version of the robot hoover itself is also slightly different to the Pro model. For example, Anker has removed the 3D Matrix Eye feature from the Eufy S1. We will of course also check whether this results in noticeably poorer obstacle detection or is barely noticeable.

Eufy S1 test: Familiar look

Visually, the Eufy S1 hardly differs from the Pro model. The Anker subsidiary has once again opted for a modern color combination of black and grey. While the competition in the field of robot hoovers primarily relies on a circular design, Eufy takes a different approach. The smart household helper comes in a square shape with rounded corners. This is primarily intended to ensure better corner cleaning.

The top of the Eufy also differs from other flagships. It lacks the LiDAR turret that is standard in the industry. This enables a low overall height of 9.6 cm. However, Eufy has by no means dispensed with laser-based navigation technology. Instead, the Anker subsidiary has placed the necessary technology on the front. This is also where the LED and RGB camera are located, which are used for obstacle detection.

The integrated water tank is located at the rear. You can’t reach it easily – but you don’t have to. After all, the all-in-one station refills the fresh water tank automatically. The dirty water tank is located under the fresh water tank. This is where the dirty water that the vacuum cleaner scrapes off the cleaning roller ends up. The name “Always Clean Mop” is self-explanatory. After all, the roller should move across the floor without leaving any dirt residue.

You can recognize the roller when you turn the smart household helper upside down. With a width of 290 mm, it can keep up with the size of conventional vacuum cleaners. Incidentally, the SwitchBot S10 (Review | € 1,039.99 *) offers a very similar concept. However, the roller on this one is significantly narrower. The suction unit with fully rubberized main brush and two side brushes are also located on the underside.

Eufy S1 test: Chic all-in-one station

As with the Eufy S1 Pro, I am also overwhelmed by the appearance of the S1 cleaning station. The futuristic monolithic shape of the household helper also makes a really great impression in the living room. It looks like something out of a science fiction movie. Although the station looks like a twin of the S1 Pro version, a closer look reveals that it is missing one or two features. The most noticeable is certainly the missing display and the lack of a control unit.

You will also have to do without the Eco-Clean ozone disinfection, including a nice bubbling effect. Apart from that, however, everything remains the same. In addition to a 2.5 liter dust bag, the station also has a fresh water and dirty water tank. You can also install a cartridge with cleaning agent in the upper section. This allows the station to automatically add a little detergent to the fresh water tank. The parking space for the robot hoover is located in the lower area.

Here it is thoroughly cleaned after each cleaning session. After it has been thoroughly rinsed with water, it is dried with hot air at 55°C. This prevents the formation of bacteria and prevents unpleasant odors. Both the robot hoover and the all-in-one station not only impress with their stylish appearance, but also with their high quality of workmanship. Once again, Anker does not let itself down.

Eufy S1 test: Navigation and obstacle detection

Anker equips the Eufy S1 with dToF LIDAR. This navigation technology is primarily based on laser distance measurement, which should help the smart household helper to find its way around – even in complete darkness. In practice, this results in pleasingly fast mapping and accurate navigation through rooms.

The Eufy first travels around the interior and then the edges of rooms. The movements along skirting boards and in corners are particularly impressive. The Eufy S1 uses an RGB camera to detect obstacles. The camera is supported by an LED lamp to ensure that it always keeps an overview even in dark areas under couches, sideboards and the like. However, the proven “3D Matrix Eye Technology” of the S1 Pro is not used here.

In practice, this is particularly noticeable with smaller objects such as cables, socks or LEGO bricks. These are often overlooked by the S1. However, this may also be due to the fact that the Eufy S1 is still quite new to me. After all, the smart household helper is supposed to learn over time. This is made possible by an AI-based system called AI.SEE. Anker claims that the robot vacuum should be able to distinguish between more than 100 objects.

The AI algorithm is likely to become even better in the future through its own learning and software updates. At the time of testing, however, I have to say that the S1 Pro is better at avoiding obstacles in the way. If you are looking for great obstacle detection, we can only recommend taking a look at the Samsung BESPOKE Jet Combo AI (Review | € 999.00 *) or the somewhat less well-known Narwal Freo Z Ultra (Review | € 949.00 *).

