Lymow One Plus Review: A Garden Giant for Rough Terrain

Robotic lawn mowers are now a dime a dozen—ranging from small, corded entry-level models to smart models without a boundary wire. The Lymow One Plus is also cordless, but it stands out in many other ways. Instead of wheels, it uses rubber tracks; instead of small razor blades, it’s equipped with two genuine SK5 steel blades; and its weight of about 25 kg is unmatched in its category. We tested this unusual robotic lawn mower from China in everyday use and discovered both its strengths and its weaknesses.

Design and Build Quality

The package arrives with a total weight of about 47 kg—a first indication of what to expect. It’s recommended to have two people help lift the robotic lawn mower out of the box. The unit alone weighs about 25 kg and is rather rear-heavy, which makes it difficult to carry with one hand.

Anyone who needs to move the Lymow One Plus regularly—for example, to switch between different areas of the lawn—should keep this in mind. Although Lymow has included recessed side handles, the sheer weight remains a daily challenge. Visually, the device resembles a construction vehicle more than a classic robotic lawn mower. Wide rubber tracks, a distinctive camera tower with integrated lighting, and the front-mounted cutting deck define its appearance.

On the top are a small display alongside the control unit, as well as the obligatory red emergency stop button. The chassis is made of high-strength steel, and the mower deck’s suspension is made of A380 die-cast aluminum. The build quality gives a robust, high-quality impression—no corners were cut on materials here.

Setup and Configuration

The basic setup is surprisingly quick. Set up the charging station, position the RTK antenna with a clear view of the sky, turn on the device, open the app—that’s essentially it. Connecting the robotic mower to the Lymow app was hassle-free, and the Bluetooth pairing process was quick. Up to this point, the device has pleasantly surprised me.

What came next was less pleasant: a mandatory firmware update immediately after the initial pairing. The update couldn’t be skipped and took a considerable amount of time—so much so that, at times, I wasn’t sure if the device was even still responding. It took significantly longer than one would expect for this step for the update to complete and for the robot to be ready for use. Ultimately, switching from 2.4/5 GHz Wi-Fi to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only and carrying the robot into the living room solved the problem.

This left only a few meters between the router and the Lymow. Even during operation, the Wi-Fi connection proved to be a weak point. Connection drops occurred regularly, even at moderate distances from the charging station. The built-in 4G connection (SIM card included, first year free) can partially compensate for this weakness, but it is not a complete substitute for a stable Wi-Fi connection.

Navigation and Mapping

For positioning, the Lymow One Plus combines RTK satellite navigation with VSLAM—that is, visual simultaneous localization and mapping—using its two front cameras. This combination generally enables centimeter-accurate positioning—an approach also used by devices such as the Segway Navimow H206E or the Dreame A3 AWD Pro, though those models operate without an external antenna. According to the manufacturer, if the RTK signal is temporarily lost, the robot can continue operating autonomously over an area of up to 150 m² or for about ten minutes.

In testing, RTK-assisted positioning proved to be largely reliable outdoors. Under tree canopies or near buildings, however, there were moments when the robot noticeably hesitated or made course corrections. These navigation inaccuracies did not always result in a clean mowing pattern and were the most common cause of small gaps in the lawn pattern during testing. Occasionally, situations also arose in which the robot mowed the same area multiple times or unexpectedly abandoned a route.

It also failed to return to its base station during one mowing run and simply came to a stop on the lawn. For professional use on large, heterogeneous areas, the navigation system still has room for improvement. Up to 80 mowing zones can be defined in the app, and the total mapped area can be up to 60,000 m². This is a figure that covers even professional applications. The app itself is clearly structured and offers features such as scheduling, zone prioritization, and speed adjustment.

Obstacle Detection and Safety

This is where the Lymow One Plus made one of the strongest impressions of the entire test. The combination of an AI camera, five ultrasonic sensors, and two Hall sensors for edge detection reacts very reliably to obstacles of all kinds. Whether it was a garden chair, a flowerpot, or toys lying around—the robot stopped in time and avoided obstacles in nearly all test situations.

The ultrasonic sensors performed particularly well with low-lying objects, which are difficult for camera-based systems to detect. Another positive feature is that the Lymow One Plus can also be used at night: The two LEDs on the camera tower illuminate the area in front of the robot sufficiently for autonomous operation after sunset.

