As a security camera that essentially never needs to be charged manually, the ieGeek S7 AOV delivered impressive performance in our test. Especially in terms of value for money, the camera is primarily aimed at beginners who don’t have overly high expectations. But is that really true, or can its functions and features also win over more demanding users?
ieGeek S7 AOV Package Contents: What’s Included?
While the contents of the package aren’t surprising, nothing extra was missing either. In addition to the actual security camera, the package includes a charging cable (USB-C to USB-A), a solar panel with a connecting cable, and a wall mount for the panel and the camera—complete with anchors and screws, of course.
The package is rounded out by an extremely compact quick-start guide that explains the most important features and provides brief setup instructions. However, it’s really hard to go wrong during installation.

Build Quality and Battery Life of the ieGeek S7 AOV in Our Test
Despite its comparatively low purchase price, there’s nothing but praise for the build quality of this solar-powered security camera. The outer shell is made of sturdy polycarbonate that protects against sun, rain, and temperature fluctuations.
It also comes with the appropriate protection certification: The IP65 certification confirms that this electronic device is completely dustproof and also protected against water jets from all directions. In plain language, this means that even heavy rain or the occasional Saharan dust poses no problem.
The ports for the charging cable and the microSD card slot are also a plus, as both are thoughtfully protected by an additional rubber cover.
Battery Life and Solar Panel
The internal battery has a capacity of 9,000 mAh, which—without additional charging and depending on how the camera is used (live stream or photo mode)—is enough for a runtime ranging from a few days to several weeks.
The solar panel is particularly convenient here, as it allows for continuous use of the security camera depending on weather conditions, without ever needing an additional charge. However, care should be taken to ensure that the solar panel is mounted and aligned at the correct angle to operate as efficiently as possible.
Installation & Setup: What Should You Keep in Mind?
Anyone who knows how to use a drill and has worked with anchors and screws before will have no trouble setting up the ieGeek S7 AOV. Mounting the security camera and the solar panel is therefore incredibly simple.
Simply pre-drill the holes for the wall and ceiling mounts, attach the camera mount, and then click the camera into place. The process is similar for the solar panel mount, except that the panel is screwed on rather than clicked into place.
Finally, the panel must be connected to the camera using the cable included in the package. It’s nice that the cable is three meters long—long enough to set up the solar panel even further away.
After that, you must install the free ieGeek Cam app. This app is required for all functions and offers a wide range of settings. It’s definitely worth taking ten minutes to select the settings that best suit your needs.
ieGeek S7 AOV Review: An Overview of All Features
The ieGeek S7 AOV offers plenty of customization options in our test. It starts with choosing the right camera position: Using the app, you can not only rotate it 360° but also tilt it up or down. This makes it possible to find the perfect position in no time. There are also a variety of other features.
Alarm Management and Intelligent Detection
Here, you can adjust the detection sensitivity; the highest setting triggers alarms more frequently and thus has a higher potential for false alarms. In addition, thanks to AI detection, you can specify which types of events should trigger the security camera. Users can select people, pets, and vehicles as options.
This works quite well in practical testing; however, the detection range—which extends up to 30 meters—should not be too heavily obstructed. In my case, my neighbor’s cat in the garden wasn’t detected until it had approached the camera to within about five meters—before that, branches apparently made detection too difficult.
One handy feature is the ability to select time zones. For example, if you don’t want to receive alert notifications after 10 p.m., you can activate this feature. You can set custom times here, which offers a personalized and practical solution.
Image and Sound Settings
Here, too, it’s worth taking a closer look at the settings. Image quality, night vision options, and encoding can all be adjusted. So if you want to conserve the internal battery, you can simply reduce the quality. The bitrate for transmission can also be selected in eight steps ranging from 256 to 1,892 bits per second. It’s a shame that the resolution cannot be reduced and is always set to 2K.
As for the audio capabilities, the features are limited but sufficient. The microphone can be turned off if needed, and the recording quality is satisfactory. The built-in speaker has a somewhat tinny sound, but it’s not significantly worse than those found on modern smartphones.
Lighting
Another practical feature is the ieGeeek S7 AOV’s lighting: The light turns on automatically as soon as motion is detected. In addition to the automatic lighting duration, users can choose between 30 and 60 seconds or between 5 and 10 minutes.
The lighting itself is localized and doesn’t have a particularly long range, so it can’t really replace a typical outdoor light. However, it’s sufficient for illuminating the front door and finding the keyhole in an emergency. It also serves its purpose as a deterrent against unauthorized entry.
Storage Options and Recording
Thanks to 24/7 recording, the security camera ensures continuous recording. Typically, an image is captured every three seconds until motion is detected. At that point, live recording begins, which is then saved.
Users can either use an internal microSD card (not included) or rely on cloud storage. The latter, however, requires a subscription that costs €26.99, €53.99, or €78.99 per year, depending on the plan selected. It’s also possible to select continuous live recording, though this requires correspondingly more battery power.
ieGeek S7 AOV in a Hands-On Test
Our hands-on test shows that the weatherproof camera is easy to set up and can reliably detect people and vehicles. This is handy when it’s mounted in the front yard or by the front door, for example. It’s a shame, however, that you can’t set up a “dead zone”—that is, an area where no movement should be detected. The best security cameras already offer this feature.

If the sidewalk or street is included in the footage, this can quickly lead to many unnecessary alerts and push notifications. Here, it’s important to use the app to adjust the camera’s angle to avoid this.
The recording quality is also impressive at night, although lighting conditions play a major role here. If the camera is pointed at a dark garden, the recording will be correspondingly dark.
The two-way communication worked really well in our ieGeek S7 AOV hands-on test. Anyone who wants to quickly let the package delivery person know while on the go that the package can be left at the front door should be thoroughly satisfied with its performance.
ieGeek S7 AOV Review: Our Conclusion
The best way to sum up our test is this: The ieGeek S7 AOV does what it’s supposed to do—and does it well. The value for money is consistently impressive, even if there are a few compromises. It lacks 4K resolution, doesn’t allow you to scale down the resolution, and when it comes to motion tracking, more expensive models like the Arlo Ultra 3 security camera offer significantly better performance.
Nevertheless, if you’re looking for an affordable security camera with a solar panel and perhaps want to start with an entry-level model, you can confidently invest in this one. A highly recommended camera for outdoor use!
