Logitech Folio Touch keyboard case with trackpad in test

Since the release of iPadOS 13.4 in March 2020, Apple iPads support trackpad input. With the official Apple Magic Keyboard, an iPad Pro can almost be turned into a full-fledged laptop. With a price of over 300 Euros, the accessory is unfortunately anything but cheap, as is typical for Apple. We therefore took a look at the Logitech Folio Touch, a recently released alternative that is only half as expensive, but still offers the same features.

Specifications

weight 646 g
Size 256 x 192 x 21 mm
Compatibility iPad Pro 11″ (1st and 2nd generation)
Scope of delivery Logitech Folio Keyboard & user manual
Price € 99.95 *

In the instruction manual, Logitech only mentions the 2nd generation of iPad Pro 11, but the Logitech Folio Touch can also be used with the 1st generation of iPad Pro 11. As with the Magic Keyboard, the compatibility information only refers to the camera cutouts on the back.

Material and workmanship

Logitech relies on a combination of plastic, silicone, and fabric for the Folio Touch. The iPad Pro is held by a flexible case made of silicone. This holds the tablet sufficiently strong even during transport, but is not too tight when removed. The rest of the Folio Touch’s structure is made of a high-quality-looking plastic. The keyboard case is also covered with fabric. This makes the Logitech Folio Touch very easy to grip. Fingerprints and other smudges are also much less noticeable than with other plastic keyboard covers.

Unfortunately, like the Logitech SLIM FOLIO PRO, the folding mechanism of the Logitech Folio Touch is still made of plastic. In our Logitech SLIM FOLIO PRO, the first cracks appeared there after about 1.5 years. Whether this weak point still exists in the Logitech Folio Touch can’t be said after our practical test, though.

Connectivity

The Logitech Folio Touch keyboard case connects to the iPad Pro via the Smart connector. The Smart connector also provides power to the Logitech Folio Touch. Thus, the keyboard case does not have an integrated battery. In our test, the connection was very stable even when running. We couldn’t determine an influence on the battery life by powering the keyboard via the iPad.

Additional features

Although the Folio Touch is half the price of Apple’s official alternative, Logitech’s product offers a number of additional features. In everyday use, the function keys in particular, which can be used to adjust the volume and screen brightness, for example, offer significant added value.

Mobility

For many users, the Logitech Folio Touch keyboard case is intended to turn the iPad Pro into a “real” laptop on the go. Mobility is therefore one of the most important test criteria. Thanks to the flexible tilt angle, Logitech’s Folio Touch can be used in almost all situations without any problems. Unfortunately, the surface area is relatively large. Working on a plane or train is therefore difficult.

Summary of the Logitech Folio Touch

The Logitech Folio Touch is a high-quality alternative to the Apple Magic Keyboard, which is twice as expensive. In our test, the high quality and the numerous additional functions were particularly convincing. The only minor drawback is the mobility. We can therefore fully recommend the keyboard case to all owners of an iPad Pro 11-inch who do not want to work on the plane or train all the time.
