EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: Robo with a classic look

In terms of color selection, the EZVIZ RS20 Pro is quite one-sided. The smart household helper is only available in white. However, this is not a problem, as the mixture of a matt white surface on the side and glossy white suits the robot vacuum quite well. Only the glossy top is quite susceptible to scratches.

EZVIZ goes with the flow when it comes to the circular shape and follows the design of other models. On the top is a LiDAR turret with a stylish aluminum look. Above it is an illuminated start/pause button. The company logo is emblazoned in the middle of the device. A maintenance flap provides access to the inside of the smart household helper.

This is where the dust container is located, among other things. The camera unit and sensor strip are located at the front of the robot. This is used for obstacle detection. Further sensors are located on the left and right, which are used to measure the distance to walls. Ventilation slots, an extraction shaft and the charging contacts are located at the rear.

On the underside, you will not only be pleased with the elegant plastic, which is somewhat reminiscent of a starry sky. There are also two side brushes, which are primarily used for cleaning edges and corners. The main brush sits in the middle, with its combination of solid rubber, bristles and steel combs to effectively tackle hair.

The two mop pads are located directly underneath. EZVIZ has also opted for an innovative solution for these. The vacuum mop cannot lift its mops. Instead, like the Dreame L20 Ultra (review), it can simply place its mop pads in the base station. As soon as the smart household helper wants to start mopping, it simply collects the mop pads again.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: Station in Roborock design

The EZVIZ RS20 Pro comes with an all-in-one station that is not exactly small, measuring 52 x 45 x 46 cm. However, it shares this with almost every Robo that has such a feature-rich base station. If you don’t have enough space available, you should perhaps take a look at the Yeedi Cube (review).

The general design of the RS20 Pro station reminds me of the Roborock S series. In particular, the three-part bin system is very similar to a Roborock S8 Pro Ultra (review). Since EZVIZ, like Roborock, places the dust container next to and not under the two water tanks, the station looks more like a cube and is not quite as high as many competitor models.

The cleaning solution included in the scope of delivery can be used directly under the water tanks. With its matt white housing, the station perfectly matches the robot hoover itself. The EZVIZ logo is emblazoned on the front. In the upper area, on the other hand, there is a small control unit that can be used to operate the smart household helper in a rudimentary way.

This is where you start and stop it or return it to the base. Thanks to touch operation, the whole thing looks very elegant. The garage is located in the lower area, where the robot hoover can be placed by driving over the angled ramp. Unfortunately, the washing tray cannot be removed here, which is certainly due to the ability of the removable mop pads.

We will find out what features the all-in-one station has to offer in detail in the practical test later on. However, upon first sight and touch, it becomes clear that the base as well as the robot hoover itself make a classy impression thanks to their stylish appearance and high build quality. The RS20 Pro can therefore be placed visibly in the living room without hesitation.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: Navigation and mapping

When it comes to navigation, the EZVIZ RS20 Pro relies on the LiDAR system, which is now standard for almost all robot vacuums. With its help, the smart household helper creates a map of its surroundings and navigates skillfully through the home. Even in complete darkness.

After all, the laser technology inside the small tower does not need any lighting to work reliably. In practice, the LiDAR system proves to be fast and reliable. For example, the mapping process was completed very quickly during the robot’s maiden voyage.

The final result in the form of a floor plan of the apartment is also impressive, but the result cannot keep up with the accuracy of the competition from Dreame or Roborock. In terms of route, the EZVIZ also relies on a familiar strategy. After the vacuum cleaner has first scanned the edges of a room, it then moves along the interior in parallel lines.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: obstacle detection

I was particularly excited about the RS20 Pro’s obstacle detection. After all, this is the Achilles heel of many models in the industry. EZVIZ relies on a high-resolution camera, which is supported by a sensor strip and an LED spotlight. In practice, however, there was unfortunately no positive surprise despite the good technical features.

Although the smart household helper reliably avoided larger obstacles, it almost always collided with objects that were smaller than the Robo housing. Thanks to the spring-loaded bumper at the front, there is no damage to the vacuum cleaner or furniture, but you should still watch out for toys or cables lying around. After all, these could end up in the dust container. If you can’t live with such errors, you should take a look at the Narwal Freo Z Ultra (review), which scores points with its outstanding obstacle detection.

But the camera on the front is not only used for obstacle detection. EZVIZ also underlines its experience in the field of security technology and enables the user to use the RS20 Pro as a mobile surveillance camera without further ado. The camera shines with a really high resolution, which conjures up great images on the smartphone.

Stair falls are prevented by suitable sensors on the underside

In combination with the ability to drive the Robo like a remote-controlled car, any room can be checked at will. This is interesting for pet owners who are on vacation and want to keep an eye on their furry friends. If you don’t fancy manual control, you can also let the RS20 Pro patrol. In this case, the household helper will patrol your premises on its own.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: EZVIZ app

The RS20 Pro app is not only used to set up the robot hoover. It is also a must for all those who want more than just rudimentary control of the device and want to make individual settings. Apart from the app, the robot can only be controlled using the aforementioned buttons on the robot hoover itself or the control panel on the station.

The app scores with a good overview, but you shouldn’t expect the modern look of its Dreame or Roborock counterparts. There were also a few small quirks here and there, but these can easily be overlooked. Finally, there are numerous setting options with which you can adapt the smart household helper’s mode of operation to your own wishes.

