JIMMY now stands for more than just reliable vacuum cleaners and other cleaning aids. The manufacturer has also established itself in the field of water treatment in international kitchens and offices. With its new Matrix series, JIMMY is now establishing a practical modular design that not only allows the filtered water to be heated up at lightning speed. On top of this, additional elements can be installed, further expanding the range of functions. We had the pleasure of putting the JIMMY Matrix M9 Pro through its paces together with the “Cold Sprinkling Water Maker” JIMMY S9.

Plug & Play design: No need for plumbing work

The very first impression shows that the JIMMY Matrix M9 Pro is clearly in the premium segment. The design is modern, minimalist and uncluttered – typical of modern kitchen appliances that want to be deliberately presented rather than hidden away. With dimensions of around 278 × 310 × 366 mm and a weight of around 7.5 kg, the appliance looks solid, but not overly bulky. A major highlight is the plug-and-play design. No plumber is required — simply place the unit where you want to use it, plug it into a power outlet, and fill the 5-liter water tank.

JIMMY also relies on a subtle color scheme. The plastic housing comes in a dark gray and is therefore very unobtrusive. One highlight is the well-integrated LED touch display on the front. This is used to make the most important settings. Overall, the workmanship leaves a really high-quality impression. The materials appear robust and even moving parts such as the removable 5-liter water tank are stable. Particularly practical: The tank for the water to be prepared is located on the side and not on the back – this makes refilling much easier in everyday life.

A small but well thought-out detail is the integrated lighting, which not only ensures that the glass is placed correctly at night. The light also uses different colors to indicate whether the water is hot or cold. Overall, the M9 Pro combines design and functionality very successfully – it blends in visually with modern kitchens and at the same time makes a technical statement.

Operation and user experience of the JIMMY M9 Pro

It is operated via an LED touch display, which is intuitive and responds directly to inputs. Users can set both the temperature and the amount of water – with great flexibility. There are seven temperature settings to choose from, ranging from room temperature to 98 °C. This means that the appliance covers practically all areas of application: from water for baby milk (45 °C) to hot tea or coffee. One highlight is the speed of the whole thing.

Jimmy Matrix M9 Pro

On the one hand, the JIMMY I9 is an ice cube maker that can quickly turn the freshly filtered water into ice cubes. Alternatively, there is the S9 sparkling water module, which can be used to add carbon dioxide to plain still water. A particularly practical feature is the display of the water quality (TDS value) in real time.

Here, the user can see the quality before and after filtration. The system also provides information about the condition of the filters and reminds you to replace them. Cleaning and maintenance are also straightforward. The filters have a relatively long service life (up to 24 months for the RO membrane), which reduces maintenance costs.

Filtration and technology

The heart of the JIMMY Matrix M9 Pro is undoubtedly its sophisticated 7-stage filter system, which goes far beyond classic water filter technology. While simple table filters usually only work with activated carbon, the M9 Pro relies on a combination of pre-filtration, reverse osmosis and post-treatment – a structure that is more familiar from professional water treatment systems. We already know how well this works from other water filter systems from the manufacturer, such as the JIMMY R9(test | € 469.99 *) and the JIMMY R9 Pro(test | € 499.99 *).

Multi-stage filter system in detail

Jimmy Matrix M9 Pro

At its core, the system consists of three physical filter units, which together represent the seven filtration stages:

1. M2S composite filter (pre-filtration)

This filter combines microfiber and activated carbon technology. In this first stage, coarse and taste-impairing components are removed:

  • Rust particles and sediments
  • suspended particles
  • Chlorine as well as odors and dyes

The aim of this stage is to prepare the water mechanically and chemically before it enters the much finer main filtration stage.

2. RO-2.0S reverse osmosis membrane (main filtration)

The central and most important component is the reverse osmosis membrane. It works with an extremely fine filter structure of around 0.0001 micrometers, which enables it to filter out even the smallest impurities.
Among other things, it removes

  • Heavy metals (e.g. lead)
  • PFAS (e.g. PFOA/PFOS)
  • Bacteria and viruses
  • Limescale and dissolved salts
  • Chlorine residues and organic pollutants

According to the manufacturer, the overall removal rate is up to 99.99% of pollutants, which raises the M9 Pro to a level that is otherwise more familiar from permanently installed RO systems. This stage is decisive for the actual water purity – it not only removes visible substances, but also dissolved and health-relevant substances that cannot be removed by boiling.

3 Q2S activated carbon mineralization filter (post-treatment)

A typical disadvantage of reverse osmosis is that it removes almost all minerals from the water. This is precisely where the third filter stage comes in:

  • Returning important minerals
  • Improving the taste
  • Neutralization of possible residual odours

The result is water that is not only clean, but also tasty – comparable to mineral water from the supermarket.

UV-C sterilization for additional safety

In addition to mechanical filtration, the M9 Pro has an integrated UV-C sterilization unit. This works independently of the filters and ensures that the already purified water in the tank is not contaminated with germs again. This is an important point, as this is precisely the risk with many water filters: stagnant water can become enriched with bacteria again. Thanks to the continuous UV treatment, the water remains hygienically stable – a feature that is otherwise more familiar from professional drinking water systems.

