Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro test: Four MPPTs, AI and a fair price?

Jackery is known as an outdoor brand – power stations for camping, solar generators for the patio, robust technology for on the go. With the SolarVault 3 Pro, the manufacturer is taking a different approach: a serious home storage system with four independent MPPT trackers, AI energy management and Tibber integration, which clearly outperforms the company’s own HomePower series in terms of functionality. Our test of the Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro shows what the system can really do in everyday use and whether the specifications deliver what they promise.

Design and workmanship

The SolarVault 3 Pro comes in a flat, silver-grey housing with a black front panel. There are pronounced cooling fins on the back, which Jackery marks with the words “Caution Hot”. This is not only meant as a precaution: in charging mode, the memory became significantly warm to hot in this area. When setting up the device, you should therefore allow sufficient air to reach the rear instead of placing it tightly in a closed compartment.

The design is particularly practical for later expansion: the system is designed for a stacked structure and therefore does not require an unnecessarily large footprint. Our test setup also included the matching base foot, on which the storage unit stands slightly raised and stable.

There is a bright LCD display on the front, which continuously displays the most important system values directly on the device. These include the charge status, input power, output power and the current operating status. This seems obvious at first, but is by no means standard in this class. Many competitor devices transfer such information almost completely to the app. With the SolarVault 3 Pro, on the other hand, a quick glance at the front is enough to see the current status.

Thanks to IP65 certification, the device is protected against dust and water jets and is therefore also suitable for garages, utility rooms, boiler rooms and covered balconies. The operating temperature range of -20 to 55 degrees Celsius is generously dimensioned – the system runs reliably even on cold winter days in an unheated garage.

Connections and installation

The connections of the SolarVault 3 Pro are located on both sides of the housing. There are four separate PV inputs for up to four module strings on the left-hand side. Each input works with its own MPPT tracker and processes up to 1,000 watts of solar power. This is particularly interesting if modules are aligned differently or if individual areas are temporarily in the shade.

The right-hand side is even more versatile. At the top is a protected Schuko socket, which Jackery uses as an AC input/output. This can be used to input or output up to 1,200 watts; up to 2,300 watts are possible in bypass mode. Below this is the on-grid connection for the connection to the home network, an Ethernet port for wired communication, the connection for the WLAN antenna, a vent and the earthing terminal.

The lateral arrangement is generally easy to reach, but requires space when cables are connected. In addition, the rear of the unit becomes very hot during charging. The storage unit should therefore not be pushed tightly into a piece of furniture or placed against a wall without an air gap.

At around 22 kilograms, the SolarVault 3 Pro is clearly a floor-standing device. Once positioned, it stays there. Jackery offers optional wall brackets that provide additional stability and at the same time free up some floor space. If you want to mount the cylinder on the wall in the cellar, this is a good solution.

Setting up and commissioning the Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro in the test

The basic wiring is done quickly: set up the SolarVault 3 Pro, connect it to the home grid via the on-grid connection and, if required, connect solar modules to the four PV inputs. Jackery prints the most important steps directly on the top of the device. Control, operating modes and consumption optimization are then set up in the Jackery app.

If you want to connect solar modules directly, connect them via the four MPPT inputs on the left-hand side. The decisive advantage over cheaper systems with just one tracker is that each of the four MPPTs works completely independently. What this means in practice is quickly explained. In a system with a single MPPT, a shaded panel or a weaker module group pulls down the total output of the entire system – all panels then work at the level of the weakest link. This does not happen with the SolarVault 3 Pro. Each input regulates its own operating point independently. Anyone who operates panels on an east-west façade or has a balcony with mixed shading will benefit from this.

When delivered, the feed-in power is limited to 800 watts. This corresponds to the limit for plug-in solar systems in Germany. Although the SolarVault 3 Pro technically supports up to 1,200 watts of bidirectional AC power, different requirements apply for operation above the 800 watt limit than for the usual balcony power plant setup.

App and operating modes

Important first: The SolarVault 3 series requires its own new Jackery app – not the older Jackery Home app, which is intended for earlier products and simply does not work with the SolarVault 3. If you use the wrong one, you will be surprised why the connection does not work.

The right app, on the other hand, impresses straight away. At its heart is the real-time visualization on the home screen: You can immediately see how much energy is coming from the solar panels, how much of it is flowing into the battery and what the current charge status is. There are also statistics on a daily, weekly, monthly and annual basis with production values, self-consumption rate and CO2 savings – there is more than enough material here for anyone who likes to do the math.

AC coupling is also interesting for existing PV systems. The SolarVault 3 Pro can be integrated into an existing energy system and supports various smart meters for consumption and surplus control, including Jackery Smart Meter and compatible models from Shelly, Everhome and HomeWizard.

AI, Tibber and what the system can really do

The feature that most distinguishes the SolarVault 3 Pro from a simple battery buffer is the AI-supported energy management in conjunction with dynamic electricity tariffs. If you have a contract with a provider such as Tibber or Rabot Charge – i.e. you pay hourly changing prices according to the market price – you get a system that actively uses these price fluctuations to your advantage without you having to intervene yourself.

