Govee Uplighter Floor Lamp – ceiling washlight, sidelight and floor lamp in the test

Govee is known for smart lighting – lots of RGB, beautiful controls and its own ecosystem with the Govee Home app. We recently tested the Govee Tree Floor Lamp and found it to be good – so today we’ve brought you a new product. The Govee Uplighter Floor Lamp is a little more unusual: with ceiling lighting that promises a “wave-like” effect, only one of the three lamps is described. There is also a side LED circle and a reading lamp that shines straight downwards. We have also tested this lamp for you.

Structure, design and workmanship

  • Solid packaging, scope of delivery limited to the essentials
  • Impressive workmanship, unusual design
  • Quick assembly, quick start

As we are used to from Govee, our gaze falls on a robust cardboard box made of high-quality material. This is printed with product images and descriptions – so far so unusual. Everything in the package is also securely stowed away and padded with foam. In addition to the lamp, only a description or instructions are included – waste is reduced, but we are not surprised with a gimmick either.

Unlike other Govee lamps, the Uplighter Floor Lamp even has the cable already pulled through the rods. All we have to do is screw them together and to the base and then connect the power supply unit and the actual lamp to the cable. The lamp is then ready for use.

If we take a look at the assembled lamp, it has a high-quality appearance throughout. The rough material of the lamp body feels good and the aluminum shows that you don’t have a plastic bomber in your living room. The lamp head can be freely swiveled or rotated thanks to the ball joint, so you can adjust it to suit your needs.

There are also two buttons on the body – on/off and a mode button that switches between the reading lamp and its color temperature and the uplight. These have a pleasant pressure point and are practical if you don’t use Alexa or similar – so you don’t have to pull your phone out of your pocket to control them. However, it is noticeable that the lamp’s rod tends to swing slightly when touched. It doesn’t seem unstable at all, but a slight wobble and resonance can be felt every time the button is pressed.

Overall, it is not noticeable that the lamp is made up of several parts. The color is well chosen to make the transitions almost invisible. The actual lamp itself would look a little more upmarket if the shade were made of glass, but for reasons of weight and stability we can understand and endorse the use of plastic here.

Govee Home – setup and app

  • Quick setup
  • Good own app
  • Connection to Alexa & Co also child’s play

As usual, integration into the Govee ecosystem is child’s play – the “Govee Home” app is available for Android and iOS and is quickly installed. The lamp is then displayed directly. To set it up, simply press the on button when prompted and then enter the Wi-Fi password to connect.

You can then scroll through the various scenes and modes to view the different lighting modes. Of course, the names are a bit exaggerated, how is a lamp supposed to represent a “Father’s Day”? Nevertheless, it’s fun to look at the various options here or to create your own scene using the DIY function.

Uplighter, reading lamp and side light – the lamps of the Govee Uplighter Floor Lamp

The variety of lighting options is the key feature of the lamp, so let’s take a closer look at this too. There are three individual “zones” of the lamp: the floodlight, the reading lamp and an LED ring that shines more to the side. Two zones can always be activated at the same time.

Side light

The LED ring doesn’t really light up the room. But that’s not what it’s supposed to do, that’s what the other two lights are for. The side light provides a light, atmospheric light and makes the lamp itself look more modern and beautiful.

Reading lamp

The large LED under the lampshade is best described as a reading light. It can be adjusted from very cold white to warm white and is dimmable. Quite potent for illuminating a smaller area.

Ceiling washlight

The highlight of the lamp. The ceiling light with wave effect, the identity of the lamp. With at least two different colors, the spotlight shines against the ceiling (and possibly the back wall) and thus shows a wave-like pattern on the ceiling that brings a lot of dynamism through slight movement.

The versatility of the Govee uplighter floor lamp is definitely a big plus. The colors are rich and the LED technology is impressive. Unfortunately, it is not explained why only two zones can be switched on at the same time, but this is no great loss. In everyday life, it was usually either a ceiling floodlight or a reading lamp, which is enough for most purposes.

Conclusion

Overall, the Govee Uplighter floor lamp brings a lot of atmosphere into the room. It is not a light that is only there to illuminate the room, but really sets the mood. Possibly more of a “relaxation light”. The reading lamp can illuminate areas of the room more neutrally, giving you some flexibility here.

On the negative side, we have the same point as with most Govee products: unfortunately, the LEDs are not replaceable. Also, around 190€ (currently: € 189.99 * ) is a proud price, but here we really get a versatile, exceptional product.

All in all, a clear recommendation!

PRO

  • Convincing processing
  • Versatile options thanks to three zones
  • Great wave effect