This not only allows you to set a cleaning schedule. You can also make settings in the map created by the robot. For example, you can set up no-go zones or invisible walls. You can also adjust the intensity of the suction and mopping power. And integration with the Alexa and Google Assistant voice assistants is also possible.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: suction power

With 7,200 Pascal, the EZVIZ RS20 Pro is not a powerhouse. However, it is perfectly adequate for hard floors of all kinds. On my tiled, vinyl and laminate floors, the Robo at least cut a really good figure. Even stubborn dirt such as cat litter was no problem for it.

The two side brushes ensure that it also vacuums neatly along skirting boards and in corners. I noticed the exciting design of the side brushes. This is because they stop rotating when the vacuum cleaner is on the carpet. This means that no hair or longer lint can get tangled up here.

On carpeted floors, however, it is noticeable that the RS20 Pro lacks a little power. This at least applies to long-fiber carpeting. The vacuum cleaner also made a good impression on my short-fiber carpets. At least once it had moved over the carpet. When driving onto the carpet, the smart household helper likes to fold over the edge of the carpet, which is a bit annoying.

When I took a look at the main brush afterwards, I was pleasantly surprised by it. It was surprisingly clean and showed no signs of tangled hair or anything similar. However, this may also be due to the effective suction function, which we will discuss in more detail later.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: Mopping performance

As befits a modern robot vacuum cleaner, the RS20 Pro naturally also comes with a suitable mopping function. It does not rely on a classic mopping surface, but has the now established rotating circular mopping pads. During the mopping process, the mops not only rotate. They also exert a pressure of 10 N on the floor, which should also make it possible to remove stubborn stains.

And this is definitely noticeable in use. The Robo leaves a great wipe pattern that is streak-free and dries pleasingly quickly. I also really like the way it handles carpets. As already mentioned, the EZVIZ cannot lift its mop pads. As soon as it detects a carpet, it simply returns to the base station to park its mop pads there. It then vacuums the carpet without the mopping pads.

This has the great advantage that long-pile carpets do not become damp. However, not using the lifting function also has a disadvantage. If you have a lot of carpeting in your home, you have to be prepared for the Robo to be overwhelmed. A practical example shows why: If there is a carpet between two sections of a room with hard flooring that goes from one wall to the other, the RS20 Pro complains that it cannot reach the hard floor.

To solve the problem, you would have to remove the carpet completely or at least position it in such a way that there is a niche for the Robo to pass through at the sides. It would be better if it could simply lift the mops for such exceptional moments. An L20 Ultra can do both, which is why the problem doesn’t even arise. For me, this didn’t even develop into a problem, as I hardly have any carpet at home. However, carpet fans should keep it in mind.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: How the station works

The base of the EZVIZ RS20 Pro is a genuine all-in-one station that offers various features. Firstly, there is an automatic dust emptying function. Here, the dirt collected in the small 350 ml dust container is sucked up by the station and ends up in the 5 liter dust bag.

A special feature before vacuuming: the main brush is set in rotation, which loosens any tangled hair. The station also moistens the two mops with water during the cleaning process. The appliance uses hot water at 60°C, which is noticeable when wiping up stubborn stains. The automatic addition of detergent also helps in the fight against stubborn stains. A cool feature that we’ve only seen in flagship models.

The fresh water tank needs to be refilled regularly

After cleaning, the two circular cloths are rinsed again with hot water and then dried with hot air. This prevents the formation of bacteria and prevents unpleasant odors from developing. The dirty water is then extracted and ends up in the corresponding tank.

EZVIZ RS20 Pro test: Battery

The RS20 Pro may not be an endurance runner when it comes to battery life, but it should be more than enough for most homes. On the lowest setting, the Robo lasts just under 220 minutes. In standard mode, it lasts 110 minutes with simultaneous mopping and vacuuming. Should the battery run out during the cleaning process, this is not a problem. The smart household helper simply returns to its charging station and resumes cleaning after recharging.

Conclusion

Overall, the EZVIZ RS20 Pro leaves a mixed impression in the test. The feature-rich all-in-one station, the well thought-out design and the good suction power on hard floors are positive highlights. The rotating mop pads and the pressure of 10 N also ensure an effective mopping function that removes even stubborn dirt. The base station with its extensive functions really impressed me. Automatic dust emptying, hot water cleaning and air drying, the ability to park the mop pads and the automatic addition of cleaning agent are very helpful in practice.

Navigation and mapping using the LiDAR system also works reliably and quickly, even in dark rooms. Obstacle detection is only satisfactory overall, as objects that are lower than the Robo are simply overlooked. An interesting extra is the option of using the RS20 Pro as a surveillance camera, which can be particularly practical for pet owners. However, the RS20 Pro also has some weaknesses. Carpets in particular pose a major challenge, as it cannot lift its mop pads and reaches its performance limits on long-pile carpets.

It also likes to fold over the edge of the carpet when moving over it, which can sometimes be annoying. In terms of app control, EZVIZ scores again with a good overview and many setting options. In summary, the EZVIZ RS20 Pro offers a solid performance for users with predominantly hard floors and few carpets. The well-equipped station and practical mopping function make it an attractive helper, but it falls short of more powerful models such as the Dreame L20 Ultra in certain areas. If you want to save considerably and want similarly good results, you should also take a look at the Dreame L10s Pro Ultra Heat (review).