Eufy S1 test: Eufy app

Once again, Anker can only be praised for its app operation. Anyone who has ever set up and/or operated a robot vacuum via app will feel right at home here. As part of the setup process, the smart household helper is first transferred to your home network. You then start the vacuum cleaner’s maiden voyage via the app. The focus here is on mapping your home.

After successful mapping, you can edit the map directly. This allows you to adjust more than just the floor plan. You can also define invisible walls or no-go zones here. However, the map itself is a little more detailed with well-known competitors such as a Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat (Review | € 847.99 *) or a Roborock Qrevo Master (Review | € 899.99 *).

Apart from this, the most common cleaning settings can be made via the clearly laid out app. You can adjust the cleaning and mopping performance in stages. You can also specify whether the vacuum cleaner should only vacuum, only mop or do both. In addition to operating it via the app, you can also control the smart household helper with your voice. This is made possible by compatibility with Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.

Eufy S1 test: suction power

Let’s move on to the supreme discipline – cleaning performance. As a vacuum and mopping robot, the Eufy S1 can not only remove dust and other dry dirt from your floors. It also offers wet cleaning. Let’s start with the suction performance. At 8000 Pascal, the S1 offers exactly the same suction power as the Pro model. Of course, in the year 2025, it is debatable whether this is still up to date.

After all, even significantly cheaper models now offer more performance. The best example is a Dreame L10s Ultra Gen 2 (Review | € 527.90 *), which can boast 10000 Pascal. After the extensive practical test, however, I can reassure you. The Eufy S1 leaves a really great impression when vacuuming. Dust, oatmeal and grains of rice didn’t stand a chance, especially on hard floors.

This even applies to corner cleaning, which is challenging for many appliances. Here, the vacuum cleaner only left a few crumbs behind, which is perfectly fine. But not everything was great when vacuuming. Pet owners in particular should bear in mind that the smart household helper doesn’t cope too well with long hair. Unfortunately, I found that my dog’s long hair tended to get tangled up in the main brush.

Eufy S1 test: mopping performance

The performance of the mopping roller is of course particularly exciting. After all, this is quite unique in the field of vacuum and mopping robots. The big advantage over competitor models with mop pads or mop cloths is the constant cleanliness of the roller. As soon as dirt has been mopped up and sticks to the roller, it is scraped off and then ends up in liquid form in the dirty water tank. The roller, on the other hand, receives fresh water from the fresh water tank in the robot hoover itself.

The big advantage is that the Eufy S1 does not have to return to the All-in-One station during cleaning to have its cleaning roller cleaned. It only does this after the cleaning tour has been completed. I was pleasantly surprised by the mopping results. The only thing that really bothered me was the wiping quality in the edges and corners. Other top models have the edge here. The best example is the Dreame L20 Ultra (Review | € 699.46 *), which can extend its mops without further ado.

Apart from that, however, the mopping performance is really good. This is not only due to the fact that the roller moves quickly at 170 rpm, but is also pressed onto the floor with 1 kg. The Eufy S1 can also raise its roller by 12 mm so that carpets are not accidentally moistened when mopping. This may be enough for short-pile carpets. However, those with long-pile carpets should not rely on this.

Conclusion

The Eufy S1 presents itself as a slimmed-down, yet convincing alternative to the S1 Pro. With its compact design, modern navigation technologies and an impressive cleaning roller, it offers many advantages. Particularly noteworthy is the innovative roller cleaning during the cleaning process. Despite its reduced features, the Eufy S1 impresses with its excellent workmanship, good suction power and great mopping results.

However, there are some drawbacks. Obstacle detection is somewhat less precise without the “3D Matrix Eye”, and the lack of Eco-Clean ozone disinfection and a display on the station could be a drawback for some buyers. Some competitor models are also ahead in terms of mopping performance around the edges. Overall, however, the Eufy S1 is a cheaper option for users who don’t need all the premium features of the Pro model but still value high-quality cleaning results and a modern design.

PRO

  • High build quality and modern look
  • Good suction power
  • Great mopping performance
  • Fair price-performance ratio

CONTRA

  • No 3D Matrix Eye
  • Wipe function weakens in peripheral areas