TDS monitoring: transparency in real time

Another technical detail is the integrated TDS display (Total Dissolved Solids). It shows in real time how many dissolved substances are in the water – both in the raw water and in the filtered water.
This has two advantages:

  1. Users can immediately see the effect of filtration
  2. Changes in water quality or filter performance are immediately visible

In everyday life in particular, this ensures a much higher level of trust in the technology, as cleaning does not remain “invisible” but becomes measurable.

Efficiency and water consumption

Water consumption is often a critical issue with reverse osmosis systems. The M9 Pro works with a ratio of around 3:1 (pure water to waste water). This means that one liter of waste water is produced for every three liters of filtered water – a very efficient value for RO systems. Nevertheless, this is still an aspect that should be taken into account in comparison to simple filters.

Filter service life and maintenance

The system is also suitable for everyday use in terms of maintenance:

  • Pre-filter (M2S) and mineral filter (Q2S): Replacement after approx. 12 months
  • RO membrane: Replacement after approx. 24 months

The comparatively long service life not only reduces costs, but also maintenance work. The replacement itself requires no tools and is completed in just a few steps. Simply unscrew the old filter cartridges and replace them with new ones.

What makes filtration special?

Compared to classic table filters or simple kettles, the M9 Pro offers a significantly higher level of water treatment:

  • Deep filtration instead of surface cleaning (thanks to RO technology)
  • Hygiene assurance through UV-C
  • Taste optimization through remineralization
  • Transparency through TDS monitoring

The system is therefore clearly aimed at users who not only want “better tasting” drinking water, but actually highly pure and controlled drinking water.

The modular concept of the JIMMY M9 Pro

Probably the most important aspect of the M9 Pro is the modular system. This clearly distinguishes it from its siblings, the JIMMY R9 and R9 Pro. Unlike classic water filters, it is part of a larger platform that can be individually expanded. The M9 Pro is at the center as a “hub”. Additional modules can be connected via the AquaLink system.

There are currently two different expansion modules to choose from. On the one hand, there is the JIMMY I9. The JIMMY Matrix I9 Ice Maker & Crusher Module expands the Matrix M9 Pro system with a combined ice-making and cooling function. Its key features include two ice modes for clear ice cubes and soft crushed ice, ice production using RO-filtered water for better taste and improved hygiene, as well as automatic touch-free ice dispensing.

In addition, the module provides chilled water, a removable ice crusher container for easy cleaning, and seamless integration via the AquaLink system. On the other hand, there is the JIMMY S9 module. The JIMMY Matrix S9 Cold Sparkling Water Maker Module expands the Matrix M9 Pro system with a chilled sparkling water function. Its key features include freshly carbonated water cooled to 10–15°C for finer and longer-lasting bubbles, adjustable carbonation intensity for personalized sparkling drinks, and compatibility with standard threaded CO₂ cylinders capable of producing up to 60 liters of sparkling water.

Jimmy Matrix M9 Pro

In addition, the module includes two reusable BPA-free bottles, supports healthy DIY beverages with customizable flavors, and integrates seamlessly into the AquaLink modular ecosystem for a compact all-in-one hydration solution. The idea behind it: Instead of setting up several appliances (water filter, water bubbler, ice cube machine) separately, everything is bundled into one system. This saves space and ensures a uniform operating concept. JIMMY provided us with the S9 for our test. This allowed us to test one of the modular extensions straight away.

The S9 module in detail

The additional S9 module is particularly interesting in the test. This is a sparkling water maker that only works in combination with the M9 Pro. So if you only want to make tap water fizzy, you can also use a different device. Two included BPA-free Tritan bottles make it easy to carry chilled sparkling drinks anywhere – from home to office or outdoor adventures.

Jimmy Matrix M9 Pro

The S9 uses the already filtered water from the M9 Pro and offers two functions:

  • Cooling the water to around 10-15 °C
  • Carbonation for sparkling water

The module has its own 0.75-liter cooling tank from which chilled water can be drawn at any time.
Operation is extremely simple:

  1. Fill the bottle with chilled water
  2. Press the carbonation lever
  3. Set the desired sparkling water strength by pressing several times

A major advantage is the flexible dosage of carbonation. Users can decide for themselves whether they prefer light sparkling water or highly carbonated drinks. The system works with standard CO₂ cylinders. One cylinder is enough for around 60 liters of sparkling water, which corresponds to around 120 bottles.

The advantages of the S9 module are obvious. Not only does it save you the hassle of lugging around crates of water. On top of that, you can get freshly tapped sparkling water whenever you want. The carbon dioxide content can be individually adjusted to suit your preferences.

Conclusion

The JIMMY Matrix M9 Pro is much more than a classic water filter. It is a well thought-out, modular platform that offers comprehensive water treatment and can be used flexibly in pretty much any home or office kitchen. The interaction with the S9 module in particular shows how much potential there is in this concept: instead of individual devices, a central beverage station is created that can be flexibly adapted to the user’s needs. Without question, the system is naturally quite expensive. However, you should bear in mind that, unlike cheaper alternatives, there are hardly any follow-up costs. However, if you don’t need extensive water filtration and are satisfied with simple filtration, you will certainly find cheaper alternatives. However, if you value convenience, design and versatility – and in particular want to take advantage of the modular expandability – the M9 Pro is an excellently thought-out system.