Mowing Performance

The LYCUT 2.0 mower deck, featuring two counter-rotating SK5 steel blades, leaves a very neat cut. The 40 cm cutting width, the blades spinning at up to 6,000 rpm, and the front-mounted cutting disc ensure that even dense or tall grass is cut cleanly. Anyone who has only been familiar with traditional robotic mowers featuring small razor blades—such as the ANTHBOT M9 or the ECOVACS GOAT O1200—will notice the difference in the mowing results.

The cutting height can be electrically adjusted between 30 and 100 mm—a wide range that covers both ornamental lawns and meadows. The motor’s peak power of 1,785 watts also allows for effortless mowing of dense and tall grass that simply overwhelms other robots.

One thing that stands out during mowing: the robot is loud. In normal mode, the noise level remains within expected limits, but in turbo mode, it reaches around 74 dB(A). This is roughly equivalent to the noise level of a conventional lawn mower—if you want to be considerate of your neighbors, you should limit turbo use to daytime hours and set your schedules accordingly. Incidentally, it does not mow along edges—a one- to two-centimeter strip along the edge of the lawn always remains uncut, which may require manual touch-ups depending on the garden layout.

Off-Road Capability and Drive System

The rubber tracks with their deep tread are the most striking feature of the Lymow One Plus—and at the same time one of its most impressive. On wet ground, sandy surfaces, or loose substrate, the device loses hardly any traction. On top of that, the manufacturer specifies a climbing ability of up to 45 degrees. Obstacles up to 7 cm high are also easily cleared.

Despite its heavy-duty tracks, the Lymow leaves no marks on the lawn. This is because the tracks rotate in opposite directions, distributing pressure evenly across the surface. The top speed of 1 m/s is unusually high for a robotic lawn mower. While this may seem impressive, a lower speed is recommended in practice. Although this takes a bit more time, the cut is noticeably more even.

Battery and Charging Station

The built-in 528 Wh LiFePO4 battery is one of the key advantages of the Lymow One Plus. LiFePO4 technology is considered significantly more durable and thermally stable than conventional lithium-ion cells. Lymow specifies 2,000 charge cycles at 80 percent remaining capacity—which, in practice, means many years of operation without battery degradation being a significant issue.

The 405-watt fast charger brings the battery up to full capacity in about 90 minutes. On a single battery charge, the robot can cover up to 2,300 m ². The robot docks reliably at its charging station even when approaching at a slight angle—the spring-loaded charging rails accommodate even minor misalignments.

Connectivity and App

With Bluetooth, Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz), and a built-in 4G/LTE module, the Lymow One Plus is well-connected. The SIM card included in the package is free to use for the first year. In practice, Wi-Fi proved to be problematic: connection drops in the app occurred too frequently to be dismissed as exceptions. The 4G connection was more stable, but it does require that the network be available at the site of operation.

The Lymow app is available for iOS and Android. The interface is intuitive, and basic functions such as scheduling, zone division, and cutting height adjustment are easily accessible. For users who want to delve deeper into the configuration, the app offers settings for driving speed, mowing patterns, and zone prioritization. Notifications work reliably. However, a stable connection is required for firmware updates—and as described above, this step can take a considerable amount of time.

Conclusion

The Lymow One Plus is undoubtedly an unusual choice among robotic lawn mowers and is by no means suitable for every garden. For flat, small gardens, there are cheaper, quieter, and easier-to-use alternatives. However, for those who want to maintain a large, hilly, or complexly structured area and value wireless navigation, this is a technically impressive device. The LYCUT 2.0 cutting deck, with its SK5 steel blades, delivers a clean cut, and the tracks provide stability on challenging terrain—similar to the all-wheel drive on the Dreame A3 AWD Pro or the MOVA LIDAX Ultra 1000 AWD, though with significantly more grip on truly uneven surfaces—and the LiFePO4 battery with fast-charging capability is one of the best in its class.

On the other hand, the Wi-Fi connection issues, the tedious mandatory firmware update during initial setup, and the occasional navigation glitches are real drawbacks that are particularly noticeable in the premium segment. Additionally, the operating noise level in turbo mode is clearly audible. In my view, the heavy weight is also a real problem. For many users, simply lifting this behemoth is likely to be a real challenge. For just under 2,500 euros, one should be able to expect a more polished software experience from a device in this price range—especially since competitors like the Anthbot Genie 800, in lower price brackets, offer apps that run significantly more smoothly in some cases. Those who appreciate the hardware quality and off-road capability—and can live with the fact that the software still has room for improvement—will find the Lymow One Plus to be an unusual and robust tool for the garden.
