Jimmy BX8 in the test: Four technologies against dust and mites?

Every allergy sufferer is probably familiar with this – despite thorough cleaning, dust mites survive in mattresses and continue to cause discomfort. Normal vacuum cleaners only reach the surface, while the tiny parasites hide deep inside. With the BX8, Jimmy is launching a dust mite vacuum cleaner on the market which, in addition to UV light and hot air, also has a negative ion generator for air purification. Our Jimmy BX8 test shows whether the 160-euro appliance with 65°C hot air and intelligent LED display is really convincing.

Design and workmanship: Elegant with minor weaknesses

Jimmy delivers the BX8 ready to use with the main unit, replacement filter, cleaning tool and multilingual instructions – there’s no more assembly required. The elegant design with anthracite-colored housing and eye-catching pink accents looks much classier than many competing products in the 160-euro price range and shows that the manufacturer also attaches great importance to an appealing look for cheaper models.

The Jimmy BX8 is supplied with appliance parts, instructions, replacement filter and packaging.
The Jimmy BX8 comes with a vacuum cleaner, dust container, filter, cleaning tools and instructions – all neatly packaged and pre-assembled

The workmanship is largely impressive with clean gaps and a high-quality overall impression. The plastic housing sits neatly together and the individual components are precisely manufactured. Only the three control buttons (power, speed selection and dust bin release) feel a little flimsy and could have been more robust for a 160-euro appliance. However, this point of criticism does not significantly tarnish the otherwise high-quality overall picture.

At 1.9 kg, the BX8 is pleasantly light and one of the handiest dust mite vacuums in its class. The low weight is particularly noticeable during longer cleaning sessions, but the device still rests firmly on the mattress and develops sufficient contact pressure. The 5-meter mains cable offers sufficient freedom of movement for large double beds without having to constantly change the socket.

Operation and setup in the Jimmy BX8 test: Sophisticated and user-friendly

Operation remains exemplary simple: on/off button, mode button for speed selection and a button to release the dust container. That’s all you need – Jimmy deliberately dispenses with superfluous functions. The LED screen directly on the nozzle is particularly practical, clearly displaying the modes, functions and degree of soiling. This positioning is clever, as you are always looking at the nozzle when vacuuming anyway.

The modular system impresses with its well thought-out user-friendliness: the dust container, HEPA filter and brush roller can be removed without tools and rinsed under the tap. The transparent dust container with a capacity of 0.5 liters is released at the touch of a button and can be emptied separately – much more hygienic than appliances that have to be emptied completely. The closures work reliably: During operation, everything holds bombproof, and all parts can be easily detached for cleaning.

Main features: UV light, hot air, ultrasound and negative ions in a four-pack

The BX8 relies on a proven combination of four technologies for mite control. The UV-C light works directly on the surface and is designed to kill mites and bacteria, while the 65°C hot air penetrates deeper into the mattress and also creates hostile conditions there. Ultrasound is also used, which uses high-frequency vibrations to attack the mites’ nerves and inhibit their growth. This three-pronged strategy makes perfect sense, as mites are sensitive to UV radiation, do not survive temperatures above 60°C and react to ultrasound.

The 65°C hot air is reached in just 5 seconds – significantly faster than many competitor models. Practical: The heating function runs as standard, but can also be switched off separately if required by pressing the mode button for three seconds. This is particularly useful for sensitive materials that cannot withstand high temperatures. In terms of safety, the BX8 is well thought out: the UV light switches off automatically as soon as the device is lifted or tilted too much – microswitches ensure that no harmful UV radiation is emitted uncontrollably through the room.

The actual main feature, however, is the integrated negative ion generator. This continuously releases negative ions during operation, which are intended to bind dust particles, pollen and other pollutants in the room air. The principle is familiar from expensive air purifiers – here it comes as a bonus feature directly in the dust mite vacuum cleaner.

The feature runs automatically and does not need to be activated separately. Ion generation is completely silent and consumes hardly any additional energy. Whether the ion technology really has measurable effects is difficult to judge in the household test – but as an extra feature, it is an interesting bonus that shows that Jimmy is also thinking about modern technologies in the mid-price range.