How it works: The AI retrieves the price forecasts for the coming day every day via API and compares them with weather data and the household’s historical consumption profile. A concrete example makes this tangible. The system recognizes that tomorrow will be a cloudy day and that the battery will not be fully charged by the sun. At the same time, Tibber reports that the electricity exchange price is at a low tonight between two and four o’clock – wind power is pushing the supply into the grid. As a result, the SolarVault 3 Pro automatically charges itself from the grid during this window. The next evening, when prices rise as usual, it releases the stored energy into the house and avoids the expensive grid supply. The system makes this decision independently, without intervention.

Over 860 energy suppliers are supported – including Tibber, Nordpool and Rabot Charge. Jackery states that self-consumption can be increased to up to 92 percent and up to around 1,766 euros can be saved annually. How realistic these figures are in individual cases depends on the location, system size and consumption profile. However, the basic potential is real. If you want to go even further, the SolarVault 3 Pro is Home Assistant-compatible, which enables custom automation and seamless smart home integration.

Battery and safety aspects

With a lithium battery in a residential environment, safety is not an optional bonus. Jackery relies on several independent layers of protection. The basis is the LiFePO4 cell chemistry. Compared to classic lithium-ion cells, this chemistry is significantly more thermally stable, less flammable and much less susceptible to uncontrolled chain reactions. LFP is the recommended standard for stationary home storage – and Jackery complies with it.

In addition, Jackery mentions continuous temperature monitoring at the PV and grid connections as well as an integrated aerosol fire extinguishing module that can react automatically in the event of abnormal internal temperatures. Such a protective function cannot be practically tested in normal product tests; however, it is a relevant equipment aspect for a stationary storage unit in a residential environment.

In the event of a power failure, the device switches to battery operation in less than 20 milliseconds. This is fast enough for even sensitive consumers such as desktop computers, NAS systems or network devices to continue working without interruption. IP65 protection against dust and water jets and the wide operating temperature range of -20 to 55 degrees Celsius round off the concept.

How does the Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro perform in practice?

What the Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro shows above all in the test is that it is a system that you simply forget after a short familiarization period – in a positive sense. The AI mode optimizes charging and discharging so unobtrusively and reliably that after a few days you hardly need to intervene manually. The app is stable, the visualization is precise and the display on the device always provides the quick overview that you actually need in everyday life.

The 1,200 watt output power is sufficient for the typical German household in everyday life. Base load, lighting, entertainment electronics, fridge, router, laptop – no problem. If you run a single larger consumer, i.e. a low-consumption washing machine or dishwasher, you may even get by. Things get tight when several power-hungry large appliances need to run at the same time. Oven, washing machine and dishwasher in combination exceed 1,200 watts – at such moments, the appliance switches to bypass and draws the difference from the mains without interrupting operation. If you are permanently in this situation, you should opt for the SolarVault 3 Pro Max with 2,500 watts.

If the 2.52 kWh capacity is not enough, the storage can be expanded at any time with the optional BP2500 expansion battery. Up to five expansion modules can be docked directly, bringing the total capacity up to 15.12 kWh. The BP2500 costs around 499 euros – just under 200 euros per kWh, which is significantly cheaper than comparable expansion batteries from Anker or EcoFlow.

What else the market has to offer

The storage market in 2026 is more crowded than ever before, and anyone who doesn’t want to buy blindly should at least know what the most important alternatives can do. The most directly comparable to the SolarVault 3 Pro is the Anker SOLIX Solarbank 3 E2700 Pro, which we have also tested in detail. At 2.688 kWh, it has a slightly higher base capacity, also works with four MPPTs and offers the same bidirectional 1,200 watt feed-in with AI and Tibber connection. The difference is particularly evident in the expansion batteries: Jackery is around 200 euros per kWh, Anker is noticeably higher. So if you plan to expand the capacity at some point from the outset, the SolarVault 3 Pro is cheaper.

If you need more output power, the Zendure SolarFlow 2400 Pro is the right choice. The system delivers up to 2,400 watts to the grid – twice as much as the SolarVault 3 Pro – and therefore remains powerful even when several large consumers are running at the same time. However, the four MPPT inputs, at 750 watts each, are weaker than those of Jackery, and the PV input is correspondingly lower. A truly unique selling point of Zendure is the local control via MQTT without cloud compulsion – if you want to deeply integrate Home Assistant and don’t want to be dependent on an external server, you’re better off there. On the other hand, if you want to retrofit an existing rooftop PV system without buying a new inverter, you should take a look at the Zendure SolarFlow 2400 AC – it works purely via AC coupling and fits almost any existing system.

If you want to get started at a lower price or simply need less capacity, the Hoymiles HiBattery AC is a solid and uncomplicated option. The device costs significantly less, is easier to set up and does what it should – but without the MPPT depth, AI control and expansion concept that characterize the SolarVault 3 Pro.

Bottom line: Who is the Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro suitable for?

If you are looking for a home storage system that really works without a tradesman and without prior knowledge, the SolarVault 3 Pro is the right choice. Installation is completed in just a few minutes, the system then works largely independently, and the app offers enough depth for anyone who wants more than just an overview. Four independent MPPT trackers, a serious safety concept including an aerosol extinguishing system and a ten-year warranty also make the device a solid investment in the long term.

It is easy to rate the Jackery SolarVault 3 Pro after the test: It is a well-rounded, well thought-out product that justifies its price – especially when you factor in the inexpensive expandability via BP2500 and the software features with AI energy management and Tibber connection. For households that occasionally operate several large consumers at the same time, the Pro Max is the more sensible choice. For everyone else, the Pro is a very good starting point in the world of smart home storage.
