We took a closer look at the GRID 11 (iPhone 11) and GRID 12 (iPhone 12) in our test.

What’s hanging on the wall in your living room, gaming room or office? Movie posters and billboards? Works of art by famous painters? How about something completely different? That’s what awaits you at the manufacturer GridStudio, which transforms disused technology into art.
Iconic hardware that not only makes technology enthusiasts revel in nostalgia. From the legendary (and indestructible) Nokia 3310 to the DualShock controller from the first PlayStation to GameBoys and iPhones. The manufacturer’s selection is huge. You are guaranteed to find a highlight here.
We took a closer look at the GRID 11 and GRID 12, which the iPhone 11 and iPhone 12 from Apple. Around two years ago, we already tested the GridStudio GRID Game Boy Pocket.
The artworks from GridStudio arrive safely packed in a package with plenty of bubble wrap, so that nothing can break during the long journey. The size of the artwork varies depending on the product, with GRID 11 and GRID 12 each measuring 11.7 x 16.5 inches.
The GRID Frame Studio models present the technology highlights disassembled into their individual parts in a black frame. All components are provided with additional text, while further descriptions provide information about the respective product.
However, shipping takes quite a long time: on average, it takes around two weeks for a parcel to reach Germany. There is also a certain customs risk: it is quite possible that customs will intercept parcels from GridStudio and you will have to pay additional import fees afterwards.
A look at the details of GridStudio GRID 11 and 12
In the case of the GRID 12 (iPhone 12), for example, the texts provide information about the new A14 chip compared to the iPhone 11 or the new Super Retina XDR OLED display, which was used for the first time in this smartphone. There are also short quotes – in this case from Steve Jobs – which make the frames a real eye-catcher.
All frames are assembled by hand by GridStudio. The arrangement of the various elements is pleasantly clear and well thought out. According to the manufacturer, genuine original components of the installed hardware are also used here, which is why each GRID frame is unique.
The hardware has also been cleaned by the manufacturer, but there may still be residues of dust and rust. The frames can also be easily opened at the back to remove any dust and dirt inclusions.
The opening via the hooks is relatively difficult and hardly possible without scratching the back. The scope of delivery also includes hooks with which the GridStudio Frames can be easily hung on the wall.
Apart from that, however, I think the build quality is quite good considering the price. However, the frames don’t look very high quality and scratch quickly. However, as everything can be taken apart, you can simply replace the frame if necessary.
GridStudio GRID 11 and 12 test: Conclusion
The GRID frames from GridStudio are a real highlight for technology fans who grew up with products such as the GameBoy or iPhone. Considering the relatively low price, you get really chic and unique works of art here – whether for yourself or as a gift for friends and acquaintances.
The attention to detail of the handmade frames is undoubtedly recognizable. It would just be nice if they had opted for a more robust frame. The delivery time is also quite long at around two weeks, but that’s complaining on a high level.