LED display with intelligent dust sensor: cool visual feedback

The LED display on the nozzle is a significant leap forward compared to the simple LED bars on cheaper Jimmy models. While other dust mite vacuums only have simple red-blue LED bars, the BX8 has a real display with a “Dust Index” and values between 0 and 99. This display is much more informative and gives the user precise feedback on the cleaning progress.

The sensor reacts impressively sensitively to differences in soiling that cannot be seen with the naked eye. In our test, the system reliably detected both heavily soiled and already cleaned areas. The bar below the display starts out red and full in dirty areas, then slowly empties during cleaning and turns white when the area is clean.

If you move over the mattress too hastily, you will immediately see from the full red bar that you need to work more slowly. This live feedback prevents areas from being overlooked as well as unnecessary reworking of areas that are already clean.

Two working modes for different applications

The BX8 starts in “Strong” mode as standard and offers two clearly different working modes:

  • Soft mode works with reduced suction power and is suitable for delicate surfaces or light soiling.
  • Strong mode uses the full suction power of 15,000 Pa for thorough deep cleaning and fully activates all available technologies.

Mode selection is easy using the mode button on the handle. The LED display clearly shows which mode is active – practical as you are looking at the nozzle when vacuuming anyway. Strong mode is recommended for most applications, as it removed noticeably more material from the mattress in our test. UV light, ultrasound and negative ion generator work automatically in both modes.

Cleaning performance in the Jimmy BX8 test: Impressive results

Our Jimmy BX8 test quickly shows why normal vacuum cleaners reach their limits when it comes to mattresses. Even after thorough vacuuming with a good cordless vacuum cleaner, a considerable amount of fine, whitish-grey material still collects in the Jimmy’s dust container – impressive and somewhat frightening at the same time.

The 240 mm wide nozzle with patented brush roller is responsible for this. The rubber strips powerfully knock deep-seated particles from the inside of the mattress – a clearly noticeable movement that works its way through the entire depth of the mattress.

In practice, the difference between the modes is clear: Strong mode removes noticeably more material from the mattress than Soft mode and should be the first choice for normal mattresses. A double bed mattress needs about 10-15 minutes for a complete treatment – a reasonable amount of time for the results achieved. The result can be seen not only in the well-filled dust container, but also in the noticeably fresher mattress.

The effectiveness of the BX8 is also confirmed by certification from Allergy UK – a recognized British organization that only recommends products for allergy sufferers after independent tests.

Noise development and maintenance: typical but manageable

With 600 watts of motor power, the BX8 is not exactly quiet. The measured 78 decibels are roughly equivalent to a normal vacuum cleaner – perfectly acceptable for occasional mattress vacuuming, but definitely not for sensitive neighbors in the early morning. Positive: The ergonomics are good despite the noise level. The BX8 sits comfortably in the hand and is easy to handle, even during longer cleaning sessions.

In our Jimmy BX8 test, maintenance proved to be well thought-out and user-friendly. The dust container pops out at the touch of a button and can be emptied separately – you don’t have to lug the whole appliance to the garbage can.

The dust container and MIF filter can be easily rinsed under the tap and the brush roller can be easily pulled out to remove hair. According to the manufacturer, the MIF filter lasts for around 30-50 operating hours. Jimmy has the foresight to include a replacement filter in the packaging, and the mini cleaning tool supplied is particularly clever: one side has a brush for cleaning, the other a small hair clipper for tangled hair on the roller.

Price-performance: Solid middle ground with modern features

At 160 euros, the BX8 is in the mid-price segment of dust mite vacuums and offers an LED display, negative ion generator and intelligent dust sensor – features that are usually missing on cheaper models under 100 euros. The combination of UV light, 65°C hot air, knocking function and precise dust sensor makes the decisive difference compared to normal vacuum cleaners.

The BX8 is suitable for buyers who want modern features and reliable technology without having to reach for the most expensive model. The low weight of 1.9 kg is another plus point. Allergy sufferers and households with dust mite problems get a solid helper for regular mattress cleaning. If you need maximum suction power, you should go for the more powerful BX7 Pro Max – but the BX8 is perfectly adequate for most people.

Jimmy BX8 test summary: Successful all-rounder with clever details
