Govee has made a name for itself – smart lighting, RGB, control via app, Alexa and co. With the Tree Floor Lamp, Govee is launching a floor lamp on the market that is designed to score points with three separately controllable spots. In addition, the fully adjustable spots, 16 million colors and over 64 color scenes are advertised as highly flexible.

In the box of the Govee Tree Floor Lamp we find the lamp in its individual parts, a power supply unit including switch and instructions. The packaging is visually appealing and it is also positive that the spots are already pre-assembled and there are no other unnecessary bells and whistles – this reduces waste to a minimum.
It only takes a few simple steps to assemble the lamp, which is almost 1.60 meters tall. The three rods, which form the base of the lamp, are screwed together and the power cable is fed through to the bottom.
These are then screwed to the base and the cable is led out of the stand – now all you have to do is connect the cable to the power supply and the lamp is ready for use. There are a total of four different print heads on the lamp – one on each of the spots and one on the power cable.
The lamp can be intuitively switched on using the button on the cable. The three heads on the spots can be adjusted. In “real” life, however, you don’t really use any of them later on; controlling them via the app is much more convenient.
Let’s take a closer look at the lamp – there’s really nothing to complain about in terms of workmanship. The rods interlock seamlessly, even from a very short distance the transitions are no longer noticeable. The joints on the spots have a high-quality feel and can be adjusted as required; nothing wobbles or slips. When finally assembled, the lamp is stable on the floor and looks great.

To exploit the full potential of the lamp, let’s take a look at the integration into the app. After downloading the “Govee Home” app (available for iOS and Android), you are guided through the integration quite simply.
First you are asked to create an account, then the smartphone finds the lamp directly via Bluetooth. You then add it to your profile and allow the lamp to access your Wi-Fi (you can skip this, but this limits connectivity). As with setting up the lamp, this is done quickly and without any further problems. In some places, the translation is a little slow, but this didn’t cause any problems.
We can then take a closer look at the lamp’s lighting options. The easiest way is of course to select the color for the spots. Whether all three are the same or different, both are possible and easy to implement.
The scenes and automated modes are a matter of taste. Depicting a “sunrise” with three lamps, for example, is rather difficult and the association is not immediately there. In everyday testing, it was more relaxed to create your own effect, e.g. a slow color gradient.
Integration with other control options, such as Amazon’s Alexa, is also quick and easy. Select the desired system in the settings and you will be guided directly through the integration.
Overall, however, it can be said that the objectively most important point – the color representation and brightness of the lamps – is very positive. The colors are vivid and, unlike other lamps, a clean white can be displayed. The controls are intuitive and you can quickly find your way around the app.
Conclusion
The result is simple – you get what you see. In a positive sense. Of course, you have to like the design, the size of the floor lamp has to meet your requirements and you have to want to control it using a proper app – because then this floor lamp fulfills its purpose exactly.
One point of criticism – as with most lamps of this type, the LEDs cannot be replaced. With a 24-month guarantee, you are covered for a while, but what happens afterwards if an LED gives up the ghost is unclear. At around €140, the price is also no bargain – but compared to the competition, you get a well-functioning app and rich colors.
In summary – you see is what you get. The lamp works, and it works well. No defects, but a little more expensive than the cheaper products if you are looking for comparable lamps. So you pay a little extra for a well-functioning ecosystem that you can expand with various other Govee products.
